good to see it running, it is a fairly quiet 6 for something that has been sitting around for awhile.

It all depends on how bad and how much rust. With your knowledge, your best placed to advise on whats required to remedy rust. Are we looking at replacement sills, pillars, floors etc???? Because $6k quickly escalates into $50k required to get it back to its structural baseline.

Its worth 6k. I've been looking at wagons for ages. There was a green xb in Sydney for 3.5k for ages but it wasn't complete and original 6cyl was swapped for a later one. Yours is more complete, runs and its an xa. And roof, mmm its straight 👌

I'm guessing, but most likely the thermostat is closed causing the lack of water flow. Probably open up when it gets to temperature.

Is it just me who can't believe there is anyone crazy enough in Australia to fork out $10k for a POS? They were no bloody good when new, deadly on a damp road where they would swap ends faster than a VW Beetle

Prices are high for these old Aussie cars and it's important to remember that the XA was a very short lived model, only being available for 18 months. Where there were 130,000 made, most fell victim to rust and their low 80's, 90's and early 2000's values. It would be interesting to know current numbers, but I doubt it would be huge. Basically most old Aussie cars were very agricultural, but if kept under cover, had the ability to last many many decades and are dead simple to repair, that's why we love them.
