JT, on the antique tractors with a generator, if the generator housing is the same diameter all the way back, it's 6V. If it necks down at the back, it's 12V. All generator tractors are positive ground.
@karlfischer1011
@karlfischer1011 Жыл бұрын
not all 12v , but many. 1960s tractors are more likely to be Neg Ground, even with a generator. We have a ford 5000, 12v negative ground is specified in the manual. I believe an IH 706 is also specified neg ground, the 56 series with a generator is neg ground (in preparation for the alternator on later production of that series). another 12 v indicator on a delco generator and starter is the delco tag's color: red is 12 v, black is 6v. 50-70 years of life could mean a 12 field coil replacement or frankenstein parts, however.

Excellent video JT :) glad got all parts in this old Canada made Cockshutt 40 tractor your 9 person I seen have in 12 volt Negative ground also 12 volt battery on , one home farm I grew up on had 6 volt positive ground my late Uncle Bill own plus late Dad with also did you have fuel tap on underneath tank facing to transmission and think you did but no sure! Also muffler be changed to new and make sound like gas motor Farmall too purring like cat Lol ! JT yes CHEERS to success and that tractor sounds like ready to work on farm to for hours! Also RPM on low is 450 and top High idle surprises is 1750 from factory but 2000 it make run for sure! Yes Zenith carbs on farm tractor or combines gas motors stay super and do stay clean it amazing for sure 👍 ! That tractor sure bring memories back from my childhood years in 1976 to 1994 lots farmers love those tractors and Cockshutt good brand to bad not in business no more also yes NAPA Auto parts store get part for electronics also Generator are Delco Remy type and so Starter drive but Starter Solilendo near dash is Ford brand if want know!

@@jtsbarnngrill6873 yes lots in pulling contest on sled weights to for sure and one my late grandfather Bill SR bought new 1950 in Brampton Ontario plant made it also in 1970 my Late Uncle Bill took 3 fairs near homestead farm and doing pulling weight contest also run belt drive fairwheel to till 1992! Yes these tractor with all four wheels with weights from factory ordered in pull and seen good do ! My late Uncle Roy in 1988 had his 1986 Massey Ferguson 235 Loader Desiel fuel motor 2 wheel drive stuck in farm wood and that 1950 Cockshutt 40 with Buta 230 Cubic Inches 6 cylinder motor plus been 6 volt positive ground pull chain tight also tugged out no problem in 4 gear and high RPM full throttle ! Was Mud flying to in air too and mess to on tractor after! But yes JT those tractor for 43 hp also 60 to 90 torque like 100 hp with 150 torque tractor in Desiel but Cockshutt Gas ! Yes should get on Google Search for 1950 Cockshutt COOP 40 Deluxe say on motor used plus specs on them because used Cockshutt used Dodge one plus Desiel motors to ! How my Grandfather Bill SR new about Buta Motor was his brother in Law plus nephew was in Army a Canadian made tank used motor in them Buta type and brother in law was mechanic by trade and nephew drive tank too back years ago! Plus first Cockshutt 35 Loader tractor gas had Buta Motor in too it was 1948 model same size everything on specs I heard and never saw tractor was gone before I born ! I just remembered 40 and pop up front wheels on move it around with my uncle teach me drive it on hill roads to Lol!

Also heard rumor years ago about 40 that Buta motor like was like driving a GM 292 6 cylinders or 300 6 cylinders Ford or Slant 6 of the 170 or 225 Dodge put out for hp and torque specs! I think rumor true because in my Auto Mechanics and Restoration work over 30 years as my job plus driving 3 motors in test on vechiles out after repairs to Lol!

Correct me if I'm wrong but aren't you supposed to have the points rub block on the high point of the distributor cam when setting the points? That how I was taught. You had it on the flat.

I think I have it on the high point. It runs….. so I must have

@@jtsbarnngrill6873 I know it runs but in the video, it's on the flat. Go back and look. I'm old, but not blind. LOL.

I watched that part, and you are mistaken. The the cleaner is on a flat spot, but points open on a black plastic piece at the direct right to the contacts. The wiper was indeed on the flat spot, but does not open the points. Look closer at the 6 o’clock point of the distributor shaft, you will see the black piece on top of a lobe holding them open

@@jtsbarnngrill6873 Ok, I give. You're right. I went back and watched it again and it was the wiper that I was seeing on the flat. My bad! First damned mistake this week. Oh well.......

Did cockshutt produce there own engines or did they use another brand. I know they have been gone for quite some time. You’ve got that one singing good. Now to make it look like sum thing.

In some cases they didn't. I have a 30 which am pretty sure has a Buda engine...and a Golden Arrow which has a Hercules engine.

My question is who do you use for a machine shop? Im in Michigan as well and not a whole lot of shops around here that work on farm stuff.

I’ve used midland machine, and city auto (car quest) in bay city. The auto value in Cadillac will work on tractor stuff too
