You should try the strings used on a bass ukulele. They seem to be made of rubber, and allow the tuning to be exactly the same as a full scale bass. I'd love to see the results you could get from them.

I actually liked the rattling on the kanthal wire . It's like a natural distortion. Maybe try to make it a feature rather than a flaw. The smaller chain had some cool sounds too. The higher notes and the sound of the chain hitting the fretboard sounded very interesting.

it's roughly analogous to how the jiwari bridges of sitars and tanburas work, the string exits across a gentle curve instead of a sharp point, and every time the string colides with the bridge it plays a tiny pinch harmonic. since each excited harmonic changes the way the string hits the bridge, the harmonics have an evolving phaser-like sound

Wonderful. You're very curious and innovative. A natural engineer, although likely also a real one, too--.

Hey, I've got a video idea for you. How does a piezo pickups location effect tone on solid body guitars? Here's a few location ideas: Behind the bridge on the body, Behind the saddle attached only to the strings, Under the saddle, Under or near the end of the fingerboard, Under the nut, Behind the nut attached only to the strings, End of the headstock. I'm curious how that changes the sound, as well as seeing if you can get a wide stereo tone from two piezos. I know you can get an almost double tracked sound from two magnetic pickups in stereo.

The heating coil wire sounds raw The steel cable was viable at E0 with some drummer coordination to make the notes a rhythm instrument

At one point, I was going to try and wind my own string. I had a wire from I think the dollar store and I put it into a jig that they use to make a bow string serving. I ended up moving so I never got around to it.

I like the way you think. You might try some pallet banding strap. You also might try bowing some of these strings.

So motograter used springs from a hardware store. I use one on a bass stick. Lowe’s and homedepot should have them for cheap

Ya, I bought one but it had too much tension stretching it. I need to find one with less resistance

@@SaidTooMuchProductions They used one without much stretching. It sat on an iron frame, which added to its resonance.

Have you tried to use items you'd find on a headless bass? I think that would help out a bit. You'd tune near the pickup, slot the string in at the top. BTW, you can try to contact Newtone guitar strings in England. I bought a custom set of 37" scale 200 gauge bass strings from them. I think they can go longer too. I got my strings within a month, considering they had a Covid Outbreak at their facility, I think that is a lot faster than Kalium. You can also try Octave4plus. I have several custom sets of strings from them. You can get any gauge or any length you want... Seriously. It takes about 2 months start to finish. I got a 280 set for a 7 string bass. I'm getting another 7 string set for a custom 37" scale, 7 string bass. Once I have those, I'll have 2 7 string basses with the same Conklin body, same pick ups, and same strings. Only differences will be the scale length 34" vs 37" and neck material.... Almost sounds like something you would do;-)

I wonder if it would be possible to nickel-plate something like a bass ukulele string to enable it to operate with electromagnetic pickups.

What if you wrap a steel cable? I have actually tried that one myself a few years ago and i got horrible sustain. My guess is that its due to the tension being distributed on so many individual wires that dampen each other. So perhaps getting a very thin cable (2mm or less) but wrapping it with another one will get a better result. If it works out well, using 2mm cable for both should still give you a ~235 gauge string and almost a 400 gauge string if you wrap it twice.

Oh wow, lots of good experiments here ^^ I'm not a big fan of the first one tho. I don't think tying 2 strings together can be a durable thing. And thanks for the video clip excerpts ;)
