Can you use a small compressor with air tools? Long ago I was told you can't use air-powered tools with a small air compressor. Let's see what happens when I try to use tools like big air impact guns with a small pancake air compressor.
What did you think? LET ME KNOW bit.ly/YTRandomFix

I was wondering if my small air compressor would supply enough air for a decent impact wrench and this video put my doubts to rest. Although my car wheels have four bolts each and dealing with 16 bolts two times a year wouldn't be too difficult, but now I put on summer set of wheels with spacers/adapters which have their own four bolts each, so screwing and unscrewing 32 bolts in total gets a little annoying.
@RANDOMFIX
@RANDOMFIX 2 жыл бұрын
Tomas thanks for sharing buddy, so you remove the spacers in the winter time? Sorry to silly question but I'm never lived in an area with 4 seasons. Thanks
@xumot
@xumot 2 жыл бұрын
@@RANDOMFIX It's ok :) Yeah, here in Europe, where I live, we have 4 seasons and in case of cars, some people drive on all-season tires, some use same rims, but change tires from summer to winter and vice versa and some, including me, have different summer and winter sets of wheels. In my case my winter set is steelys and they bolt right to the hub, but summer set with alloy rims originally wasn't made for my car and doesn't fit because of different bolt pattern: rim 4x100, car 4x108. That's why adapters are needed. But, and it's a big BUT, I must remove them because otherwise the car wouldn't pass DOT, MOT or whatever that vehicle inspection is called there in USA.
@RANDOMFIX
@RANDOMFIX 2 жыл бұрын
Cool, thank you for sharing, so you can fail the inspection because of wheel spacers? Here in the USA we only have a smog inspection (California) but other states like new York have a safety inspection as well. The smog inspection just is there to make sure no tamper with the vehicle and they are very strick as well because of emissions. I will hop in over to Europe once covid is over, in 2019 I toured 5 counties in the eu. I love the safety, fashion, and chill vibe of Europe.

Some people seem to think "not ideal" is the same as "doesn't work." Of course you can run an impact wrench on a small tank. You just might have to wait for the compressor every now and then. Just because it doesn't perform like a pit crew or a tire shop would want it to, doesn't mean it wouldn't make things a little easier for someone doing some diy stuff in their garage. Good demonstration.

Thanks , through complete ignorance I found this out recently using a small oil less compressor and a big air wrench. Not having been told it was impossible I just went ahead and did it, working out that short pulses worked best. I also have a needle de-scaler I'm going to try soon on some rusty chassis members. At my age (65) life is not a race, just getting the job done.

I personally found out that if you leave the control setting low (air pressure to tool) and let the compressor fill to shut off it works great I recently got the 1/2” husky impact from Home Depot and the 3/8 central pneumatic from harbor freight. Highly recommend using a 3/8” hose though I had a 1/4” hose not knowing prior what size hose to use and it couldn’t handle the pressure required for the tool.

Greg, thanks for summing up what I'm thinking. Even though I just came across the video which is a couple yrs old. I couldn't find any info in the store or manual that expresses what u & I come to the conclusion. This can work for the homeowner to use with an impact wrench to rotate tires. And of course it's not conducive for a semi-truck or the Indy 500 pit stop

Faster to crack them all with a breaker bar and finish with a ratchet. By the time my compressor is setup and ready I already have the wheels off. I’m a smaller dude with 14mm studs on my truck. Also not knocking the uploader but why did he pay over $100 for a harbor freight impact? I sense a lot of foolery.

Thanks for the video. I'm in the market for a small portable pancake compressor. But I was Leary about the "CENTRAL PNEUMATIC" having enough power to operate an impact gun. It's a lot cheaper (and quality ? ) and lighter than the other name brands (Porter Cable). So Yes, I can use it to rotate my tires, just have to "pulse the trigger" or just wait till it builds up pressure again. Again thanks for the informative video.

Fantastic. I just got through reading a bunch of articles telling me I HAD to have a 5 to 7 CFM compressor. If I wanted it for continuous work, or if I actually had to remove a bolt at 400 ft-lbs, then yes I agree the little compressor won't come close to cutting it. But since I don't need to run the tool to it's full power to get some small lug nuts off, and since I might only want to get the front two tyres off, I thought surely it must be possible. After all the tool doesn't know how big my compressor is, it's powered by the air already stored in the tank. I've read a larger hose diameter and fittings can make a big difference (I think you used a 1/4" curly line here?). I'm gonna try it since I already have a small compressor. Cheers very much appreciate your demo.

Thanks for this video. I have an 8 gallon 150 psi compressor I was wondering about. Most impacts are rated for 5.0 scfm @ 90psi my compressor is 4.1 scfm @ 90psi. When I looked yours up it's only rated for 0.6 scfm @ 90psi! So... I should be able to use mine for most thing I would think. No way I wanted to spend a bunch of money on a big a** compressor just for the occasional use I'd have for an impact. This video made me realize I shouldn't need to do that.

I have this same compressor and always thought it wouldn't work but I'm definitely buying a impact wrench now. Now that I think about it, a stuck bolt only needs a couple seconds of air and that's all I want an impact for. The tank says not to run while using it though on the label. Idk why.
@luchvk
@luchvk 3 жыл бұрын
That may be on the tank to deter overheating and damaging the compressor. That's something that you need to be careful of when running a lighter duty compressor more continuously. As a tip, if you get a bigger air hose (diameter, not length) and use high flow fittings you can get better initial performance out of the tool. It's not the same as a full high flow setup. However, the first moment you use the tool, more air should flow through it; making it more powerful when you first pull the trigger. You may not even need to change the quick connector on the tank and tank-side of the air hose. The air regulator is 1/4 inch anyway.

Great idea, the key is to using gun right as it’s peaking in pressure so it never turns off.

Legit big air compressor at work can easy supply lots of air for tools. Little home compressor doesn't have pumping cfm to keep up and tank is way small for decent supply before dropping pressure to much. But as you see it works fine in short burst. I also have the little Chicago and a full size one at work. Full size is bigger hamer so you use less air because it loosen stuck bolts faster. Just wait on the compressor to keep pressure with short bursts.

Thanks for debunking tool sellers. I clearly see a 3gal air compressor will operate some air tools. Stores claimed will not work. I hate to be deceived. You proved if you used your air tool lightly. you will not run out of air. To make the tool operate. Some tools will operate at 90 PSI. guessing long as the trigger is not held opened, the tool; should work fine. Again, great demonstration. I wonder if a ratchet or air hammer. A small one will work as well.. thanks.
