I am grateful to God that I accidentally found Ken's video channel some time ago, even in small videos, there is a lot of valuable information, these are grains of gold, let those who have ears hear. I believe that Ken is the only one who teaches rock singing technique academically. His students are simply incomparable, and he himself sings great))))))))))))))))))))))))) Thanks Ken

Ken's vocal course is a LIFE-CHANGER! I took many singing courses before I found KTVA and was always disappointed and felt like I had been robbed. I'm so glad I found the course that really works! KTVA! The free KZbin videos are indeed grains of gold, and the course itself is absolutely what every singer needs to become the singer they have always wished they could be!

In my college days, when I sang for a band I didn't know anything vocal warm ups, so the band always started with several Loverboy songs-which was my vocal warm up. Years later, when I took vocal lessons, scales was warm up. Tenors and sopranos in choir always had more of a warm up because of the wider range we had to cover.

The KTVA program continues to produce results for me and I am only on week 7. I noticed this past weekend when I went over a bunch of songs that I have more air at my disposal than before. I can do longer passages. Songs that were difficult last spring are now pretty ok. Also it sounds less shouty and there is less weight in the throat. I am beginning to understand how to negociate different registers and settings. Anyone who is on the fence - now is a good time to get the course. I have not seen anything like it. I speak a few languages but I have not found any other teacher or program that goes into the details like this. Not in English, Spanish, German, French. Certainly not in my native Swedish language.

Its funny, the timing of this video. I have been about 5 days back into re-training my voice from a 4 year complete layoff. 1st day: Just trash. No power, no feel for placement. 2nd day: I need vocal exercises. Lip bubbles, Nay, mum, gug, good, sirens, cuperto, etc. 3-4th day: Range coming back. bottom and top end expanded quick. Ability to place and hold notes came back. Today: tried recording some real song lines I used to do. Everything was off. So, I recorded the exercises. The exercises sounded like I thought they would sound except for the "Nay." They sounded like weak chord closure and too little support. Not having any of my old recordings on hand, the process has gone like, "Damn. Weak (thought that at least sounded moderately strong). That sucks. I heard worse. Not too bad. Aren't I supposed to hear vibrato fading there? I don't hear anything. Maybe I was never able to do that part good. Eh, that needs more support. Oh, wait, I need more pitch there just when I time that. Hey, that sounded about right."

Hey Ken, thank you so much for always putting out valuable knowledge. I have one question though: I've been learning singing for a year. A few months ago, I had no problem with singing simple legato and staccato scales. Then I stopped doing them, instead, I focused on singing songs and songs, without sounding pitchy, hitting the right notes. It did improve my breath to some extent (I don't run out of breath during the song anymore), I was able to apply some basic techniques (like how to avoid cracking from chest to head, vibrato, apply sustained notes: ofc they are not perfect, but I started to get a sense of it by feeling the sensation of my body when I was applying the techniques). Then, a few days ago, I tried to re-sing some of the old basic scales but kinda struggled to do so when another person is playing the scales (when I play and sing it myself, then I can get a hang of it). It's like my breath felt weak and strange doing it but I don't find singing songs as hard. Does it mean that I got worse? Or I lost my singing foundation? Thanks a lot, Ken.

@mynameischaku3 жыл бұрын
I personally think vowel modification is really only necessary at the range extremes. A more conversational vowel usage is pretty relatable and the amount of character that you can get from vowel diversity is greater if singers don't all lock into say an ahh vowel. If you were to take someone like Johnny Cash for example (or any huge number of character singers) they would sacrifice aesthetics and relate-ability if they were to focus on ping, brightness, or getting more nasality that's likely necessary to get those high notes. I don't think a singer has to sound like their a teacher and you might be selling yourself short if you think that's all you can teach. But both singer and teacher have to understand that certain vowel strategies might get a certain sound. As a middle ground, is you could probably teach the vowel strategy as an option for when approaching the limits of other vowel strategies. There's no real reason why Johnny Cash couldn't hold onto conversational vowels but be taught how to do a few high notes or screams as long as you were both on the same page, that if he were to exclusively use the technique you discuss it would change the character of his voice. If someone has a different vowel strategy from speech, culture, ethnicity, artistic reasons, etc. It's the limits of physiology at the range/volume limits. Certain vowels and vocal postures just won't work at certain ranges/volumes, but if it works in another context, it can still be on the table.

Singing is strange. You're supposed to open your mouth. Some sing from the back of their throat. B.J. Thomas " barely " opens his mouth. James Taylor and Springstein sometimes too. Many people sing with a closed mouth. I guess they just sing a lot and figure it out their own way or are natural born singers
