I lived in Las Vegas for 7 Years! From 2012 to 2019 and the high turnover rate, unemployment, job layoffs etc. hurt the locals. The locals can barley afford to go on the strip for leisure and fun. Clark county does not invest in the locals or the schools, its really sad. Off the strip life living in Las Vegas is really like a small town where everyone knows everyone. Tons of single moms who were ex cocktail waitresses, bottle girls or show performers. Tons of Gambling addicts, ex street walker lizard lot workers, drug addicts, alcoholics etc. you name it. Vegas is not for the weak its a tough city and I enjoyed living in Las Vegas. It has now embarked on a complete corporate takeover where it is not that affordable for the average citizen. I remember back in the 90s and early 2000's, Clubs were free, drinks were free, 2 for 1 buffets. Buffets for 10 bucks, drinks for 2 bucks. clubs were 20 bucks max. Vegas used to be super fun, but around 2015ish it really started to get corporate and bouge. Vegas will be for the rich elites soon. I remember when you could park for free in any parking garage and just explore the strip, it was super fun. Now you have to pay extra resort fees, pay for parking at the casinos when it was once free, but hey life changes and nothing ever stays the same. I get it, sports, gambling, rigging games etc. All about money over people. Profits over people.

I have been living in Las Vegas since 2015. These are the pros and cons IMO Pros are - Great for starting and building a business, low taxes and unlimited amount of great shows, restaurants etc. Another one is great family communities such as Henderson and Summerlin. Cons are - Real estate prices have gone up a lot and likely will continue to as we are starting to run out of land due to Mountain ranges surrounding the entire city. Traffic is getting worse each year it seems. Are things perfect in Vegas? No. Are they way better than most places. Absolutely.

It is funny to hear some people advocate for low or no taxes at all, but afterwards state that the lack of Government support in some areas (water or energy supply, child care, school, transport, etc...) is limiting the growth capacity of the city. To be clear: I am not saying that high taxes equals high quality public services! It does not work this way. The main thing is: taxes have to increase as the city expands, and more services are demanded by that increase. Hence, with time, Las Vegas - and its cities - will have to increase taxes.

Also, the lithium mining boom for electric vehicle & battery needs is huge for Nevada as a whole. ‘the new oil’, and Nevada some of the largest fields of it on the planet. Nevada’s newfound status as the second presidential primary state on the Democrats’ calendar in 2028 should be an interesting wrinkle, too. (It’ll be South Carolina-Nevada instead of Iowa-New Hampshire). I find that a compelling draw, esp since that Brightline rail is targeting a 2028 completion - just in time for the Olympics in Los Angeles. There’s planned to be World Cup matches in Los Angeles or even in Las Vegas itself (if the shaky LA stadium plan fails) in 2026, too. Very interesting time to be in the state.

Nevada does not tax its businesses??? YES IT DOES!!! Nevada has the Modified Business Tax (tax on wages paid) and the Commerce Tax (gross receipts tax). Business licenses are also based on gross receipts rather than a flat fee.

That professor talking about "no" water availability should be fired. There's water. Las Vegas has a credit. The intake in Lake Mead is lower than the dam. No one bothers to really look at the situation.

EVO should have been mentioned. A yearly esports competition that recently was awarded a key to the city and a local holiday by the Las Vegas Mayor's Office deserves to be mentioned alongside the Superbowl and the F1 because the Mayor did so during his speech.

imagine traffic. in most tourist packed places they still do not limit car traffic. It's insane. No good public transportation. So you will be dependent on your car if you live there. Plus potential problems with water. No, thanks.

Inflation is at the highest it's ever been, credit card debt is at it's highest in history and yet Americans still have "disposable" income to spend. Something's not adding up here

you literally explained it yourself. Inflation is up, so, naturally, debt will be up. 10% higher inflation with 10% higher debt cancels each other out.

Inflation doesn’t have such a negative effect on people with higher than average incomes. It’s a well known fact that high inflation really only affects the poor and middle class. The other thing is high inflation leads to higher asset values, thus opening up more disposable income for those who own assets.
@poochyenarulez9 ай бұрын
@@blongshanks77 High inflation helps low income people with debt. The debt is worth less the higher inflation rises.

Nevada is the 6th fastest growing state economy - growing pains expected. I've invested in Vegas, so I see the rise in business & real estate as a good thing. Not overly concerned about crime and water yet. For Vegas, tourists still rule the revenue streams and they'll go elsewhere if they believe it's unsafe to visit. City officials know this. As for water, there's just too much money on the line. Vegas stakeholders got The Money and The Power - they'll find a workable solution.

I usually like the CNBC specials, but this one was heavily financed by the Las Vegas Convention and Tourism Bureau. The statistics for the sporting venues are the same statistics that Steve Hill has been touting for years. It fails to mention that the Raiders still owe over a billion dollars back to the government and the revenue the Raiders and the Super Bowl generate are based on a 10 year projected tourism and convention boost the city will receive from having their city spotlight on a worldwide broadcast. As for F1 there was no mention that the event attracted fewer spectators than expected and they had to discount ticket prices, they also didn't mention tourism dropped the months leading up to the event while construction on the strip was going on and popular features like the Bellagio Fountains were not accessible. They also didn't mention the lawsuit from several businesses losing money from F1 or the lawsuit from teachers in regards to Nevada paying for a baseball park. These numbers are very skewed in favor of Steve Hill and his agenda and do not tell the reality.
