Seven is one of my favorite comfort movies. I can watch it over and over. Zodiac too.

Zodiac is peak cozy cinema. Violent scenes end after the 30 minute mark and then it's just pure brown/orange comfort.

_Se7en_ was entertaining, but Michael Mann's _Manhunter_ was actually creepy. The scene in the hotel between Graham and Crawford was amazing and chilling. The recognition on Crawford's face was genius. Plus Brian Cox was the ultimate Dr. Lector, no scene chewing required.

I took a look for it, but didn't see it.I'm going to avoid uploading premium episodes because that seems like it could upset the content creators.

How could this movie be “about” or set in New York when the desert is an hour away!?
@janosmarothy54092 жыл бұрын
Dude who wrote the screenplay says it was inspired by his time spent in NY. It's technically set in LA but the uncharacteristic raininess and the built-up verticality of the surroundings are stock visual shorthands for communicating the big cities further East. And I could be wrong, but pretty sure elevated railways running through dense residential areas like in the dinner scene aren't even a thing in actually existing LA.

@@janosmarothy5409 yeah no not at all LA doesn’t have any subways/trains Se7en was also shot to make it resemble a lot of different american cities to add to the ambiguity of the setting

I never like consciously thought about it too much, but my assumption, ever since first seeing it on VHS rental in the 90s, was that the city was Chicago… and the ending was _supposed to_ be a stand-in for a rural area outside of town (but bc it was presumably shot in Southern CA, the location just _happened to_ be more of a desert/ xeric shrubland)

also maybe it’s not a desert maybe it’s just a super-deep beach on Fire Island…? (could partly explain why gay actor Kevin Spacey was so pumped to be heading out there)

I'm not all the way through the episode but one franchise that TOTALLY was inspired by the crime scenes in Seven was Saw. I saw all those movies before I ever watched Seven (late millenial lol), and those scenes in Seven seem like what inspired the idea for these grotesque death traps

Until mind hunting most killers got away because cops didn't want to be gay by taking non White non adult men seriously. Documentary on Netflix about John Wayne Gacy and the police basically just letting him go and doing a really half assed search of his house.

In the UK we had a tv show for years called Cracker starring Robbie Coltrane (Hagrid). It was based on a real criminal psychologist that worked with the Met Police and it was one of the biggest shows for a couple of years. The real person the series was based on completely seduced the police and the prosecution service, and they came to rely heavily on him in a number of high profile cases. He was later discredited for helping send the wrong guy to prison for the best part of 10 years for the Rachel Nickell murder. Turns out that asking a suspect about his relationship with his mother isn’t a substitute for proper investigation.

Greatest television series Britain has ever produced. Coltrane was a force of nature.

I wonder what Shannon thinks about Creep 2. It's also a mockumentary that tries to explore a killers mind, but I like how it doesn't so much as romanticize it as it tries to regain an understanding of it after being burnt out.

Will, as long as we are born with whatever makes us human, there will be art. People thought writing as a medium was dead when they started to be able to mass produce books. If anything, more people will be able to enjoy film now, and cinema's will be reserved for people who aren't agoraphobic. You'd hope at least conservatives would brush up on their media literacy so they can understand most of what they enjoy is mocking them.

I don't agree that Somerset is stupid. And I don't agree that Gwyneth Paltrow is bad in this film.
