As a drummer I love the idea that drums were that way because they "looked good"... meanwhile oldschool drummers had their toms at like 75 degree angles because they are so ergonomical

I still think they look pretty cool 😂, but I think somewhere between flat and 75 degrees is optimal

@@MortonCammar Yeah dude, Trivium, Darkest Hour, As I Lay Dying, and Killswitch Engage are especially my favorite bands. I'm a sucker for the melodic death metal influences that those early bands had. Also, I agree that Of Mice and Men should have been on the list as well as Haste The Day

I had some buddies who were in a successful (relatively speaking, still a local band) local band in the SoCal metalcore scene in the early 2010s. I wasn't in it, but I was pretty involved in helping them with setup and selling tickets and such. I miss all that. Between the 2am Denny's runs with all the bands and the amazing small venues out there it was easily one of the most fun periods of my life.

Something to bring up about the Prada > Attack Attack > Asking Alexandria pipeline is they were all recorded/mixed/mastered by the same guy, Joey Sturgis. - Prada came out first with Plagues in '07 - Attack Attack dropped Someday Came Suddenly at the end of '08 - Prada dropped With Roots Above and Branches Below in mid '09 - AND THEN Asking Alexandria dropped Stand Up and Scream AT THE END OF '09 Highly recommend looking into his discography specifically because of how much great stuff he's done. Specifically from '07 - '10 he did: The Devil Wears Prada - Plagues - August 21, 2007 For the Fallen Dreams - Changes - January 8, 2008 Attack Attack! - Someday Came Suddenly - November 11, 2008 Oceano - Depths - March 10, 2009 The Devil Wears Prada - With Roots Above and Branches Below - May 5, 2009 Miss May I - Apologies Are for the Weak - June 23, 2009 For the Fallen Dreams - Relentless - July 21, 2009 Asking Alexandria - Stand Up and Scream - September 15, 2009 We Came as Romans - To Plant a Seed - November 3, 2009 Of Mice & Men - Of Mice & Men - March 9, 2010 Confide - Recover - May 18, 2010 Attack Attack! - Attack Attack! - June 8, 2010 And that's just in 3 years! Insane amount of work and influence in such a short period of time.

If you dont include something from your fellow Canadians, Misery Signals, off Of Malice, Mirrors, or Controller for the old school metalcore video I'm gonna cry 😢 Seeing them on their recent farewell tour was incredible. Would also like to see a vid on your high school music taste too! And do the lyrics instead of the music video!! A lot if metalcore lyrics can be pretty generic, but there's some amazing lyricists in the genre. Boundaries and Foreign Hands are two that come to mind, although part of the revivalcore going on in the last several years

I love this video series very much! It's so nice to see somebody exploring music like this. If she likes the songs or not, it's not as important than the fact that she tries. In my metal head experience it's very rare to not just be, you know, looked down upon or stubbornly sticking to their prejudices. I would love episodes where she recommends her favorite tracks :D

I got excited when I saw metalcore, then frowned when I saw it was 2010's metal core 🤣 I raged so hard when I first saw the Attack Attack video because it was so many things that I hated about the fashion and musical culture of the time all at once: the hair, the v-necks, the skinny jeans, and the decidedly emo clean vocals. I was definitely an early 2000s metalcore guy, preferring God Forbid, Shadows Fall, Chimaira, Killswitch Engage, and others.

My earliest metalcore albums were around 2010 with God Forbid's "Constitution of Treason," Killswitch Engage's S/T, and Hatebreed's "Supremacy." Jamey Jasta's vocal style made the transition from nu metal's rapping into hardcore shouts easier, and eventually harsher and more guttural vocals.

No disrespect to the band or liking them, as i love Protest the Hero, but they are not metalcore. They are progressive math rock/metal. I mean, it's arguable what they are exactly, but metalcore is not one of them unless your only qualification is singing and screaming. All that said, happy to see this at all. You can easily do a part 2. Gotta show her Eskimo Calboy now or One Morning Left so she can get something funny. Or just do the EXACT same bands later albums since you have a tendency to pick their first albums (which is probably appropritate to walk someone through your shos). If all else fail you can pick the list from "Hey Jarrod, What's the Song Again?". Either way, gotta bring in Smokehauntus for the AA redemption. also The Devil Wears Prada named themselves after the Book, not the movie lol. Also damn, roasted. Modern TDWP is a 10/10 to meeee.
