The Bilmuri fan base is SO fun and refreshing too. I absolutely love that so many people are more open to blending genres and I really love the overall sentiment / attitude etc around music is also making a big turning point. If you think about it, Bilmuri is the perfect fit and compliment for Sleep Token. What really needs to happen is....Bilmuri needs to CLOSE with a few songs for Sleep Token, that way we don't all go home so freakin' emotional with Vessel closing with Euclid.

I occasionally look up metal covers of pop songs on youtube. The kind where they actually keep the original vocals and record new instruments for it. If it's done well and maintains some semblance of the tone/feel of the song, it's amazing what just having instruments I like can do for a song I was mild to cold on.

Bilmuri is probably my favorite band right now, and has been since Eggy Pocket. Nick notes the fusion quality of the music, and that’s certainly one reason. Johnny et al have managed to synthesize a variety of somewhat disparate musical idioms into a whole that feels neither jarring nor unnatural. Everything comes together, works together. In my opinion the seeds of it can even be heard in early Attack Attack, with songs like stick stickly (which has a similar inclination, but doesn’t move as smoothly as his more recent material). More than this, though, is the way they have integrated musical styles as well as humor and cultural artifacts into the landscape of their music. Dialogue from the Halo games, soundbytes from WWE, even the occasional (and I think deliberate) over compression of audio against big bassy booms. Bilmuri’s music is like a stream of consciousness collage of a certain turn of the century American experience- one I find particularly relatable as someone who also grew up in the Midwest. What they are doing is new in a way, but it’s using so many familiar tools. Nostalgia and innovation, familiar progressive. It feels like home, it feels brand new.
