Great interview personally I have fished all my life mainly matches time was a factor in the early day with a family now I can go when I want but the change from the 70s 80s is massive especially the amount of tackle omg and professional attitude sometimes I think a lot have lost the enjoyment factor its win win at any cost I don't mind getting bashed up every week by Mr Conroy he's earned it 😆

Ask any angler who knows Will “who is the best angler you have ever seen or fished with?” and you will always get the same reply. Absolute class angler and one of the all time greats without a doubt.

Does Will ever see one of the top commercial anglers such as Jamie Hughes or Andy Bennett becoming an England international? Both are tremendous anglers but are pretty one dimensional.

Will talked about such thing in one of the TackleGuru podcast with Matt. Today's anglers have so different routes/paths options. At the old times there were nothing else but fishing for small fish on natural venues. Now in the era of commercial fishing, the number of commercial waters, the hypes around them, the media coverage, the big payouts finals attract the young generations. The whole angling scene in England is divided into two big parts, the commercial fishing and natural fishing scene. Most of the time these do not overlap. The whole rule set is completely different. Of course if some international event would be hosted on a commercial water type, I would bring A. Bennet, J. Hughes, A. Power and such guys. But these events are mostly on natural waters, so I would stick to guys like W. Raison, M. Godfrey, L. Kerry and such. The commercial fishing looks a bit one dimensional as you wrote. If you can bagging on the pole and can use the short feeder and waggler rod decently, you are good to go. But on international level, you need to be able to waggler fishing on 50 meters, using bolo, whip (short for bleak and such and long as well). The two types of fishing requires different equipments and setups. I believe you can not really be success on the highest level on both, mastering one tooks so much time off of the other. Of course I am talking about the level of international competition.
