I agree with you on all points. Knowing however how much these boys suffered during training can't seem to justify the financial investment that SBT supposedly made, because SBT was also earning revenues from the events where the boys and other SBT talents were being made to perform. They had to learn Korean, Chinese and Japanese songs to suit every occasion. So, SBT was, to some extent, exploiting the boys years before they launched their first two songs. What they were given as allowances were hardly enough to sustain a healthy lifestyle. Pablo said he had to sleep in the studio just to save on transport cost and be able to pay for his food. The other boys, except for Justin, who comes from a well off family, had the same experience. That said, I feel they ought to just junk the name SB19 and come up with their own identity, one that will truly represent their vision, which seems to be 1Z. Truly, the name SB19 has no value without the original members behind it. But as you said, whatever track they take, all we can do is to continue to support them because they are trailblazers in the Philippine music industry and they have all the talent and skills to take the industry to higher levels. Praying for them and wishing them well. May God continue to bless and light their way.

From the start considering their training days to performing on events the company assigned them to, mall side without even an audience yet, vlogs, them gone viral to guesting on shows till they were recognized to promoting brands and even going international I think and I believe that our boys already had given back enough if not more to SBT the investment they made on them. But to junk the name just like that isn't easy since as we all know all their hardships, struggles and efforts the "blood, sweat and tears" they had was already attached to their name SB19, that's them, it's their brand. They built the name, gotten award recognition (of course bec of their music and artistry) and even now known globally. So imagine how it's really hard for them to leave their name. Otherwise they wouldn't be facing legal battle for it if they can just leave that name or they could've just change their name right ahead when they announced their own new company also. So it's just fitting to fight for it coz it's their right and they earned it. They experienced a lot in five years being SB19. But then again as we can all agree as a fan what we can do for them is to support them whatever their decision would be and pray for them and hope for the best in them. At the end of the day whatever happens they are still our one and only Mahalima, our Ppop Kings!

It is imperative that we advocate for the protection of these young individuals who are bringing honor to our nation. It is crucial that we correspond with our esteemed Senators, urging them to intervene and assist these boys in a just manner that will be advantageous for all parties involved. Together, they can negotiate a feasible arrangement for the complete settlement of their debts, allowing them to rightfully claim their name. It is disheartening to witness the corruption prevalent in the music industry, not only in the Philippines but in any country. The GKD video sheds light on the distressing mistreatment our artists endure, which may explain the limited exposure of Filipino talents on the global stage. I am more than willing to affix my signature to a petition that we can present to the government, as I firmly believe that the overwhelming support from fans will compel the government to take action.

My main take away from this is that I have to check myself. The mommy side of me is looking for a ‘thing’ to attack so I can defend my boys, Pablo, Stell, Ken, Josh, and Justin. They are hurting and so I am hurting. I feel like crying and hitting someone at the same time. Ultimately I know that there will be a resolution to these issues. ‘Unconditional support’ is a given. I had been waiting on what your take would be on this issue. I agree with all of your points. I think SB19 either has to buy the rights to their name or better yet create a new name. Their current name is too coupled with their ShowBT beginnings and Korea, but their current goals is to promote the Philippine talent and culture. As a business, I cannot see ShowBT giving up their rights voluntarily especially when the SB19 name is now a very viable product for them. It seems they’ll want to milk as much as they can out of it, especially when I can imagine they probably believe that they had a very significant hand in “making” SB19 what it is now. In reality, the five boys’ talents were already at a high level when they entered ShowBT and just needed, for the most part, developing further. ShowBT’s investments should definitely be recouped but they actually had seven years to do that. If SB19 really wants to keep their name, ShowBT should sell the name to them. Honestly, I just want the boys to cut all ties with their former management company.

This will not happened if Showbt take good care of SB19. Sb19 work hard for their name they write their own songs they choreograph their dance and even direct and create their own music video and concert so whats the use of the company if they just do all the works unlike Bts they were provided everthing all they have to do is to perform. So i hope SHOWBT will have the heart to give the boys their SB19 name bcoz thats their blood , sweat and tears. Hoping for the best for MAHALIMA.❤.

I've been wondering the same thing.. In one of their interviews or live, they mentioned that they've consulted experts and discussed legalities before moving on and separating from ShowBT so I thought they must have discussed this early on otherwise they were given bad advice and bad lawyering.. On the other hand, if they have made an agreement with ShowBT thus were able to continue using "SB19" until after they launched their new company (which what most likely happened) then that prior agreement must be honored by both parties. Having great lawyers at this time is critical for them, someone who is expert in Philippine laws and policies surrounding this subject. At the end of the day, ShowBT is a business entity and this may not be a good publicity for them. that We can only hope that their moral values will prevail and honor their agreement or come to a fair settlement. As for the Mahalima, they truly claimed their "Pagtatag" era this year. Indeed this year is filled with challenges na pinapatatag at ipapatatag ang kanilang buong pagkatao. Praying for wisdom for them and the entire team as they make the right decision.

Since SB19 is going International, they are now under the other countries' laws. Patent is the name of the game. Look what happened to "Prince", Taylor Swift and other big known singers. SB19 has to rebrand or buy their name and logo from their previous Korean management. I live in US, copyright, patent, and trade mark (TM) are intended to protect people and brands. Good job in reporting this.

SB19 is going to be P_POP's GOT7 when they walk away from JYP. When I initially heard about this, I felt hurt, enraged, and sorry for the guys. I'm confident that no matter what they do, they will overcome it together, and we fans will always be there for them -not the company. Without the artist, the name is nothing. For me, let go and release all the baggages. It will affect the mental health of the boys if they will continue to fight for that name. So hope they will let go and come up with new and much better name this time that is not anymore linked to SBT.

Thank you for this objective take on the issues surrounding the use of the name SB19 and the artists concerned. While the whole story is unknown outside of the parties concerned, for sure, the events and posts about it are causing so much distress to the artists and fans alike. Your posts serves not only as a source of good information but also as a rallying point to stand behind Pablo, Josh, Stell, Ken and Justin. They worked so hard to promote Filipino music and achieved so much success which provided huge financial inflow to their previous employer. And now that they decided to be independent, they have to grapple with nefarious practices in the music industry. I agree with you that SB19 without the artist is nothing. Despite the current situation, the Five remains to be a valuable and profitable asset with a huge loyal following. So I pray justice prevails for our boys in the end. And they continue to do what they do best - make beautiful music and perform on the world stage happily and freely.

A lot of this could've been avoided if the management side of the music industry would simply start treating the artists that they sign with more respect. give the artists a more equitable contract AND NOT simply bleed them dry of potential profits and then throw them aside with no safety net after their popularity has waned. In other words, the artists they sign are people that should be treated as human beings instead of commodities that have expiration dates. We all know that the music industry, in any country, functions that way, and that should change! A little humanity goes a long way on avoiding these types of legal battles that seem so inevitable in every artist/group's career. ✌️

It's the boys that made the name popular. Though ShowBT created the boys with that name, it will be useless without their hardwork & perseverance. And since 1Z Entertainment is already a different company, the boys didn't realize/know about the legalities of a name & still used it. So we can see how shocked they are now because this will definitely involve a large amount of money and of course will greatly affect a lot of other things. But I believe in the boys specially Pablo who is the CEO. They had overcome their struggles and problems in life and they can do it again & again. Hints and clues had been dropped previously in interviews and other appearances, hindsight lets us put them together. In the end, we all hope and pray that human decency, mutual respect and goodwill prevails and brings a solution agreeable to all. The international reaction and support by fans and concerned people is something that must be factored in if labels want to attract more talent. SEAsia has a large pool of undiscovered and under-promoted talent who will start out with this as a guidepost

4:22 You have to consider that South Korean Law or any foreign country's law in that matter is not necessarily parallel to that of the Philippines. Second as you mentioned, it still has to go through the court so it is not necessarily Better in those countries you mentioned if that is what you are pointing out. Most artists are not lawyers or does not have Legal knowledge / background so it is possible that SB19 was not given proper or sufficient legal advise regarding the rights to the name SB19. 12:25 ShowBT is not a Filipino company so regardless if they are doing something great for the Philippines does not matter at all. I think that something like this happening is also a good thing for awareness purposes. Most people including myself are not privy to the legalities of building a brand name and the rights entailed with it. I would love to see Legal content creators tackle this matter to shed light and educate people instead of being just emotional and not knowing the legalities of the issue and as to why this happens every now and then.

that was a great insight! tho i really don’t understand why the band name issue came out just when they created their own management. i mean isn’t it the first thing to do when you leave your former management, to settle everything and that includes the band name? was there no lawyer/adviser involve? if SBT won’t settle if they do it legally then they’re only left to change their name. sure it will be difficult from the start but this will stop SBT to profit from MAHALIMA. and the whole world will get to know what kind of company SBT is if this happens which will be bad for SBT’s business. and i do hope SBT will see it like that. and just simply settle it legally and have both parties to be compensated well.
@sundae-on-sundays Жыл бұрын
She said it at the beginning, and I agree with her, that most likely 1Z and ShowBT had a prior agreement about the usage of the "SB19" name and logo before they left. Like you said, that's the first thing they should settle and they did. Stell mentioned it during their Pagtatag presscon. He said, "pinaglaban namin yung SB19 na name mismo" nonverbatim. Now, whatever made the situation change, we don't know. We can only speculate.

The best thing to do is to change the name to MAHALIMA. Maaring mahirap sa una but soon that hirap will be overcome. Besides it's the legacy behind 1Z which is break the norms. So pangalan muna uunahin. It's the A'TIN fandom who called them MAHALIMA. SB19 is nothing without the support of A'TIN and the enormous talents of Pablo, Stell, Josh, ken and Justin. Mahihigitan ng pangalang MAHALIMA ang SB19. Just in case naman na gamitin yon ng previous company para sa talent nila they can be called fake dahil hindi nman sila ang original. So don't be afraid of the changes. GOD bless Mahalima Keep going, soar high, A'TIN we're just behind you supporting❤❤❤🎉. Anyway po thanks for the suggestion. I believe through prayers this problem would be resolve soon. My thoughts, whatever is the outcome, Mahalima for sure will become better/bigger because Pablo, Josh, Ken, Justin and Stell have already established their names. No one can take away their skills and dreams. No one can replicate how they create their music and how they inspire their listeners. The previous management can get money out of this situation but this will not sustain them forever. After this, one possible consequence is that Filipinos may no longer trust and work with SBT or even Korean companies with similar business. Maybe this is a blessing in disguise. Maybe in the future, 1z, as a movement, will spearhead the protection of Filipino artists.

It is okay to give up the SB19 name because our mahalima can create their own name. Talents made them popular not their group name. korean entertainment companies are greedy will see those on news but most of their artist are afraid to voice it out.

The pronlem is sb19 will expire in 2031. Mag aantay pa po yata sila ng taon bago mapalitan legally ang pangalan nilang sb19..

Its not as easy as you make it sound.how about their songs released under the name SB19,how about their social media platform etc.giving up that name means they have to start from zero.they have been doing well even when they left that company, there seemed to be no problem, maybe something happened behind closed doors that fans may never know.why now that that company is up and down about SB19?

Thank you for your insight. It makes me hopeful about the future of Mahalima. Like you said, it won't be easy but with the support of the whole fandom, PabloJoshStellKenJustin will come out of this storm stronger and better.

WHAT'S IN A NAME??? We all remember William Shakespeare... "A rose by any other name would smell just as sweet!" Pablo right now is more well known than Sejun -the monicker we all call John Paolo Nase- the genius leader of this trailblazing Kings of P-Pop. If there's no resolution to this debacle and they can't get their name back, then maybe they can Create a Name, one that represents them, suits them. I wish it is as simple as dropping a name and picking up another. I truly don't know the extent of SBT's claiming the rights to the SB19 name. Eventually SB19 without the boys will be just a name! Whatever, however it is, I pray for courage and strength, clarity in thinking, and peace and acceptance at whatever decision PABLO, JOSH, STELL, KEN and JUSTIN ever come to! A'TIN most likely feel the same way-- I came and I'm staying! However, whatever you want our support, just let us know, MAHALIMA!!! 💙💙💙💙💙

This mahalima i understand intends to help our local artists make it internationally by way of promoting ppop globally, and they can only do this by separating from their Korean management. The phil government should mediate or do something about this because this wil really really help phil economy and promote tourism and other industries that can generate income. It will promote our country's existence in the whole world and ultimately gain the respect that we deserve from them.❤

You’re right, we don’t know the story. all you said were right. Mahalima is silent, and we better be silent, too, and yes, we can say our feeling but let us refrain word/ words that might incriminate the other side, bcoz we don’t know the story. I admire A’tin, as much as I admire our Mahalima. but can you remove the “greed” what does it stands for? Hope the Mahalima 1Zone will surpass this kind of situation just like before. Thank you for the suggestions for our Mahalima. Hope all you mentioned can reach them.

Greed! It's all GREED. Why don't the senate tackle this. Are we, the Boys being harassed in our own land? This should not be so. Can't we rely on our lawmakers for defending the boys who did & will be doing a lot for the industry, for the country & for its people. The boys has promoted a lot for the Phil making it famous all over the world.

Right from the beginning I said the boys should just let go of the name and change it to Mahalima or MAHA5 since its their own names, individual personality, talents and artistry that made the name SB19 famous without which it would be nothing. As for the rights to their songs, unless otherwise expressly provided in the contract, they own those songs so there is no reason why they cannot sing or promote them under another name. They should get a good lawyer or maybe our top lawyers in the country could step up and represent them for the sake of national interest.

When this happened to Mahalima, it made me appreciate JYP for not dragging Got7 in a lawsuit over the rights of their name when they left JYPE as what happened to other kpop artists who did the same thing. Andami ng pinagdaanan ng lima at ng A'tin, we will get through this too. Focus lang at wag padadala sa d magandang sinasabi at sasabihin ng iba. Be vigilant, be their 1st line of defense, not the first to point a finger at them. Whatever they decide on, A'tin will be here for the 5 of them, not for the name that they carried. Thank you for saying what I've also said in my group of friends. The five boys are the ones who made that name popular and together with A'tin, it became "valuable". Without the 5 of them and our fandom, that name will just be a regular name. So I'm okay with whatever the boys decide to do if ever they need to 'cross that bridge'. We were able to promote them when they were starting up, we can promote them again now that a lot of people have seen how talented they are. Every obstacle that we overcome, the boys bounces back stronger and A'tin comes out fiercer. 💙

If it might be helpful, please look into GOT7.. there's might be a similar situation, but they successfully gained almost everything including their name, all equally owned by 7 members, to this day the grp are still together and also individually successful. As I mentioned before on your previous topics, LEGAL(retained) services is a must. Honestly, it's a bit frustrating that the boys were not appropriately adviced, which should have happened, especially when they were starting to gain traction. Please correct me if I may be wrong.

Being a fan, I love that you’re so logical and level-headed about the whole thing. I have mixed feelings about the name changing. Pwedeng oo Pwede ding Hindi. Pero a legal battle is just …. It might do harm than good. They’re going to lose their momentum!!!! Waahhh!!! Nooooo! My two cents worth. Love your analogy though ! Would love to hear more.

the legendary first-generation kpop boy group "shinhwa" had to fight their original company sm entertainment in the courts before they got the rights to their band name. it took them 12 years, they had to pay royalties not only for their band name but also for the use of their own songs until they decided to pay sm entertainment in full. other bands were not so lucky. "beast," a popular second-generation kpop boy group, had to change their name to "highlight" when their agency, cube entertainment, refused to give them their name. "got7," the popular third-generation kpop boy band was lucky. their original agency, jyp entertainment, handed them the "got7" trademark without any problem. people are now waiting to see what will happen to another popular third-generation kpop boy group, "btob," if they can use their name since they did not renew their contracts with their agency cube entertainment. it is unfortunate but some management companies own the rights not only to the band name, but to the songs the artists are performing as well, especially if the group does not compose/write/produce their own songs. if the latter is the case (hopefully not), then SB19 may not be able to perform the very songs that made them famous, unless they pay royalties with every performance.

I hope this will be resolve immediately and at some points about your discussion is true . I think the management should understand the struggles and hardship the boys go through during their training and the first attempt to get recognize as a group. They put ll their efforts to make their name known not only in the Philippines but also to international audience. Without their efforts their name is unknown to all the people and now that they are successful this problem come about. I'm hoping that this be settled accordingly . Thank you for your thoughts about this matter.
