Insane amt of control. I think his disability that he said he discovered, that he doesn't pick up non verbal is what contributed to the situation happening/ unfolding the way it did. He wasn't able to pickup on Will's demeanor or his approach towards him, that it was aggressive and was going to result in battery, albeit slap or punch. His disability wouldn't have allowed him to, so he stood there not anticipating aggression, and actually smiled, right up until receiving the slap. His disability ended up being what saved the "show." Had he been ANY of us, without the disability, he may have had WAY more knee jerk reaction and everyone woulda been Kung-Fu fighting. He literally had this disability serve him in self-control, in the seconds that someone w/o his condition would've just been ready to retaliate, on or off camera. It really was something ELSE.
@Thatgirlbam2 жыл бұрын
@@wordlifefactory1656 It wasn't a disability. He misjudged Will and gave him credit for having the common sense not to do something stupid in front of the whole world. People seem to forget that… Will is from Philly and Jada is from Baltimore. As a fellow alopecia warrior, my hair falls out and (sometimes) regrows back in cycles, I often find myself cutting my hair, shaving a lot of areas. I commend Will for standing up for his wife. I am also surprised that Chris made this joke, with how vocal Jada has been about her alopecia journey and how sensitive she is about experiencing it, coupled with Chris Rock doing the documentary “Good Hair” a few years ago to encourage his own daughters about embracing their own hair

Right. I remember a interview Jada did on the Oprah Show. She was saying how she didn't need a man for nothing. I do feel she is the strongest person in the relationship. She molded Will. @wordlifefactory16562 жыл бұрын
@@sweetee81 I still think in Will's mind, especially after that delayed response in laughing either nervously or because HE did take it as a joke, then saw that Jada didn't, he thinks stepping to Rock as he did, was in fact not being a coward. I think he still has a long way to go defining cowardice for himself. I hope he is on his way to doing so. As for Rock, I think when he said "Jada" as in really called her name, specifically, and when you watch the 2016 awards, it comes off as if it is a "targeted" or personal joke, and that's something Chris has to figure out. Only he knows if he just wanted to get at Jada a lot, or if he really just meant to spread jokes in a very general way, and just happened upon her, in the front rows of this Oscars. I don't say this, to say Rock deserved ANYTHING like what happened AT ALL. I say this to say as I have been saying, about comedians. The way that you can try some jokes in this type of venue (OSCARS) vs your own comedy show (SPECIAL) can be different WAYS and I think Rock and comedians need to really understand that. It's an extra GIG, so just take it as that, and reserve all the insensitive jokes, dark humor, etcfor YOUR OWN SPECIALS. There's a different level of event there vs Black Tie, and a different "space" too. Comedians can do A LOT, to really make sure you aren't alienating their audience. They gotta remember their audience at all times, and TAILOR the jokes, accordingly. If by chance the person you are even thinking of cracking a joke isn't a joking person, BYPASS them. It isn't worth the issues that come with that person who you were going to LAND a joke on. The joke he told in 2016, included Rihanna and her panties, did she mind? Who knows. She hasn't come off nearly as stoic as Jada has about these things though. Asap Ferg referenced her in a song, Rihanna hasn't said anything, it's like there are some people that make their reactions EXPENSIVE and those who don't. Jada's reactions are cheap, she's shown she's easily agitated, throws her weight around as the celeb she is in different situations, and even as the long lost love of Tupac. It is enough as a seasoned comedian to BYPASS her ass, and make light and humor with OTHER spirits in the room. I just wish he had.

My husband and I discussed this while it was happening, and we are both in agreement that this is a culmination of events. I am sure that Chris tested the joke many times and probably told it many times in small circles before he decided to take it onto the world stage at the Oscars. The Smiths and Chris Rock have never quite been friends, and Chris has a sort of grimy sense of humor, too. Anyway, most slaps are a long time coming - they don't just happen as isolated incidents by people who lose their composure, and Will certainly kept his composure while giving Chris something he earned. My heart aches for Chris Rock. He’s had some questionable moments but nobody deserves that. Assault aside, he was humiliated. This insult is solidified, not only was it broadcasted - it will be a stain. Also, disheartened that a lot of people embraced Will Smith for this. Unacceptable. Nobody’s responsible for your triggers. Show some restraint and communicate.

Words have Power, Violence is never Good, You just never know where a person is mentally and there is so much a person can Handle at times. So, If anyone wants to come out the Mouth unfavorably, and you want to use Comedy as a justification to tear someone down, then, handle and take the Punch just like you gave it.

Yes! AND right before making fun of Jada, his joke about Javier Bardem and Penelope Cruz was uplifting and complimentary. All these folks talking about the optics can eat a couple of dycks. @@jazznorelletv Right. All comedians feel as though there are no consequences to their words/jokes. Like they're "untouchable" because it's "their job"--but they already should expect to get "touched" or roasted in return because not everyone will be in a joking mood all of the time. Not saying Will was right for slapping him but, considering everything he's been going through and letting slide and laughing off for years, its understandable imo. Chris Rock should have said, "I guess everything is open in Will's marriage except for jokes!" Jokes aside. I was sad. At the end of the day, one of my childhood heroes, Will Smith, laid his hands on another person. He literally physically assaulted someone. If that had been myself, I would have been escorted by security and then arrested for assault. Then, his speech had almost nothing to do with WHY he won his Oscar and almost entirely to do with a personal existential crisis he's going through that also reflected delusions of grandeur when mentioned "God" and the "devil". ..... .... It was just rough to see.

After everything I have read about this incident this was the most insight commentary so far . You took the time to gather a complete background of all elements involved this was not a rush to judgement statement . There are so many moving pieces to the situation it is really hard to give a definitive point of view. After reading Will Smith's book and him saying that hes always been a coward (Childhood Trauma) speaks volumes... he watched his mom get beat by his dad and he never tried to help his mom...he just stood there and watched in silence... so I'm sure he will not let anyone humiliate his wife as an adult. Also I feel Chris isn't a "threat " he was doing his job..he was at work..working the Oscars....I can't see Will smacking 50 Cent, Dr Dre, or Suge Knight..lol just to name a few. When Will smacked Chris it really was a message for Laverne... unfortunately Chris was the last straw... I feel the joke was in poor taste but typically Noone is off limits when it come to comedy. If the Smith's are over it then the Smiths need to stay from around that red table. When we air our laundry (be it dirty or clean) on social media, we then open our experience up to public scrutiny. The moral of this story is keep your business off dem people's social media if you don't want to deal with the backlash. Is that not what we tell kids and young adults???🤔
