Sincerely felt the same. I was hurt for weeks after witnessing that. Chris Rock should have never had to encounter that. And what we're not going to do is normalize this mess as a "mistake" (LisaRaye smh). Apart from the degree to which Will is a groomed veteran in this game, he had plenty of time to think before taking that long ass walk up the stage to act a fool. His behavior was a direct result of not living in his truth. Please don't normalize toxic behavior, Lisa Raye by minimizing it down to a "mistake."

Chris is the real MVP! The way he recovered from that was amazing. The whole incident was embarrassing and foolish, and the worst of it was the cussing from his chair. If not for that, this could have been played off as a bit. GI Jane was a gorgeous badass so I took the joke as a compliment. Also, we’re used to seeing Jada with short hair so it’s not like this was a drastic change.

August, a friend of Jaden during a difficult time came to stay with Will and Jada in THEIR home. Jada then begins an affair with an emotionally and psychologically fragile man child in THE FAMILY home. Will and Jada's marriage per her request was an open one with discretion required. For Jada to attend social events with August, take him on family vacations with Will and post endless pix of her and August on social media was selfish, disrespectful and indiscretion. Initially, Jada and Will denied she was involved with August, which leads me to believe Will didn't know until August told the world. Jada made Will look like a damn fool, yet he sat down with her at that red table and listened to his wife tell the world about her entanglement. Jada seemed confident and carefree, IMO Will's laughs and smiles were uncomfortable. Then the public clowning of Will amped up and nothing was off limits, his friends were going in as well. The pix of Will and his faux(?) dad body, comments about a boy making Jada happier and breaking her back, etc. Yet, his support of Jada didn't waiver. That song August wrote was disrespectful as hell to Will. But Jada was the one that gave that man child the ammo to hurt and humiliate her husband, the father of her children. How would it have looked for Will to physically harm a man hurting emotionally and psychologically in addition to his health issues and addiction? Why was it on Will to clean up a mess Jada made all by herself? If Willow was in crisis and staying with a friend's family and the 50-year-old father seduced her while she's extremely vulnerable he'd be labeled a predator and pervert, as Jada was too. Will may be suffering from a form of PTSD from the upheaval and humiliation he's faced over the last couple of years. AA didn't want him to play Richard Williams because he didn't have enough melanin -- so get a brother with more melanin that won't give a sister the time of day? Will's a brother that has honored and respected his ex-wife and their son and demanded Jada respect her as well. His rap music doesn't disrespect sisters or promote criminal lifestyles. He's been financially savvy and until recently a role model. His acting portrayals of heroes and achievers of our community are respectful, poignant and his dedication is obvious. I don't understand how his 1-minute of antisocial behavior should now define him. He lost it and acted out of his character for 1-minute and men accused of sexual harassment and rape are criticizing him. Child rapists continue to be members in good standing, nominees and winners, but Will's actions are so egregious action is required. We have so many rappers and AA male entertainers dragging sisters, calling us ugly (some must not ever look in a mirror at themselves) and nappyheaded, want anything but a sister, especially a melinated one, those that beat and shoot women, the ones multiple baby mamas and the deadbeat dads and we are making Will persona non grata? Just like Chris understood Will is a brother in crisis and needs us to rally around him, we need to support and uplift him. I have to say this, Michael Jackson with all his disturbing behavior, (50-year-old men do NOT sleep with boys in their bed), never been seen with a sister except in a video, and he is beloved and idolized, same with OJ, yet we didn't exist in their lives. Will a brother that has not forgotten his roots, and we are abandoning him because of less than a minute of him loosing it.

Jada’s reaction didn’t give me “hurt”, it gave “I can’t stand this ninja”. Will did not bring up alopecia or medical condition being the reason for the blow up until social media mentioned it, that’s a PR spin and a cop out. I agree with Lisa about GI Jane, I always thought Demi looked bomb in that movie. it wasn’t a malicious joke at all. Will and Jada for the first time are not held on a pedestal, thanks to the “Red table”. I think the constant ridicule has just got to him, they’ve never been clowned like this and he is only human. That said, it was unacceptable.. period. This had NOTHING to do with the joke. I agree with everyone here, especially CLAUDIA! I applaud Chris in this.

Chris was wrong too. Comedians aren't exempt from consequences running their mouths at somebody else's expense. Chris IMO knew what he was about to say was wrong when he prefaced his remarks with "I love you Jada" and the silent "but" that comes after is always wrong/hurtful and then proceeded to say it could've been worse. Wow. Like he's done them a favor for not saying something worse. Really? His other jokes weren't about people's appearances/med issues either. Comedians have done well w/ making folk believe they're the only profession that can say whatever they want w/out ramifications & that's not so. Chris learned it in front of the world what it feels like to be humiliated by his own words that he's done to others. perpetrate What he said wasn't horrible, but after Will seeing Jada's response may have triggered him. Chris handled the slap very well but he also knows he's gone after her in the past and was wrong from the giddy-up. You never know what folk is going through, and best we keep our mouths off of other people regardless if they put it on front street or someone else does it. That boy put the affair out, not them and its been an onslaught of criticism and jokes every since. 2 wrongs doesn't make a right, we don't know what else has gone on between them 3 in private, and end of day its best to not say ill about anybody or at their expense. Laughing at or trying to get a laugh at someone else's expense means we're a mean society as a whole. ITA w/ Sylvia's view of the situation completely. Everything we hear/see doesn't require an opinion or comment ALL THE TIME either. As John Legend said to a reporter "no comment." Smartest answer I've heard yet about this situation from celebs.

Chris was not in his right mind at that time to make the decision to press charges or not. I'm sure he had a lot of things going through his mind at that time. He had to continue with the show and try to keep himself compose. He can't spend a lot of time with the police when the show must go on. It should be up to the producers and the police to make the decision to remove Will Smith. When someone is that angry, security or the police need to make the decision to remove that person to make sure that everyone in the room is safe. The bottom line is the safety of everyone in that room, not just Chris Rock. What if Will Smith got so angry that he picked up a chair and threw it across the room and injure someone else who sat nearby? The Academy is obligated to ensure the safety of guests in that room.

Everyone was expecting Will to apologize to Chris during his acceptance speech. He couldn't apologize right then because he had just slapped him & was still upset in his feelings. If he had apologized that quickly it wouldn't not have been sincere & genuine. Will has spoken about feeling vulnerable & guilty as child seeing his Dad abuse his Mom & not being able to protect her. I think his aggression came from that trauma combined with the ridicule & scrutiny that his family has faced online as well as the incident with Janet Hubert. He snapped on the wrong person,it was displaced & displayed hurt.

Unfortunately, while I do advocate non-violence, Amerikkk have taught us that humans don't usually listen to peaceful protests and requests. It literally took a civil war to finally free slaves. Christ-followers are called to turn the other Cheek, yet Christ shall return with war. Because I don't attend such things as the Oscars nor listen to such jokes (the jokes of Chris Rock) nor watch the movies of Will (per my own Christian walk, by the grace of God and to His glory), I can say that the solution would have been for both of them to follow Jesus Christ, and, that particular situation would not have happened, as certain roads lead to certain evils. As a former well-skilled boxer and U.S. Marine trained to kill, kill, kill, fighting has been a key part of my life. Nevertheless, as a servant of the blessed Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, my warfare is a very different one. So, I have had to Refuse to engage in physical wars and fightings for the sake of the Gospel and the glorious Name of Jesus Christ. But, looking at the situation through wisdom, they both were in the wrong and in the wrong place at the wrong time. Much love in Christ Jesus forever! Apostle Thaddeus The Ministry of Pure Truth All glory be to God forever 🙌😊 Praise Christ Jesus forever 🙌😊 Hallelujah Holy Spirit forever 🙌😊 Amen.

Thank you Claudia and Vivica for calling spade a spade. It is what it is. I can see where Syleena is coming from, however, I think that Jada gas-lighted Will and he reacted because of her facial expression. She did not look as though she was offended. She was laughing when Will assaulted Chris. Who does that! How can a woman with dignity sit there and allow her husband of so many years to go on the stage of the Oscars and slap a presenter in the face? Who does that! She needs to take several seats back and does some introspection. Will also needs some counselling and therapy. Clearly, he is going through some serious mental issues. From what I have observed, Will seem to be acting out of psychosis and depression. He really needs some help and his family should wake up and offer some help for him before he becomes like others who are no longer with us. A word to the wise. Chris Rock's joke was not malicious at all. In fact, he complimented Jada by saying that she is the next G.I. Jane. That is honorable and positive! I don't know what is wrong with the world why wrong seems to be right and what is right seems to be wrong!!!!! The Devil is in the details. I am sure that God is NOT the author of confusion!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

My Queens, Vivica, Claudia and Lisa Raye spoke my same sentiments. Chris Rock is a comedian and whether the joke was intentional about Jada's Alopecia, that is his job to tell jokes on the audience and he handled that slap of embarrassment with grace and continued to present. This is not the first time comedians went it at the Oscar's. They clown everyone...We all get talked about, but we don't go around slapping people. It was in poor taste and embarrassing to watch. No accountability.

Will’s life is a joke. Not even his money makes me wanna switch places with him for one minute. He slapped Chris like a woman would do, and he only did it to avoid an argument with Jada (later that night) for laughing at the joke himself. Had it been comedian Deon Cole up there Will wouldn’t have even THOUGHT about it. I’m with Lisaraye, I’m the violent type and there definitely would’ve been an UNexpected reaction. They would’ve had to cut to commercial because it would’ve turned into that legendary fight on Geraldo Rivera’s show.

She is bald because of her medical condition, so that is why she is bald headed. Therefore, the joke was distasteful. Either way, you don't make fun of people because you don't know what they are going through. Why make fun of someone's wife? Why make fun of a black woman? What other woman did he single out? It's not right what he did, but I understand.

I agree with Claudia. I believe Will Smith dealing with deaper issues than that joke. Chris Rock was doing what he was hired to do. I don't honestly think he meant bad and knew about Jada Smith's alopecia issue. When J.S rolled her eyes is when Will changed his countenance. Chris Rock handled it with professionalism. And I again agree that the same attention and respect should have been shown him to see if he was ok.
