Stannis is 100% aware Mance is alive. He had him in his solar disguised as Rattleshirt and before he burned rattleshirt Mance and Stannis "spoke for hours" according to Jon. They are clearly working together where Mance is the inside man at Winterfell. You need to watch more of the Order of the Greenhand.

I actually wonder if Stannis might be our Epilogue POV character for Winds Of Winter. Maybe he'll die fighting the Others to buy time for our heroes to rally the rest of Westeros.

I would love this. But I think it's too much, having Davos, Stannis, and Mel all as POV characters. George already needs to cut down on POVs. Maybe as the three heads of the dragon, deconstructed if Stannis dies in Epilogue. But I doubt it.

We'll never know considering Winds of Winter's new release date is sometime before 2027...maybe. But I remember when it was 2016, then most definitely 2017, then without a doubt 2018, which changed to 2020. After that it changed to 2021. Then one of his friends told fans to stop bothering George because he wasn't their b*tch. Now it's before 2027...maybe, when he's gets close to 80. I seriously hope he has other people trained/prepped to finish his work.

I wonder if Dany even has been educated on family trees and inheritance laws in Westeros. Wait till she finds out that as a woman with no children (dragons don’t count), no living siblings, parents or immediate cousins that her heir is actually Stannis. Stannis’ grandmother is Rhaelle Targaryen and he is the last living and oldest relative of Dany in the eyes of Westerosi law (Jon Snow is considered a Stark bastard and is at the wall)

Ya didn’t blame Salladhor Saan at all for leaving, frankly I’m kind of amazed he didn’t kill Davos on the way out. Davos convinced him into a venture where he lost a lot wealth, power and men and ended up gaining him nothing. This is Planetos, people kill for WAY less, even old friends

He didn’t lose that much given that his contingent was the rear guard. Honestly, with what pay they got, probably still could have been a net profit, even if he didn’t jump ship shortly before his employer would have been able to pay him again.

Stannis, The Last Hero. The only King who saved the Nights Watch and will liberate the North in order to fight the true enemy from the lands of always winter. Others squabble over an Iron Throne while The One True King will fight most likely die defending his realm, even if majority don’t support him or have fought against him.

Stannis has a plan. He's one of the best commanders remaining in Westeros after his brother. Ned, Tywin, and more were removed from the board. Nobody in Winterfell has the strategic mind he possesses. We know the Roose is cautious and Ramsy reckless. We know the Freys likely charge into the ice and Manderlys turn their cloaks, through it can be argued that they were never really aligned with the Boltons so they're actually remaining true to their word to Davos. Of course, show Ramsey would only need a few good men to lay waste to Stannis's army. Fortunately Ramsey remains on the show and not in the books. The Blackfish remains on the run and probably finds his sister Stoneheart to help coordinate the Red Wedding II. Jaimie will be forced to help to save Brienne.

Renly’s body was buried by Loras in a secret place he knew from his time as a squire at Storm’s End where he knew it wouldn’t be disturbed. Sure if it’s ever found it may get moved wherever Baratheons are traditionally buried, but otherwise unlikely to come to rest near Stannis. Had Stannis known where it was, he might have shown the body to Cortnay Penrose to help convince him to surrender the castle.

In the North Stannis now has as close to full support as any Northern lord has had in the past minus the Boltons. He has the Manderlys who can navigate for him politically and hold huge sway as loyal supporters of the Starks. The Northern lords are all mostly being held hostage by the fact that the Boltons have the support of the Freys and the Lannisters who control the Riverlands. As that starts to erode it becomes clear to Bolton's false allies that the time to strike is near. We see that in Dance quite clearly. Stannis also has support of the Iron Bank. Tommen does not have such support so most of the wealthy houses will not threaten the Iron Banks will. The real question is how is Stannis going to respond to losing Storm's End. Aside from Shireen it seems like that castle is really what Stannis is fighting for. He will have to leave the front to gather intel about his childhood home. That being said if the Wall gets attacked by White Walkers I believe Stannis will address that enemy before succumbing to his emotions. After killing the Boltons and Freys Stannis will become a legend the eyes of the North, if he is not already.

I don't think Stannis wrote the pink letter. What would he gain from goading Jon to ride south? Stannis and Jon have a mutual relationship, Stannis saves Jon and the watch from the wildlings, Jon councils Stannis on northern politicking. Mance himself is a more likely writer of the pink letter.

Lets be clear....the Iron Bank isn't desperate to support anyone. This is business. The coins they are throwing at him are insignificant compared to the pie they are trying to collect. The banker who travels north doesn't seem desperate anywhere in the text. He's taking risks because thats his job and he says so. He also gives the Nights Watch coin and they aren't desperate for the watch either. (the only reason he loans to the Watch is because its an old institution that is likely to still be around to pay)

Very desperate! They tried talking to kings landing for for a very long time and many people (including Cersei). They sent ships to easwatch and had an envoy ride all the through to deep wood motte then to the village. This is all while being in a huge storm which required guides. As in business, they would never act desperate (to protect their position), to give them the best negotiating power. Recall John talking about them both walking out mad after their meeting

I don't think sending ships to KL or have Tycho Nestoris risking his life to reach Stannis was desperate of them. The cost of sending ships and stuff is peanuts to them and they as a corporation don't give a f about Tycho's safety, as long as he has a chance to complete his mission, he's just a small replaceable cog. They are known for always getting their money back one way or another

I hate to say, but Stannis is probably already doomed from WAY back. Stannis says he got a letter from Ned? And Cersei shows the bloody letter Ned sent to Sansa when Cersei has Sansa write those 4 really weird letters. How did he get a letter from Ned if the courier never left KL? Stannis with the Iron Bank is a deal with the Devil-contract signed in his blood. Here, Stannis take ALL the debts/sins of Lannisters on as well. Stannis is literally clearing the slate for KL and THAT is the ONLY reason he is still in the game and might last a while longer. Stannis has the backing of IB which is like having Satan back you if this was OUR medievel type of world. Or even in music if you consider them Crossroads Deals. Stannis had to be so much fun to write into existence. Stannis flipped the board when he signed that contract...just like how Aegon-Griff slears the board when playing with Tyrion. I THINK it might mean Stannis LOST and had to realign himself {with IB} to keep his war going. Stannis is going to be FUN-BAD to read from here on in. Look at the Asha Theon Stannis chat with that raven in the Tower. THAT was a show for the Raven. Asha cannot be a real prisoner if she wants to ransom her men. That was a tiny slip on her part in the mummer's farce of that scene. A few little slips of the tongue in that who situation tell us it is a shitshow for someone else watching them through THAT Raven. When Kevan dies-there is a White Raven for THAT mummer's farce. It is the Ravens in the room...not the people. Varys is talking to the maesters and Oldtown/Hightowers when he kills Kevan with the White Raven as his audience. WHO is Stannis making his show for? He says WHOSE {black} Raven that is...and it is messing with me. Did Stannis help kill Jon? I think he might have somehow. I am pretty sure he did-it is oddly worded and I THINK Stannis took the Wall debt as his own as well in the Blood Contract he signed. And if so, the Stannis is going to live long enough to get to the Wall-he will stay in Kings Tower and he will be King there. Shireen CANNOT burn unless Shireen somehow gives HER permission to die for her father's cause. It HAS to be voluntarily done or it breaks the magics. Shireen is going to be tricked somehow into saying 'yes'. The Wall is cold and damp-THAT is going to trigger her greyscale...at the least when someone gets greyscale at the Wall? Shireen WILL be blamed for ALL of it. But THIS-NO matter WHAT-sacrifice is only a sacrifice if the person volenteers. Otherwise it is MURDER. Stannis can't 'sacrifice' Shireen UNLESS Shireen says YES for some reason-otherwise Stannis is simply murdering his daughter.

It’s not that much of a Faustian bargain. Even if Stannis had disavowed the debts of the Lannister regime, he’d still have been bound by honour and inheritance to make good on the debts his brother had wracked up as king (assuming he ever managed to take the throne). Debts dying with a debtor just isn’t really a thing in a Medieval society.

Stannis is responsible for Shireen being burned. Martin has been very clear on three things from the show will happen: Hodor and his story of saying hodor, Bran taking the Iron Throne, and Stannis being responsible for his daughter being burned.

False. GRRM never said that. Instead, the incompetent showrunners said that they got from GRRM that Shireen would be burned, not that Stannis would be responsible. It probably isn't even logistically possible for him to give the order.

@@gothngo2943 OK fair enough, I looked it up in the ebook of Fire Cannot Kill a Dragon and GRRM indeed does say that, so you're right. It's news to me, originally the showrunners were vague about what exactly GRRM told them. It changes a lot, because it means that: 1. Stannis somehow makes a complete 180 regarding his daughter and her status as his heir 2. Stannis needs to stay alive to give the order, which means he will survive a lot longer than I expected, he will be around well after the battle of Winterfell and the fall of the Boltons. 3. The sacrifice will happen a lot later than I expected (I always suspected Melisandre would use her to revive Jon). It probably would be an event near the nd of TWOW or even be pushed into the last book.

I don't think he will survive TWOW, but I hope that I will at least be devastated when he dies. I want it to be a big thing. The show managed to destroy his character so badly and with such awful writing that I didn't feel a thing when he went out. The character dying wasn't Stannis, and the battle where he went out didn't feel like a real event either because the events leading up to it were so incredibly contrived and unrealistic. I still can't wrap my head around how dismally awful season 5 was, that season gets WAY too much love. Perhaps because of the nice flashy battle at Hardhome, which makes people forget how the other 98% of the season ranged from extremely boring to horribly written.
