Will Starfield DETHRONE No Mans Sky???

I've heard some of my friends comparing the two games with each other, which is interesting since Starfield hasn't even been released yet. I keep saying it's like comparing an 8-bit computer like a Commodore 64 to an 8-bit console like the NES. Two different things that occupy similar niches and yet aren't quite the same thing.

NMS isn't a Space Sim. Its a Space Survival game. Its in a league of its own. Starfield will also be in a league of it's own as well. Starfield is a RPG set in Space. Anyone still comparing the 2 that haven't grasp the concept above needs some assistance.

yes. yes it did. For me at least... And to think, all the time I've played it I literally never ever never ever though it would happen... Amd here we are:) It's a indescribable blessing to have either, let alone BOTH, but Starfield simply satisfies that exact itch for what I can only call 'The Perfect Sci-Fi Game' . NMS was simply the best that I had acess and prcialle to enjoy and dispite all the little things that kept me from calling truly perfect, one of the biggest apescts of that was... the spceships themselve... spefically the part where you can atually walk aroud indise them,and staff them with crewmates and captain it all, all while being fucking massive... ohyeah and you can just straight up desighn them yourselve...so that alone is pretty epic if you ask me:) Aside just that, the simple wieght, scale and,f e e l of everything is perfect. and just everything in general is literally perfect for me. I could go on... but I just got nothing to say:) I have and always will love No Man's Sky... But Starfield... Starfield is Everything(to me) I love Starfield:)

Problem with No Man's Sky although I love it, is that it's too easy, free freighters and such, by the time you do enough main missions you have so much tech that things like exocrafts are useless. There are many other examples of really easy ways to get millions of this and that as well as look up a location of the best s class ship and get it free etc. Pretty much the tech tree and progression is terrible and their is no way to truly "sandbox" this game and legit work your way up from the bottom like most people enjoy. It would be amazingly satisfying if it was and you actually had to pay for your freighter instead of free s class in 3 hours or know that you ship is truly rare. You can avoid some of this with a mindset but definitely not all. This unfortunately ruins the "point" of the game for me. And don't get me started on multiplayer lobbies spamming unlimited rare goods into your inventory lol whole other subject. Game is way too easy and takes the point away from itself and ruins the satisfaction for me personally. Hope they fix it, it needs to be more challenging pemadeath isn't the answer lol.

I just play the game and have fun, for me I don’t really need any “point” to do something in the game it’s just fun and cool to me. But your comment is kinda what I meant :) for people that are not able to enjoy the game like I do starfield will probably be just the game!

you can go for the hard(er) way in No Man's Sky if you want. I do play NMS without any adjustment to the settings and i don't use any of those cheats to get tons of money or resources. I play with different saves and after 1500+ hours i still have not done everything. I also do play in VR only, which creates a totally different and amazing level of immersion. Nevertheless, a more complex and difficult game mode, e.g. being a hunted pirate from the start and trying to survive against all authorities would be something to keep more people enganged. Not everyone is enjoying exploring and building bases.

I agree 100% that these games are in two different markets. I have constantly been in search of my perfect 'comfy game', and I acknowledge that they will have considerable overlap because Bethesda has trended closer and closer to the 'comfy game' niche that No Man's Sky has so neatly occupied, but they are on completely different ends of the spectrum. No Man's Sky is completely open, it gives you a loose set of goals to chase at your pace, but let's you make your own rules. Fallout 4 and Skyrim give you an illusion of openness, but in reality, they both have a tightly controlled gameplay loop designed specifically to mess with you and force you off of your set path so as to never be overwhelmed by a lack of direction, because whatever direction you go in, there is a defined path that you travel. No Man's Sky has never been my comfy game, but I 100% see how it became that for so many. It knows what it wants to do, and it does it spectacularly. It gives you a universe to play around in and explore at the player's leisure. That overwhelms me. I have pretty severe issues that mean for me, playing No Man's Sky too long can actually fuel my anxiety, not take it away. For years, Fallout 4 has been my go to comfy game, despite its numerous, NUMEROUS flaws. Something about the triple threat of solid gunplay (When balanced through mods), junk looting, and settlement building can dump so much serotonin into my dumb lizard brain. I can make my own stories in my settlements, get into gunfights when I need action, and go scavenging when I need to activate the crow instinct. Something about having those three options available at all times, and having systems in place to facilitate chasing them at your leisure, and having them feed into each other makes me feel happy and relaxed, once I dump around 500 mods into the game to make settlement building actually fun, immersion to actually be decent, and fixing the dead and uninspired world design in the game. But if Starfield can actually accomplish what Fallout 4 set out to do (But was curtailed by severe system limitations), and just lean fully into the settlement complexity, emergent gameplay elements, refined gunplay, and meaningful looting/crafting, then no matter what else it fails at, it will be my permanent comfy game that other games will have to try monumentally hard to get me to switch again. That is what I want it to be. Not Morrowind in space, not even New Vegas in space, despite those being two of the best games ever made, but just redo Fallout 4 and stick it in space and I will be a happy monkey-brained good chemical factory.

I never really got into fall out 4 I instantly maxed carisma and it made a part too easy and then I just didn’t like it. I really do hope starfield does the things you mention because I feel like there has been a lack of rpg comfy games.

Because Xbox supporters are regularly mocked by Sony Ponies. Especially last generation with how few exclusives Xbox actually got. Sony fans were rubbing that in Xbox fans faces for years. Now there is a game that won't ever be on Playstation consoles, so Xbox players want to take this rare opportunity to rub it in Sony Pony's faces. Not saying either side is right or wrong.

I was gonna say this, a huge portion of PlayStation players or at least a very loud group of them will not shut up about their exclusives. Xbox dosnt make some games exclusive even tho they probably could, and I’m pretty sure Sony make every game possible exclusive. I’m not gonna defend a multi million dollar company against a competitor that’s doing what it can to be as competitive as possible but that ground of players really annoy me

Well that was ironic starfield have more things to do than nms 😂 starfield is 20% of what nms is and that's with voiced acting etc, nms just hits different with the I can do what I want build what I want etc. Not to mention loading screen after loading screen compared to nms fluent gameplay yes it's got issues and things I wish it did better but no man's sky is superior too starfield

I have been playing NMS for the day, I have such an expectation from the game, and now I can see most of the things I wanted are happening in the starfield instead of norman Sky. No man's sky is more focused on online multiplayer. With the less and less focus on a story, good animation, and gunplay,

i would love to play Starfield, but since i only play VR it's not an option for me, since there will be no VR version and Bethestas existing VR ports of Skyrim and Fallout 4 were just terrible. So i will continue enjoying No Man's Sky in VR.

It's a Bethesda game, of course it will be riddled with bugs. Look at Redfall, their most recent release. Their track record for releasing games with major bugs are undefeated so don't get your hopes up.

From everything I've seen so far, Starfield shamelessly bit off of No Man's Sky. The procedurally generated planets in Starfield look barren for the most part, whereas NMS' PGPs are vibrant and feel alive. I'll give Starfield a shot when it launches, but I don't expect anything as good as NMS at this point.

The planets are procedurally generated ONCE... By the developers... Then the terrain data is ported into the engine and filled with stuff. That is how most game worlds are created going back over a decade at this point. The planets are not procedurally generated live. Each planet will still have stuff manually placed on it, and be reviewed by a human, but terrain pieces, and most likely environmental dressing, was handled by a computer. They've just done the typical Bethesda thing of saying industry terms to journalists with the expectation that journalists will understand, but it just causes confusion. They don't know how to dumb it down for the press junkets and the braindead reporters, that's why we jump between things getting taken wildly out of context and 'it just works'.

@@true_cyan9188 Definitely a survival crafting/building game. All of the other features are extremely shallow. I will say though all of the other games with a space setting that are under the "space sim" umbrella such as Elite Dangerous are severely shallow outside of the flying. I'm crossing my fingers that Starfield doesn't have this issue. If it does I'm going to be extremely disappointed! lol.

I will not play starfield - because there are a lot of games I play.. (and you need time for playing XD).. and one big reason for me is..that you cannot really fly through orbit/planet atmosphere...on the planet from space. There is a shortcut in Starfield. But I like the feeling..flying through the planets atmosphere..like nms gives me.
