Does stringing a tennis racket at a low tension reduce the speed of tension loss?

Basically the question was answered with an assumption instead of a clarification. He assumes both 40 and 60 lbs loose tension at the same rate. Which was the guy's question in the first place. He's not asking you to assume he's asking you to explain and clarify. Then he talks about the pros, which has nothing to with the question. And then he ends with saying if anybody could try it for themselves they'll see what happens. Bit of a swing and a miss, this video.

This could have been a great experiment with tension measure tool, and recoding of tension right after stringing, overnight/before play, right after play and after so many days. Just like TW University does it but live and on this channel. Maybe have a part 2 to this video?

Needs to be tested. Two racquets same tension. one hour of tennis three days in a row and check results.

I thought the question was if the 60lb racquet will lose 10% but the 40lb one only 5%...etc

@movdqa 2 жыл бұрын
It appears that the rule of thumb is 10% but I'd like to see evidence that it is consistent. It's possible that that number is just an average for convenience. If you strung at 0 pounds of tension, then your loss wouldn't be 10% so I would expect the tension loss to decline as you approach 0.

Quick question for yall, if you are storing old tennis racquets, possibly for years, how would you do it? Would you leave them strung somewhat loose or store them unstrung. We are talking about old racquets like prestige classics

I have racquets that have been strung since 1986 and they still hit just fine.

What about if you pre stretch the strings? They should hold tension for longer yes??

From my experience: yes, prestretched they will hold tension better, but: they will go dead sooner and will break sooner too.

Most polys on are shown on TWU as having a tension loss in the 40-50% range, compared to multis in the 15-20% range. Does this mean that if most people string initially at 52lbs, they will have a tension near to Jack Sock and Mannarino levels after a few months of play?

Definitively.

He just guessed without any testing. His presumption that lower tension loses faster than at higher tension is completely counter intuitive to me, I would presume the loss is pretty proportional to the force applied on it.

I stretched the yonex vcore 100, for some reason, until the 11 and 12 horizontal strings were stretched, these two wires were misaligned. then continue to stretch the next strings, it's normal. so what's the reason?

I want to save money (keep.my tension at a tolerable level for 1-2 months: If I like tension 23-25kg. How tight would you suggest me to string my racket?

I’ve been stringing at lower and lower tensions due to the change from synthetic gut to poly. I’ve ben dropping my tension from 48 to 44lbs and there is a clear difference of tension loss depending on how you hit. In general, I often keep my sticks for long periods of time and after 5 hours of hitting while without being restrung for 8-12 months, the sticks feel the best. My current set up on my current sticks. HEAD Pro Tour 280 MIC 48lbs two piece strung with Pro’s Pro Red Devil 1.24 HEAD iprestige Mid Plus MIA 48lbs strung with Pro’s Pro Red Devil 1.24 mains and Pro’s Pro Vendetta 1.25 crosses.

There gotta be a point when the tension does not drop anymore. Or can it just keep on dropping and dropping? But doesn't that thin the strings due to stretch?
@sr.galletitas6853
@sr.galletitas6853 2 жыл бұрын
technically it would never stop, with time it would stretch at a slower pace than freshly strung

Hi I have a question. I’m using a hybrid set up confidential in the mains and velocity on the crosses my question should the velocity mlt be tighter or looser in the crosses ?? Thank you so much Great content keep it up 👍🏻
@andyyzf450

Should be strung tighter - I also use Velocity as hybrid (very nice!), I string it 2 pounds tighter than poly mains....I think rule of thumb is max 5% tighter - check on the web....

If you string a racket with poly and only use it for about 5 hours, and let it sit in your bag for 3 months, will it play dead?

Yes, poly loses tension really quick, 3 months is overkill

Man, Most ppl I know play the strings till they break. Given that it’s a very high level, they usually get 10 - 15 hours out of it. The string doesn’t go bad from sitting in your bag.

I don´t think it would go dead if you only played with it for 5 hours. A friend of mine, very good player, with flat strokes, breaks strings every 3 months. He doesn´t complain about tension loss.

Why does a pro player string at 24 pounds? Wouldn't it fly off due to trampoline effect?

Jack Sock uses Western Grip. It means his grip give him good enough top spin but it is not enough forward driving power if using common racquet string tension

@@alwaysfinishwhatistar1521 You talked just about I was thinking. Our brain is so powerful that in a little time we get used to changes. I´ve been using string A for 2 years. Last week, I strung one of my rackets with string B. The first 30 minutes, B felt totally different and a bit stiffer than A, I missed my usual drives (the path of the ball was lower so I hit the net sometimes). The second day, B felt better (I did not use A at all), The 3rd day, B felt awesome, I think that even better than A. So I took A for the first time since the change, and it felt horrible. A=Lasefibre Vorso 17 and B=Prince Tour XC 17L.

Poly strings have a different dynamic stiffness compared with multis and gut. If a poly and a multi were strung at the same tension, the poly would stretch less on impact with the ball. This is why polys feel deader on the stringbed and why you can string them at much lower tensions and still maintain control.
