Күн бұрын

Today IS the day.... HOPEFULLY!! Let's find out together if all that cleaning we've done to the fuel system and injection pump is going to be what it needs to FINALLY start up after it's 10+ year slumber!
Let's get the Stanadyne injection pump reinstalled and see what happens!
~
Check out the FULL Playlist Rescuing this old loader HERE:
• Allis Chalmers 645 Whe...
~
This old loader is a 1965 Allis Chalmers TL645 Wheel Loader with an Allis Chalmers 3500 turbo charged 6 cylinder diesel engine. It has an Allison automatic transmission, and can reach speeds of 21MPH going forward! It is articulated and can make VERY tight turns, making it very nimble in tight places. It weighs about 26000 lbs or so, and it's a PERFECT sized machine for all the random things I do!
Join me on this journey as we work together to figure out what it's going to take to get this machine back up and running once again! This will be a daily account of the process showing a bit more of what is takes to properly bring this old beast back to life and make it usable once again!
This machine should be a LOT of fun!
~
Thanks as always for watching and following along with all my crazy adventures here on Salvage Workshop, I TRULY appreciate it!Please enjoy! I know I did!

Amazing trip through the injection pump and onto success. It felt like an "abandon all hope to all who enter here" journey into the complex inards of the rotary pump. Went on to read a bit more into the interesting history of the development of the rotary injection pumps which came to fruition in the early 50's. Credit goes to a Mr. Vernon D. Roosa who pioneered the technology which greatly reduced costs of diesel engines. This success certainly speaks volumes about our hosts talents. Helped a friend with his loader which shared companies with Alias Chalmers and Fiat an Italian company they merged with. Looks very much like it. Same geometry on the cab and hydraulics.

Re the no-shutdown issue, go and look at the previous video. There's a couple of adjustments on the top of the pump (- especially the locknut/adjuster above the banjo fittings, that alter the tension on the shutdown linkage). You could even just remove the top cap of the pump to see how much the solenoid moves and if you can manually force a shutdown by pushing the lever.

The solenoid stroke probably isn't enough to kill it. You should look inside the cover and make sure it actually closes the metering valve. Also, a worn metering valve bore may cause the pump to just keep the engine going, as fuel just goes around the shaft in the bore. Consider installing a new metering valve and/or installing a bushing. Great job!

Remember the wire was cut before, there may be a short that is not cutting the power completely to the shutoff switch. If not, maybe the solenoid or linkage on the shutoff solenoid is not getting full movement. But I bet it has to do with that wire. Easy enough to test by clamping the wire to the pump, start it and then pull the wire. Nice work on the pump.
@RangieNZ
@RangieNZ Жыл бұрын
It could be something like feedback from the alternator, that isn't stopping the supply in time. Running a new test wire/switch directly to the solenoid pin will say if it's a wiring/ solenoid/ pump issue.

Loved your excitement when she roared up! 🤣 For the shutoff, I imagine a worn out weak spring somewhere that doesn't close up a valve that stays open as long it's coil is energized, but I have no idea where to look for it. I hope you don't have to re-open the injection pump again... Thx for the update, I stay tuned! 👍👍👍

With no fuel pump a little air pressure in the fuel tank and the bleeder open on the injection pump it is easy to bleed the air without over working the starter. Then if you do not fill the filter with diesel, you get clean filtered fuel to the injection pump and injectors.

Great video again. I think the solenoid issue is a bad contact in the key. Because when you turn the key it momentarily tries to shut off. Next when key is fully turned it gets going again. To check loop out key contact with a piece wire instead. If that works you have a bad contact in the key holder.

you are going through exactly what I went through with an old international backhoe a couple years ago. same stanadyne injection pump and no lift pump in sight. sat for about 14 years and I never could get it fired back up again even with the starting fluid. I used to be able to but not anymore. even after rebuilding the starter the engine never would spin over fast enough to crank. bled all the air out of the lines and everything. sold it a while back and never did figure out what was going on with it.
