Six months ago I bought my 2023 F150 Lightening XLT. I absolutely love it. I travel to my job sites everyday and they’re all within 20 miles of my house. I charge every two weeks at home, while I sleep. I’ve had four F150’s, an Explorer & an Expedition, prior my Lightening and it’s THE best truck I’ve ever owned. The ride is smooth, quiet and it’s really fast!!

I went from an 02 Tacoma to a Pro, so keep that in mind. I bought a Pro standard range with the 100k mile warranty for $51k after tax and license. I think you can get them even cheaper now. The range is about the same as my old Tacoma. The pro has more features than I could imagine. If you are going from an old car, you don’t need more than the pro offers. I tow a 12 ft cargo trailer, and can get about 170 miles out of the truck while towing it. It’s not bad if you’re towing a somewhat light trailer. I am very happy with my purchase. I also bought the pro charger and installed it. I can get a zero to full charge in about 8 hours from my house.

Not too many people on Earth with homes worry about the 8 billion lithium-ion batteries in smart phones. Then there's all the tablet computers, laptop computers, flashlights, jump starters, portable power packs, home back-up batteries, commercial batteries, cordless tools and over 6 million Tesla vehicles with lithium-ion batteries. The National Fire Protection agency and the NHTSA report far fewer fires in EVs than in combustion engine vehicles for miles traveled. An internal combustion engine vehicle lights on fire somewhere in the USA every 45 seconds. So, at all times in the USA, a gas vehicle is burning. It's a common daily occurrence. Ask a Fire Marshall or any Fire Department personnel.

I just picked up a Flash this week. It’s the sweet spot in the line up, all the essentials without the massive price tag. By far the most value for an EV truck available at the moment. I paid under $60K. Every other truck is well over $80K I had a reservation way back when it first launched, but passed because of the over MSRP price. As an owner of now my wife and I’s 5th EV (model 3, 2 Model Ys, and a BMW I4), the Flash goes to the top of being my favorite. Great tech, superior performance, solid range, and an all around practical vehicle. I agree with charger anxiety, the network needs to improve if this is going to make sense for people who take road trips. GREAT REVIEW!

The preconditioning of the battery is heating the battery initially, not cooling it. It runs hot coolant through the pack to bring it up to the optimal temperature range to charge. After charging has commenced, it will switch to running cold coolant through the pack to maintain that optimal charging temperature because charging will inharently heat the battery. Preconditioning will have more effect in the winter when it's cold outside. All of this will of course, vary to some degree, depending on SOC and temperature.

I do have my Tesla adapter so I have the option to use those, but pretty much every ev manufacturer will have access to those also in the coming months. To top that off, Ford nor apple has routing to these tesla chargers to automatically route you to them, so you have to manually add them. Ford needs to get with the program and update your maps ( I can't use charge assist while driving so that really doesn't help) and also if the charging stats are on the 24's why haven't the previous vehicles been updated with these features? Are ya'll listening Ford? I'm thinking Tesla should have charged all the auto makers that wanted to get on their network a fee to help expand the network at a faster pace since they can do it like no other charging company.

Pretty good review here, thanks for making it. EVs are going to take off in the next 5 years with improvements like the ones made on this Lightning so those chargers will pay off. I worked in the automotive business at a national level interacting with dealers. I always wonder why 1) Dealers feel the need to pump the manufacturers for money and 2) Dealers like to cry or imply poverty. Those chargers have plenty of subsidy money available through the government. Either way, good for you as a dealer for getting on board and installing them. There is a Nissan dealership in Bangor ME with free level 3 charging stations and they get tons of attention/praise from EV owners and likely are getting some business out of the service. The Flash looks like it pays off. Makes a ton of sense for me as a builder of all-electric homes. Going to go and check one out based on this video so thanks again.

EVs have only 2 problems. 1-Most are just too expensive and hard to justify. (Usually new products try to be cheaper then the competition to at least get some traction and consumer trust) 2-The charging experience is still not good, needing to have a different app for different branded chargers is very annoying. And although I think they are really addressing the amount of chargers available they do still need more. (I had the Jaguar I-Pace for 5 years and just bought the F150 Flash and I love EVs and they're amazing products to own we just need to keep at it, it's not going to be better overnight or even in years but it really is getting better all the time and I hope companies don't give up on it)

Great points. I still believe in Ford as a company. I’m buying a Sierra EV, but I’ll always be a Ford guy at heart. Ford missed the mark somewhat with the Lightning - the main problem is its charging speed, and that’s not something they can fix with the Flash. But as Ford holds off to 2027 with its next-gen, I believe that they will catch up in the long run. The F150 is the most popular vehicle in America because Ford has delivered what people want for a price they can afford. The shift to EV technology may have created a challenge for Ford to overcome - one that they aren’t currently the class leader in - but in the long run they will prevail. I bet in 10 years I regret not waiting until 2027 to buy my truck, but at the moment I can’t wait that long.

Once they go NACS, it’s a serious contender for my next vehicle

You can get NACS adapters already.

@@yayinternets I don’t want to use an adapter, I’ll wait until til it’s built in.

@@stepheno.2730I hear you there. It's still in the early days, sometimes just waiting one year you end up with a much better product or price. I haven’t bought an EV yet for that reason.

Doesn’t high speed charging degrade the batteries?

They need to up the range in EV trucks. I get over 1000km to a tank in my Raptor.
@darylhopkins16275 ай бұрын
Stop lying! Raptors don't get that type of mileage, maybe 380 miles(611km) on a good day but not 620 miles(1000km)

Don't forget it has a Bang and Olufson sound system. That is a very big deal.

Won’t get one until they come with NACS natively

I don't like the idea of everyone switching to NACS chargers because now that charger that costed 1.2 million$ to make, is now gonna have to change out every single one of it's charge ports lol

So….. we save money by making the passenger side fender the same as all other models…. Yet we complicate the entire build process by adding an entirely new trim??? Why not just scale the price back on both existing models and be done with it….

Still happy with our Lariat Lightning at 10k miles, and our solar charging array is almost 10% paid for. another 4.5 years to free fuel. Got an oil derrick and a refinery in your back yard ? We live in Texas, and if we were in Houston, we'd have 5-10 days of backup power. The charging array also feeds a mini-split in the garage, and has 10kW of it's own battery bank. Combine the two, and you'd have 150ish kWh of backup power in case of an emergency. I know it's what people key on, but we've had ours for a year and a half, and still haven't used a DC fast charger. If you have a garage, you're going to have a level 2 charger, and be charging at home. If you're us, you're going to be charging with the sun...We have the Lightning, and two Mach-E's in the family.
