Mythic, I think this a classic Batman && robin situation. The players you mentioned are great robin’s, and being successful because of their Batman, Smith has Miles garret while Aziz has Brian Byrnes. Take them away from their Batman and they lose their luster, it’ll be like SMB, asking a #2 or #3 pass rusher to become our #1. That’s what happened with SMB at corner, look how that turned out. Deep dive into Aziz’s numbers, other than his rookie season he has not produced in any meaningful numbers. We don’t have a Batman for them to play robin too, expecting them to become someone else’s Batman is a recipe for disappointment. If we only trade for one edge rusher then I believe this will fail; either we need to trade for 2 players at the position or none at all.hough I appreciate the content, and your honest evaluation of the situation, unlike others who report rumors as if they we fac.

You are right about the batman Robin issue but it doesn't change anything. We only have 6 picks, Monti isn't going to give up a first and/or a second for a Batman style edge. Someone like Aziz would be a 6-8 sack edge, which would make him a replacement for Gardeck or BJ. Monti entered the season knowing he was weak at pass rush, he was willing play the season with Gardeck so a replacement for a 5th or 6th makes sense.

@ Iagree Monty isn’t going to give up a premium pick for a pass rusher.however, someone like aziz won’t make a significant difference on this D; his career best sack total is 8.5, and that was his rookie season, otherwise he’s average less than 5 until this year, and he has a Batman to play robin too.. expecting him to produce 6-8 sacks on his own is unrealistic, especially since he’d be drawing Batman like block schemes and he’s a robin.

@@MizakiFelix Of course he makes a difference. Both BJ and Gardeck are out, we have nothing for pass rush except Rallis's scheming. At worst Azeez will be a 6-8 sack guy like Gardeck and Gardeck has had the same situation, no Batman. While your Batman Robin analogy has some merit it's not as relevant as you think. Are you suggesting that teams are ignoring Azeez? Of course not, they are trying to block him. Teams only double team the best pass rushers because they have to, they don't want to use a TE, RB or receiver if they don't have to. Azeez is getting his sacks by beating his opponent, period. He is a second round pick, he got 8 sacks his rookie year, he didn't play full seasons the next two years and this year he is on track for double digits. I'm not saying he is the answer on the edge but he is a solid pass rusher and we don't have one right now. Next year Monti picks up a solid edge in draft or FA, we then have a edge with a really good double digit sack guy, BJ, Gardeck, Azeez and Robinson. That is the Batman Robin scenario you mention. I don't know what you are suggesting, that we do nothing because he isn't perfect?
