Re. lack of power and vertical energy retention. The Etendard IVM wasn't a fighter, it was a dedicated strike aircraft. The origins of this jet go back to the same NATO wide competition that resulted in the Fiat G91. It's an attacker, Gaijin can call it a "Naval Fighter/Jet Fighter" all they want, but the truth is it just isn't and never was, its a2a missiles are for self defence... Dassault designed it to perform a strike role and the French Navy employed it as such... if this is a fighter then so is the Skyraider...

Indeed, the amount of speed you loose depends on your AoA, it's the same thing for the mig21: it bleeds a lot of speed when it turns. Delta wings aircrafts tend to loose more speed because of their wings but in war thunder it is way too much multiplied so these planes loose more speed than they should do.

@@MrGx59 its not really overmultiplied in WT. A Mig 21 pulling max AoA IRL will bleed more energy than a Harrier VIFFing. The early rear set Delta wings were great for supersonic flight but they bled horrendous amounts of energy. The deltacanard configuration helped to solve it which is why the rafale and typhoon use it.

I think Gaijin exaggerated it’s energy bleed (I think this goes for most French jets)... It’s weird... How do it that only the French bleed this much despite having similar wingshape, and not very “Draggy” fuselages.. Where is all this maneuver drag even coming from? The sharp wing tips that the Sabre’s share? Why do Sabre’s not lose this much speed? I have so many questions as to why the French planes perform this way...

You and me both. Naval planes always suffer in war thunder so it already has that going against it, however even the F9Fs are better fighters than this thing is. On top of that, it doesnt have large control surfaces and all flying tails, items that typically cause speed to bleed due to higher G forces.... It just doesn't make any sense to me.

In fact, French jet fighters sould be the best "warplanes" in the game. Because they're all, in real life, designed by Marcel Dassault. This man was the father of the reborn of french air force. He has been traumatized by 1940 french defeat against nazis. He has been captured and sended into a work camp (also, Dassault was jude, his original name, wich he changed after the war, was Marcel Bloch). He reminded the poor performances of french fighters compared to the BF-109 beast. After the war, he kept this in mind, and start to design fantastics planes, he didn't want the french air force being triggered again because of bad planes. With his engineering team, he designed the Ouragan, Mystère IV, Super Mystère B2, and the Mirage III. All of these planes are a synthesis of all WWII lessons in matter of planes. They are very manoeuvrable, very reliable, they got very good and powerful engines and strong weapons. All Dassault jet fighters are equiped since the Ouragan of two 30mm canons, except Rafale wich has only one, and since Mirage III, they have missiles. French jet fighters are the best, in equality with Americans and Russians fighters, and maybe slightly better. That's why IAF choosed them for a long time, and they used them very very very well.

little tip, doesnt make the plane much better but you can use take off flaps up to 1060 kmh which makes the plane slightly but noticeably more maneverable, goes without saying that it makes u dump even more speed but increase a bit the chances of having guns on target

I really like this thing - it’s easy to lose anything on your tail if you just put it into a 10 degree climb. Although like you said you do have to be very passive since if they get in close you’re dead because you have to manoeuvre so much

hey whooptie, i dont want to argue with you but i think you are really missing what the etendard can do. i think the etendard is an amazing aircraft, and for these reasons: you out accelerate 99% of the jets you will face, including out accelerating the T2k. the flaps never rip, you can easily turn at 1000 kph with your flaps out, however, you will g lock. the 30mm DEFA (ADEN copy paste) cannons work perfectly once you master them, the downside being low amount of ammo. if you use a rush tactic at the very start of the match you can easily climb over the enemy flight path and get to them much quicker than the rest of your team and knock out 1 or 2 afk sabers tl;dr i think you should take another look at the etendard because it out accelerates everything, the flaps dont rip at any speed, the DEFA cannons are amazing, and rushing with the etendard is a great strategy keep up the great commentaries!

WhooptieDo well its simply because its not meta. In Sim Phantoms are the meta because maneuverability doesn’t matter as much if you cant see your target and as a interceptor it does well. In RB you cant turn around if someone’s on your ass, much like your issues with the entendard. Difference being the phantoms need much bigger than any air rb map to disengage. Rather than bleeding speed cuz, sorry france but your swept wings are airbrakes in a turn.

This atacker is similar in play style to Super Mystere but you have better energy recovering. You have to also use start flaps because it works like slats and really makes it turn tighter(and are unbrakeble) also if you add landing flaps in correct dosage you become fast and turning quick fucker. Quite useful are air breaks too. Main tactic and play style for it is boom & zooming sometimes you can do dogfight but you have to watch speed if you are bellow 500 better option is to recover the speed and try again. This plane works like this if you can fly SMB2 you can fly this only thing is just to get use to a little different shooting It is not so "flying friendly" but if you feel how to fly it becomes hard face puch for your enemies At stock this plane is quite like super mystere but after you get unlock comprssor and engine it becomes nice

i love this plane cant compare to the f100d as i dont have it just yet. but i see how it can struggle in situations but i love its broken rate of climb and flaps that dont rip, it also doesnt lock up so i can go 180 into a climb at 1300km/h while other lock up and crash. completely broken and ill enjoy it while it stays that way.

Power means nothing from Gaijin regarding French planes, BUT...power is a big deal on all MiGs who are over performing in game, and im not talking about the new broken Swedish fighters, its hilarious, this whole French b.r. and fighters settings is just a big joke, this thing has a Mirage III engine without PC! its heavy, it doesn't turn, it lose all its speed with a single manoeuver, it compress like crazy you just can’t put your guns on target with this model, its ridiculous, the Etendard is a super light fighter, 1 ton less than the super mystere b2 with moOOre power and thrust! It is praised by British and French pilots for its manouverabilty! And still, it sucks! you'll see if the Mirage III is coming into the game how bad it will be set... and we know ALL how the Mirages kicked the butts of all MiG's 21 big time at war, to be continued...

Drop the Etendard IVM down to BR 9.0, put in the Super Etendard which is a step up at BR 9.3 as replacement, then have the line carry into the Mirage 3 and Mirage 5. But that probably won’t happen for a while.

I can tell you're French :-). This aircraft doesn't do it for me though, in any form. I think I proved the energy retention issue with the vid. You might be staying fast and in the compression zone, which will help with ER, but you can't stay there the whole match...

It only gets hairy when one gets upteited to mig 21s but that's only happened to me twice out of like 30 battles

Sometimes I get caught in a turn below 800 and I'm a goner, that's why you rely on speed and nothing else and if you do that correctly the only thing you'll have to worry about in the sky is the shenyang 5 bc it can compare to your accel and has missile (I've only got 1 modification and that's the compressor)

TO BE FAIR. This plane was designed with strike roles in mind. It was meant to be a multirole strike fighter meant to either carry Exocet anti-ship missiles and anti-ground ordinance. So I can see why this plane is shit in dogfighting. Its similar to expect a AV-8 Harrier to be good at dogfighting.

I was actually excited to see a new jet for France until I saw that it was only a 9.0 jet that doesn’t have an after burner... 😕 France was my first nation to complete every tech tree. Plane wise, I only enjoyed the Hellcats, Bearcat, Hell-diver, the jet bombers, and the Super Mystere but that’s it. France lacks good planes in all eras. F-100 is cool but unfortunately only has a few armaments.

disagree with somewhat everything you say. It has more acceleration than any other plane of the same br, and you say it has bad energy retention, when it has better energy retention than any other thing at its tier, from the deck it can zoom climb to above 10k, a thing no other plane below 10.0 can do, it pulls 13G at 1300 km/h, and doesnt lock up. it bleeds a lot of speed turning, but gains it faster than anything else it fights. I have 100 games in it, and had a good feel for it, play it right and you will be a god. yes you cant turnfight a mig15/17, because you bleed a lot more speed, but try to break their speed, and go vertical, they cant follow you. if you bleed their speed, theres nothing they can do. With its climb rate and acceleration, theres no plane in the same position that can keep up with it. It's flight model is bugged at the moment, after you hit 900 km/h it drops 25% in engine power, the engine produces 5600 kgf below 900 km/h and only 3700 kgf at 1100, somewhat of a bug with the flight model.you keep saying migs will dump on it. In all of my 100 games, i've never been caught by mig in a vertical, and played it right, i've never had problems with the migs, not even the chinese F5.

What's your name in game? Everyone that's come out with arguments against me have negative stats in the plane, yet brag about how good it is. I want to see someone who can argue it and prove it. Genuinely want to see someone winning a fight against a mig pilot in this thing. I welcome you to come fight me with it, I'll grab a Mig15. I guarantee you won't be able to touch me. Even with your higher top speed, there is nothing you can do though.

@@WhooptieDo you mention the j32b being better at stall fighting than this, do you realise this thing has better climb rate, and better manouverability? I know you're a pretty damn good pilot, probably also better than me, but that doesn't mean you're playing every plane to it's strength's. looking at how you handled the mig17as i can say, you're not playing it right. The second you were out running the mig17as, you should have put it's nose up, you would have killed him. The hidden secret of this plane is to keep it below 900 km/h, since the fm is bugged. if you keep it below 900 km/h, you can out climb even the G91YS with no problems. the reason why you're losing the final stall fight with the mig15, is because you're manouvering, don't turn and climb in it. instead of going vertical, i would have drawn the down to the deck, or at least as far down as possible, then dove up again, they cant follow you in a climb, if you're at equal speed. play it defensive, bleed their speed, make them overshoot, plenty of options, stall fighting (while turning) is not the best option. I'm not gonna sit here and tell you, you're a bad pilot, because i would have done the same in every other jet with decent energy retention, but not in that or the super mystere. they require a bit more finese, and thinking ahead, due to the fact that you can't turn without bleeding a good amount of energy.

That's the thing, I know these planes could never have performed this bad in real life. Sure they may not be on the same level as those they're competing against, but not THIS bad! I'm partial to the French aircraft since I used to work on Falcon 20s, which adopted the wings and tail of the Mystere.

For the french tree the etendard was a welcomed addition, although it's missing the majority if it's ground striking capabilities...

Only thing Gaijin loves in this game are Russians. I know people say "Russian Bias" doesn't exist and such, but sometimes it gets quite hard to believe. Especially when a T34's flat surfaces tanks long 88mm rounds at 50m...

I put speed/alt in metric so I could be on the same scale as everyone else I played with. Temps I don't pay attention to other than colors, so it didn't really bother me nor did I notice for the longest time lol
