I just don’t agree with your position, like a significant number of Christians who support the other side of this difficult debate. That is fine though to have opposing views. My issue (not directed at you) is the total visible lack of compassion and kindness expressed in the realms of comments by people. So sad to see such harsh judgemental language. I am not gay but, were I to stumble across these, how would I feel loved and encouraged by all of this nastiness? People should focus on their own planks, rather than a small speck of dust in others’ eyes.

@Andrew Bilton Like so many others, objecting to something the Bible repeatedly and consistently calls sin is not a lack of kindness or compassion. The real lack of these qualities comes from those who refuse to recognise that behind virtually every safe sex attraction there are one or more underlying issues that actively CAUSE the attraction. Thus the attraction is a clear sign that the person needs help in some way to deal with that pain or whatever no matter how buried it may have become. True kindness and compassion is always ultimately rooted in and operates in truth, and not in some form of sentimental mush. What is written here will doubtless offend some people and I therefore hasten to add that this is not my intention, rather that I wish to help, and that over the years I've had a number of gay friends. My ire is directed at our bishops and those who refuse to walk in the truth and are determined to follow their own sinful ways rather than consider what our loving Heavenly Father tells us in his word, the Bible.

I think this issue is something that churches local to death camps for innocent babies could really make it their community outreach, especially if they linked up with Turning Point uk. I suppose you would have to decide if your outrage was being told you can't pray, or that babies were being slaughtered and you were supposed to be distracted by match of the day, or eastenders. It would be easy to think that the world is falling apart, however, evil and suffering is the norm over the centuries, Christianity created something very unusual in the west. The way to get it back is to completely lose it . If you think it's bad now, then you have a shock coming to you. The west is still living off the fat of Christianity at the moment, albeit, the ribs are showing. Every time you hear someone complain about the failing culture, just tell them, this is what godlessness is like, but be honest, godlessness is also churches that are godless meaning godless richard dawkins and godless bishops are indivisible, other than, ones condemnation will be so much worse than the other.

The GSFA will save the Anglican Communion and stop the apostasizing of the flock to Rome. There is truly a need for a Middle Way between Protestantism and Catholicism, this should be the role of the Church of England. I put the blame squarely at Welby's door!

Rev Dan, it was lovely to hear about your warm words about the Bishop from Kenya. Kenya, where homosexuality is illegal has recently allowed homosexuals freedom of association. The Archbishop Jackson Ole Sapit has called for this to be reversed by any means. He said that if Homosexuals have freedom of association they will ask not to be discriminated against and this will, to quote him directly, "eat up into the gains we have made in bringing a moral society based on values". Therefore can I ask the following questions: 1) Do you think in discriminating against Homosexuals and calling for a ban on their freedom of association the Church of Kenya is being faithful to the Bible in the same way the Church of England has abandoned the Bible by blessing them? Do you support the Anglican Church of Kenya's call to ban homosexuals meeting together? Would you support the introduction of laws to this country either banning homosexuals meeting together or legalizing discrimination against homosexuals?

There are probably couples living together who aren't married who go to church; there are divorced and remarried people in church; there are married couples who have anal and oral sex , or who use contraception. You simply cannot police people in the way you think you can. So you already are asking God to bless people who sin. So why if a gay couple wish to make a commitment to love one another is that a problem? If you want people to be free of sin before you ask for God's blessing on them there won't be a person left in church!

Where there is repentance one can bless, but where there is no repentance from sin any "blessing" is mere empty words: God will NOT fulfill words of blessing over that which he calls sin. God does not indulge in hypocrisy and neither should we.

There is a crucial misconception being expressed in these posts- priests do not bless people. They remind people of God’s blessing upon them. So it is God’s choice not the priest’s for that blessing to be made manifest

The majority of clergy who treat, read, and use our scriptures in exactly the same way a devout Muslim does his Koran, are utterly obsessed with sex: more accurately, with the sex-lives of other people. So much so that they are prepared to put the proclamation of the kerygma on hold, in order to deal with the matter. This is odd. Because it is the church which has interpreted our scriptures literally which makes no sense to contemporary people: and yet no attempt is made to make Jesus relevant to them, where they are, in the Twenty-First Century. You stick with the metaphysics which pertained two thousand years ago; instead of interpreting the Creator God of Israel (embodied in Jesus) for our times. Stop obsessing with the physical lives of others, and get on with the job of proclaiming the gospel: which is NOT about sex!
