Will the Matlock Reboot Be Successful?

Why does Hollywood insist on "remaking" everything? I'm a Kathy Bates fan, but, she's not Matlock and she's not Andy. I have given up on commercial television because nothing is new, nothing is original anymore.

Give the show a try, Faith. After watching the first episode, I believe that there are many folks that will really enjoy this new show with a familiar name.

True because Kathy is better she isn’t a racist but Andy was the amazing costume designer Jean Pierre dorec worked on the first season of matlock with him Andy was a awful person the cast kept leaving because of him

First Dave, I want to say that I see your point. Yes, Bates has played intense characters. Even so, these characters have had such varied personalities and motivations, that I've always believed that she could play any role. I have a fair amount of faith that she'll make this work. However, only time will tell. Thanks again for the video. You have me thinking!!

In a perfect world, no, but people today can be quite gullible and dont see the blatant manipulation the networks and producers are doing right in their face. For me, NOBODY will ever replace or erase Andy Griffith. Matlock is HIS character like Columbo is Peter Falk's, Perry Mason is Raymond Burr's and Jim Rockford is James Garner's etc. I'm just ready for this nightmare tv era of reboots galore to end and fresh, original shows that could be future classics can come back.

I'm about as excited for this as I was for "The Equalizer" reboot (the TV series with Queen Latifah, not the Denzel Washington movies). Not in favor of the gender swap, which seems to be in vogue with movies and television remakes/reboots recently...

I’m not really a fan of all these Hollywood reboots. I think it speaks to the lack of originality in our current society. Also not a fan of changing up characters, whether it be gender or race or whatever else. But I would never second-guess Kathy Bates’ ability to rise to the challenge. I think she is an actress who is on par with someone like Gary Oldman. They can literally play any role and make it believable.

I am gonna say no it will not because Andy Griffith did a wonderful job as Matlock but what I’m wondering is what is the storyline behind who the new Matlock is? Is it one of Ben’s grandkids?

The storyline is pretty darn original. She is not related to the Matlock TV character...but to reveal anymore would be to spoil a really fun surprise at the end of the first episode.
