I had an ex partner many years ago who when I was not complying with what he wanted would threaten to phone my parents and tell them I occasionally had smoked dope - I phoned my mum and told her myself when he did this and as it was occasionally in my youth it was never referred to again for control. My mum phoned me back asking why I'd admitted to this and I explained that yes I had but I refused to be bullied for it and as it had been occasional and in the past I needed her to know the reason for my confession. He witnessed both calls at the time but I could tell he was angry at no longer being able to use this

I never told him my fears. I don’t know why. Something was holding me back. He constantly trying to use things against me, he thinks it’s sensitive information, but it’s basic information.

This hit home. Mine used my mental illness against me. Told me that she thought I "enjoyed being ill" That the illness was in my head and I "wasn't being who I want you to be" That it was a "lifestyle" and "I've told you what you need to do, and you've done fuck all, and I am supporting you... By still being here" Over time I started to believe. And so I ended up doing more, and more, and more to try and make things up to her.

Non-narcissistic people have common decency and narcs know that empaths (in particular) don’t stoop to their level to purposely hurt others. Some narcs are psychopathic and just don’t care. Perhaps the best protection is that most countries now have laws against revenge porn, so if a narc threatens to release sensitive sexual content that you’ve shared with them, you can remind them that they can be criminally prosecuted for their actions.
