Will The New Distributor FIX it ? Bentley Special 4.9L

I was really hoping the new distributor would have fixed your engine problems i had endless problems with an old triumph engine running badly & in the end had to ohold my hands up & get someone with far more knowledge than me to fix it which he did really quickly i know it great to sort these things yourself though.If you could find an old skool independent Rolls Royce or classic specialist & just ask his advice he may point you in the right direction...just a thought ...hoping you get it sorted soon i just find your videos really entertaining great stuff 👍

I just love that car - proper "old school" Bentley special from back in the day when an old Mk6 or Type R could be bought for Morris minor money! Now that timing seems to be OK have you looked into fuel delivery/fresh fuel as detailed below. I also agree with the comment re trying to find someone with experience of sorting cars of that period when it was all done by eye and sound! Good luck with it........

I'm not familiar with these distributors but I would expect that even being an old engine it will need either mechanical or vacuum advance as the RPM increases. Figures for a four stroke engine vary but once the engine is running 2 degree PTDC is not normal. I will usually be a few degrees BTDC at idle and increase with RPM to say 15-20 degrees BTDC depending on how fast that engine runs. Low power assuming carbs are not blocked is most likely retarded ignition

I see you have a k& n filter fitted have you had the carbs rejetted as I deal with motorcycles and have seen these filters fitted and similar issues. They run but no power or top end so seems like fuel starvation.

How old is the fuel? Modern fuel is shite

Fuel is fresh , that was one of the things I did first . Emptied the tank , and only fill it with 99octance
