hi im in the uk you move the slide by putting bucket in the ground as push the arm along the slide rails just make sure rails are greased up first happy digging ,love the vids

Because there are ONLY so many hours in a day & only a limited amount of dollars you can devote to this machine, I vote that you harvest this machine for any parts you can use to improve your X model, which you have already a HUGE time, labor, & dollar investment in. Yes, I know you want to 'salvage/save' all the old iron you come across. That is a nobile idea in theory, but it's simply not possible in every case, as you have found out by now. [yes, I'm stating the obvious here, but sometimes it's necessary , so you think about it]. Also, my comments may seem a bit harsh at times, but I do appreciate the energy, drive, and focus you use to tackle these very dificult and daunting projects!

I really enjoy watching your videos. I saved this video so I can watch while I sit here on “light duty”. Yep getting paid to sit around, occasionally I get up and walk and stretch. I was involved in bus / pickup truck accident. The driver was drunk and thought he could beat the red light and transit bus. He was traveling 2-3 times the posted speed limit which is 25 mph. I’m thankful I was able to walk away from the accident. They say the driver was traveling at 50-60 miles per hour upon impact. Bus will always win.

The lucas diode might be hard to find. I would look in some of the mg or British car forums. They also used alot of lucas electric parts. Im not sure the amp draw on that circuit but you could look at something like a 1n4001 which will is good for 1 amp. There are diodes available for higher amp loads if you need them.

If this was in my wheelhouse, I wouldn’t mess around with the new machine you just brought back to the shop. I would use that machine for parts only. It’s way to clapped out and will be extremely expensive to be put back in operational order. I also think it would be beneficial to see if the extending hoe could be incorporated into your present machine. You would end up with a nicer machine overall with the 4 wheel drive and the extended hoe feature.

The ability to dig a ditch from one side or at zero clearance is extremely useful in some situations and nice to have in the toolbox so if I was going to only rebuild one I believe it would be that new one. Especially as you have an excavator if I recall correctly so that will do the straight on hoe work better than your older backhoe whereas it too cannot dig zero clearance or from one side.

I would never expect a starter armature to rotate without the nosecone bushing to support & locate it.

one thing i can recommend is an ultrasonic bath. some are super tiny. you can just throw stuff in them with water and dishsoap and it saves you a lot of break cleaner (and is much friendlier to the environment). :)

Should really invest into a hose crimping machine, I bought a used one, and it's paid for itself very quickly (especially as much as you are going to use it working on these machines).

@@SalvageWorkshop They are handy, but unless you have a lot of hose ends (and matching dies) on the shelf (which costs a LOT of money to stockpile) it's arguably not worth the price. We have several on our farm, but that's because: a) we got them (and the stock of hose ends) dirt cheap, and b) we live a LONG way (think 2.5 hours drive each way) from the nearest place we can get hoses made. Not saying don't do it, but do your sums first. It may only be worth having a limited stock of hose ends/sizes to suit a few very common fittings on your machines, and still getting the larger/more unusual stuff made up for you.

A friend of mine made himself a set to be used on his press and he reused all the old fitting by cutting off the tube that's crimped and welding a new piece on he is a proper farmer and pays for as little as possible. He assures me he's not had a blow out in 6 years of doing this.

The item that’s between the fuel tank and the radiator is a diesel heater for cold starting. I have a 50hx in the UK.

On the new relay that does not work. Try hooking the ground from your battery box to the other small terminal. That relay may not have the ground through the body. Some snow plow relays are build that way.

Your troubleshooting and mechanical skills are absolutely some of the best. I would use the parts off this 50 and install them on the 50X model at least the ones that would fit. Only a suggestion you know whats best for you.

I used to be a Massey tech so not the biggest fan of their products but the 50 series are outstanding industrial loaders and I wouldn't hesitate to get one of the hydrostatic versions

It makes me so happy to see these old massey backhoes get some TLC. I’m sure I said it on a video from your other backhoe, but I LOVE these massey backhoes built on their industrial tractors. The solenoid you drill out the 4 rivets remove the cap & you got access to everything inside ! I have redone many in my younger years & They used to come with nuts & bolts to hold the bottom on Just make sure you use minimal silicon to reseal it as moisture kills them ! Personally, I would put the hood back on the new back hoe, take the starter off and return it to the other back hoe and park the new back hoe and keep it for a parts tractor. I am really enjoying your channel, keep up the good work. Sam

The diode number RD 953048 is showing it is a 1 amp car light diode for a MGB / GT or a triumph stag cars this is what the part number you have given comes out with hope it helps you.

A lot of KZbinrs use a rust remover called Vapo-Rust. You put it in the inside of a rusty fuel tank. Let it sit overnight, and then empty it out revoming the now rusty Vapo-Rust ( it's still useable many times over). Clean out the tank with water. Repeat the process until the rust inside the tank begins to diminish. Some KZbinrs put nuts & bolts or anything sharp inside the tank, shake it well. the nuts & bolts or the sharp objects will help the Vapo-Rust in removing the rust a lot quicker. It works quite well too.

I couldn't find much on the diode. It is a 1 amp, 50 volt diode. Any diode with the same rating should work perfectly fine. As far as I can tell, these were only sold in the UK, so if you are going to find them, it will have to be from a UK source. I did manage to find one available from the UK for $9.99GBP on Ebay. You will be looking at $25 shipping from the UK.

I have a 40hp late 60s Massey industrial flat fender. Ole guy is old but it keeps going. Make it a winter project, buy a few hoses at a time, and you being a good wrench turner you'll have a nice machine.

You need to buy a used hose making machine and buy a lot of closing sale hydraulic shop sale ., if your rods are ok you can do the seals , you have enough gear to do all repairs . Great for video content .
