It’s strange that they announced the Phoenix series set for July before this book was released. We already know Jean and the Phoenix will be fine based on announcements Marvel made last week.

One thing you called, @Ernie, was the way they take Krakoa's resurrection protocols off the table for a while. We see Hope stay behind in Krakoa Atlantic/The White Hot Room with the Krakoans, and they're considered stranded with the Craddle. That Krakoa island is now inert, core Krakoa is with Apocalypse and Krakoa Pacific is as inert as Atlantic so the components to make resurrection work properly will be considered indefinitely separated. Mutants are carrying on in Krakoa, with the separation being further than a flight or boat ride, and the combat trained X-Men (and villains) are outside of it. THIS is the type of ending to the Krakoa era I was referring to when I said we can have the nation of Krakoa exist with the main protagonists and antagonsists barred from it, and do exactly what they're doing with the next phase spread out across the US and the world.

@@monroerodriguez Yeah, the comics themselves stated that there are backups to each of the Five, but I suspect one of three ways they could claim it doesn't work without some component. 1. May be that without certain specific mutants the exactness is off just enough to be too risky 2. They may mess up the back up process (Otherworld-type shenanigans) 3. They may claim the Krakoa Islands going inert messes with the eggs Who knows, maybe they may let it stick around but in a scaled down capacity.

I lost interest in the X - titles over 15 years ago and only jumped back on with the Krakoa arc. The concept that the are the "A" team of a persecuted species is much more engaging to me than the angle that they are "the anti-establishment Avengers with more soap operas." I'm keeping an open mind to what's ahead but right off the top the writers of new core books don't bring up confidence in me the way that Hickman or Gillen do. Fingers crossed.

You know... It's kind of funny... In the rush to get to the brand refresh meant to invoke X-Men '97, they hitting all of the pratfalls that made causal readers drop off of reading X-Men in the first place (convoluted reading order, overload of bombastic moments so nothing breathes, the mutant metaphor getting lost in the aesthetics rather than the social issues they're meant to invoke)

I'm not a Phoenix-hater, but why can the writers not *permanently* decouple Jean Grey from Phoenix? At this point, they are just one in the same, and the writers should stop splitting them apart. It's CLEAR that that's what they want. I don't agree with it as I personally like Jean Grey more without the Phoenix, but all roads lead back to her being bonded with it. So just retcon her completely, one time, and say it's always her and always be her and STOP with the back and forth.

I don't mind Jean as the Phoenix in the least, but I see the reason why they're always tempted to decouple them then end up reuniting them. On the one hand, they want Jean (an OG) to be among the mutants, but if she's Phoenix imbued then whoever she's around don't have any real lower level threats (therefore, decouple). Then, they need the Phoenix (or some other great power) to deal with the higher level threats they want to put them against occasionally AND introducing the X-Men to general audiences in other media often comes with a rehashing of the old hits, so presto: Jean reunites with the Phoenix. Which brings us to what they're trying now with her being in deep space for a while. She can face beings of the power level convincing enough to put the protagonist in true peril, without all the supporting cast just being useless hangers-on, by separating her from the X-Men. Then with enough damage dealing with something that will limit her power, but still make her Phoenix, eventually she'll be able to return to the fold (I presume).

I shouldn't really get into this conversation, but I feel like "it's difficult to continue caring about this Era" because Marvel already said it was ending, ending rapidly, and are on to advertising the next era. That said, I remember a ton of people complaining about the Krakoa era when it started, so people should give things a chance, but it's easy to see why people care, especially this era in comics where we have influencers that contribute to the hype of current comics.

They set things up to make that not an option. Apocalypse is rescuing Krakoa-"prime", Krakoa-Atlantic is stuck in the White Hot Room and went inert to achieve Sinister's transportation feat, and Krakoa-Pacific as the receiving end of that transport will be just as inert. The way to have Krakoa continue as a nation, but also not have the heroes there anymore is by closing off access (for now).

I net you most of the mutants of color are the ones going to he stuck in the white hot room. They are only taking back the ' combat' mutant. Which kills me that the ones that came there to be safe are now the ones that are trapped in a pocket world. It feels they ar ethe ones getting the short end of the stick. So are we saying the whole Krakoa era is kind of ending on a whimper? I'll admit..the Powers of X has been a blast but it feels like it either took too long to tell it's stories or the brand fell under pressure for the typical X reset that seems to happen every half decade. I feel like they started of with some interesting threads that went nowhere in a lot of the books. Everything got constantly overtaken by these big shock and awe moments. They were at times all over the place with characters and probably overused time travel/alternate reality situations too much. I personally felt like the whole Moira situation was just..totally out of character. It seems like they are trying to deliver the on the purpose of Hope summers..but she's still feels like a side note to Jean Grey. I'm personally over Mr Sinister...who has just become a big MacGuffin. Hey atleast Rouge and Gambit got married...
