The problem with this type of attack is that it gives the amateurs ideas. This exact pattern happened after stuxnet: the worm is released in Iran. People all over the world study it. Suddenly, entire classes of industrial machinery become vulnerable. You're gonna get copycats. Oh, and airport security is going to be even more arduous.

I will politely beg to point out that the situation in Ukraine is quite different. I will detail them below and also a disclaimer, my wife is from Ukraine so I have learned alot of its history from her. All info provided below can be checked via google. While I don't blame Russia 100% like most ukrainians including my wife. I personally assign the blame for the Ukraine war as 10% ukraine, 50% Russia and 40% USA. The common belief is that Russia has been provoked by the none stop expansion of NATO since USSR collapse and Ukraine was the final straw that broke the camel's back. Here are some timelines. 1989 Berlin Wall comes down 1990-91 Eastern bloc starts separating from USSR Dec 1991 USSR collapse 1990 during the Eastern bloc separation, russia used ethnic russian being mistreated in Moldovia as excuse to carve out Transnistria, a slice of land between Moldovia and Ukraine. Suspected reason is Transnistria is the site of massive soviet era weapons and ammunition storage. 1991 Russia instigates South Ossetia to break away from Georgia again stating ethnic Russians were being mistreated by Georgians. 1991 Russia threatened Ukraine and forced Ukraine to lease Sevastopol to Russia, this was later extended in Kharkiv pact to 2042. 1994 First Russo Chechen war starts, because Chechnya wanted full independence. 1994 Ukraine gives up its entire 3500 nuclear arsenal under pressure from USA and Russia. Budapest memorandum signed by UK, USA, Russia and Ukraine for all parties to recognize and protect territorial integrity of Ukraine. 1997 first time Czechia, Hungary and Poland starts discussion with NATO about joining. 1999 Second Chechen war starts. 1999 Poland, Czechia, Hungary joins Nato. 2008 Russo Georgian war starts, Georgia loses more territory to Russia and South Ossetia. 2009 First time talks about Ukraine joining NATO starts. Between 1990 and 2014 at least 3 Ukrainian politicians were poisoned via Polonium. (you know who's fav method) 2014 US interferes in regime change in Ukraine but this was built on organic momentum due to government at the time's preparation to pass laws to closely integrate Ukraine and Russia (ala Belarus, essentially a protectorate of Russia). 2022 full scale invasion of Ukraine commence. During the initial week of invasion, Russian Kremlin news paper publishes an editorial, gloating about the impending reincorporation of Ukraine into Russia and claiming there is no such thing as a Ukrainian nationality. No where in this article was a complaint about NATO encroachment. This article was taken down within 24hrs. As you can see Russia's acts of aggression towards its former territories / member states started before NATO expansion. It is my humble opinion that the desire to join NATO by former eastern bloc nations and ukraine are rooted in a fear of Russia doing the same to them as Chechnya, Georgia, Moldova. This has been proven correct since 2014 when invasion of Donbas, Crimea and Luhansk started. In conclusion, while I blame Ukraine for not playing the situation with a Machiavellian cunning to balance between USA and Russia. The bulk of the blame rests in Russia and USA. Russia for its aggression and obvious desire to reincorporate Ukraine in Russia proper ala Belarus. And blame for USA for befriending Ukraine and yet not doing enough to protect her, giving just enough aid to keep the war going and killing of both Russians and Ukrainians continuing.

The soldier you se, are Ukrainian soldiers, from Ukraine, deciding they had enough and switching side. Crimea transfer was done in 4 days. Less then 10 deaths, and it was Ukr on Ukr action. An invasion would have taken months or years. The transfer of Crimea took 4 days.

There was at least one valid reason. I'm not familiar enough with the situation to know the others. You don't list any, which aligns with the "Russia's war of aggression" line of reasoning. But compare Russian invasions to US invasions, proxy wars, blatant theft, overthrown governments, etc. Russia looks like a saint in comparison. If invasions are evil, then you should hate the United States. Unfortunately, the US pulls the strings and the Western world dances, media outlets included. Russia and China are pretty much humanity's only hope at this point.
