The shadow over the Labour Govt. will be the Grave Stones of the elderly who will die this winter because of their complete lact of empathy for their own people whilst they make sure others are warm and well fed, along with other perks!!! I am 81, just taken my little dogs out in the bitter cold, and have now put my heating on IN ONE ROOM !!! for a little comfort. My only income is £201.30 per week, so my savings; a enough for a funeral or maybe any care I might need leading to my demise, which I have been carefully saving whilst I worked (I was 78 when Covid ended my working life) will melt away like the snow that has fallen this morning. Each persons' history is different, and this is a tiny insight to the lives of so many of us who are so obviously dispensable to the Govt. And people sitting in a nice warm studio discussing the plight of those who are beinge shafted makes me angry, because you will all go away to have lunch somewhere in a little bistro with outrageous food with outragious prices! and forget half of what you spouted on about!!! Well said. Thankfully I am just about OK with my income not to (at this time at least) have to worry. But I appreciate that many people are not as comfortable as I am - and don't get me wrong, I have about £100 excess per month after I've paid my bills etc. So any real increase in fuel costs or anything else, then I too will be worrying. Most pensioners have worked all their lives and have paid into the system, expecting to be able to live out their last years in some comfort. This government are quite despicable in the way they are treating the pensioners, the students, small and large businesses and now the farmers. Where will it end?

Whilst I sympathize with the expense of housing today, it is not the elderly who are responsible for prices being out of reach of their children or their grandchildren. There are ways to avoid paying the IHT. If you do end up paying it is 20% over £1m in assets and you have 10 years to pay the bill. This is as opposed to regular people that pay 40% over £325k on their estate, £500k if you also own a property but only have 6 months to pay the tax bill. Yes the farmers now are not exempt and have to pay but it is generous compared to the average person. This bloke defending the position of government highlights here the best possible position but doesn't consider the worst position. The key difference between people like myself and farmers is that they are running a business and ordinary folks aren't. The future of their business is dependent on being able to pass the business on without inheritance tax. After all, big business is not subject to inheritance tax because it's publicly owned. This creates an unfair advantage to corporates to remain large and keep growing whilst impairing family run businesses.

The most conservative figures put the number of deaths as a consequence of over 4,000 and that is the bottom end. This year, the Winter is set to be cooler than the last few years of winters and this will make a difference to those that are just over the threshold for pension credit. Remember pensioners will get an increase in April that will take some people out of pension credit which will put further people at risk. Nature's early indicators probably put this winter in progress close to being one of the worst in the last 14 years. We'll have to see, but that is nature for you. There are indicators and with the last coal fired power station closing, the reduction in cloud production close to where we live will result in lower average temperatures in our area. We do live in rural Britain and temperatures are several degrees lower than in large towns and cities.

The actual pension credit application is not that complicated. What is complicated is the inevitable denial which I’m told is standard operating procedure. I can attest to this because I applied and got a 3 page series of 12 questions which where very intimidating and very personal .

I’ve got the small gas ring on and stay in the kitchen all day. Then at night my electric blanket is on at 8pm
