In this weeks discussion, we talk about the possibility that it may not be Daenerys Targaryen that destroys King's Landing. There are two other characters who have the potential to bring the city to ash... or so some argue. Jon Connington, Lord of Griffin's Roast, and Queen Regent Cersei Lannister, Light of the West, might be the ones that brings the capital city ro ruins. They switched roles between cersei and Daenerys before filming season 8. Cersei's original ending was changed, Lena Headey admitted that she was supposed to have a miscarriage and it would've affected her character going forward. Cersei was supposed to go mad because she would've realized that the Maggy the frog prophecy was true.

D&D confirmed that they came up with dany burning kingslanding. It isn't something that GRRM told them and Dany intentionally killing a bunch of innocent people goes against her entire character. You bring up ned's death and the red wedding as examples or "pushing the envelope" but those are just events that are there so things aren't as easy for the main characters like Jon and Dany. If anyone is going to be a darker character in the story moving forward its Jon not Dany. Cersei is the only parallel to Rhaenyra in the story and is more likely to get killed by tyrion after she flees to the rock when Aegon takes kingslanding. A battle for the iron throne is not going to be the last thing to happen like in the show. that stuff isn't really relevant any more and Dany will have more important things to deal with.

They didn't say that. They said they weren't originally going to do it. She burns Astapor and every non-slave above the age of 12. Dragonflame sticks to kids. She also sacks Meereen right after. At least she put a stop to the pillaging after the battle was won unlike Rob. Dany isn't some boring good guy I think it's clearly foreshadowed that she's going to burn people and grow more and more paranoid.

I think Dany will accidentally trigger the wildfire Cersei had under the city and she will be blamed and viewed the Mad Queen despite going out of her way to save the city (This is just imo my opinion because she has always striked me as a tragic hero). Either it was completely accidental, Dany did it for "the greater good" to fight off the white walkers, or it could've been Cersei's plan all along to set her up.

She wants the House with the Red Door, she craves for a place called home, but when she achieves that, she feels unsatisfied. She always chooses to push for the iron throne and that will be her undoing because she will not find a home in Westeros. She will not be welcome there. That will push her to rage and frustration and the eventual destruction of King's Landing. @@lonemotheomatshaba9640 There is a system in place that does not favor the women in Westeros. Even those of the nobility. It's the reason why Cersei is denied rulership of Casterly Rock. Same reason why Asha Greyjoy is overlooked as a possible Queen regnant of the Iron Isles. It's just terribly unfair for women in Westeros (and in other parts of this world Martin has created which mimics our own real world). There does seem to be an unfair balance for the women of House Targaryen but that is likely because the Targs are overly documented in the stories that are published. All of their triumphs (and tragedies) get highlighted because Martin spends a whole lot of time writing about them. We would see similar disparities if we learned more about the other Houses. That being said... if you feel Martin is not the best at writing women in this series, that is a valid feeling to have. He does have flaws in that area that can be talked about in depth. Dany might be the last woman of House Targaryen but that does not guarantee she is set for a victory we might all approve of or be happy with. When Martin first wrote Daenerys, she was the first Targaryen and not the last.

I personally have faith GRRM has the talent to avoid a basic af “two mad queens” story. Cersei is not only hinted as *the* mad queen, she’s compared to Aerys by people who knew him pretty well, including Jaime. JonCon had the bells trauma, is losing his mind because of greyscale, and wishes he burnt down a city. And he’s IN Westeros with Young Griff, a boy who hasn’t ruled anything (book smart not street smart) and thinks Cersei isn’t a threat because she’s a woman 😂 he’s going to have a rude awakening. I’m doubtful a huge swath of Westeros will embrace him, and that’s an argument people use for Dany turning mad. In Arianne’s sample chapter, his soldiers are already r*ping and pillaging, and his advisers have told him multiple times he needs Dany for legitimacy. He was too impatient to invade Westeros to wait for her. Dany is still dealing with a ton of stuff in Essos, and she hasn’t even reached Volantis. There’s some tunnel vision with the analysis of her arc imo. Unless Dany decides to teleport to KL and burn it down so everyone else keeps their hands clean, I don’t even think she’ll even be in Westeros when the city goes up in flames. GRRM doesn’t do fast travel like D&D. People like to act like Dany’s genes are going to “switch” to madness but to me GRRM doesn’t seem like the type of author to be a biological determinist. His favorites are the dreamers and people fighting the good fight, he’s written a story on slavery needing to end with fire and blood (I mean a story not associated with ASOIAF). I just don’t see him turning the one main character that’s trying to end that institution into Aerys 2.0. I’ve also heard he works off his original outline from the early 90s where all 5 main POV characters survive (guess who those are?), not that I think Dany will take the Iron Throne, but I also don’t think she’s going to get put down like a dog. If she dies, I think it’ll be against the Others and as a hero. Her arc is so clearly leading to Jon, whether romantic or as an ally in the fight for the Dawn. Dany is driven by a genuine sense of duty (which is obvious to anyone who reads the books in good faith), and she isn’t even as ruthless as her contemporaries-most of her problems come from using her dragons too little and compromising with the slavers, not from being too brutal. She’s facing the institution of slavery, it can’t be fought like a Westerosi war with honorable knights (so honorable they enjoy a good r*pe and pillage of the smallfolk as long as it’s Westerosi men doing it, but that’s another topic lol). Think about what Tywin has done in his life, what would he do in Dany’s situation? How many people would he kill? No one thinks he’s mad, but a 15 year old girl gets the harshest judgment of her mental state and every action she takes. I think lots of people in the fandom can’t conceive of a sane Dany ending because of the show or because the “woman goes mad with power” trope is common in fantasy. That just tells me GRRM won’t go that route with her. He’s not going to subvert expectations by loading his story with multiple people representing the same trope. For every quote used to justify her going mad, there’s plenty showing the opposite. We can only hope GRRM finishes the books because I can’t wait for how shocked people will be when it’s nothing like the common theories that get regurgitated everywhere.

personally i don’t even think Cersei will be in KL during Dany’s invasion. we are for certain going to have a POV character at Casterly Rock in TWOW. i’m of the opinion that character will be Cersei. i think she’ll flee when Griff takes the city. where her story goes after that im not sure, but i think Jaime will end up being her killer. that would fulfill the valonquar prophecy.

Sorry bro but a character who cares so much for the lives of innocents, that would lock up her own dragons just because a child was burned alive, that would free slaves everywhere she goes and give every single one the option of following her or being free doesnt strike me as a character who would on a whim start massacring innocent men women and children. Not to mention all of danys prophecies hint at her destiny being one to face the Others and protect the innocent. She has barely, if ever been hinted at as being deranged or bloodthirsty or some bs like that. Having a character suddenly do a 180 and become a completely different character isnt "daring" its just a lazy attempt to "subvert expectations" the people who dont like this theory arent just stupid and uncreative, we just know what consistent writing, set up and payoff and character arcs are. Also side note, asoiaf isnt as subversive and daring as you think, almost all of the fantasy trope subversions in the series simply just amount to George doing the opposite of the trope. Also, just because someone doesnt agree with you doesnt mean they lack creativity or imagination or are stupid. Thats a pretty immature way to get your point across, I get the point you were trying to make but it came off as a really sleezy dig at the other side.

I never said or insinuated anyone was stupid. Please do not put words in my mouth. I will maintain that certain theories are uncreative or lacking in imagination. That's fair criticism. I wouldn't be surprised or offended if someone said the same of my theories. Daenerys doesn't have to become "deranged" or "bloodthirsty" in order to kill innocents. A Mad Monarch that commits mass murder doesn't have to look like a villain. Martin said himself he wasn't interested in a story where the bad guys are ugly and wear black and the good guys are pretty and wear white. All Daenerys needs is to believe killing innocents will be the right thing to do. I don't think Dany destroying King's Landing is her doing a 180. I think she's been on this course since book one. She can fight the Others and still become a villain in the end. She wouldn't be the first character to go from hero to villain. But she might be the first where that journey has been hidden so well.

I disagree that the alternate theories are uncreative, they generally have more evidence than the dany theory and are quite well thought out for the most part. Now I personally dont believe you did mean that but your wording definitely could have been less harsh. It came off as insulting at the very least. Im not gonna get hung up on it, if you didnt mean any of it like then so be it, I apologise, im not gonna unsub or anything I still love your content. George could make danys switch organic and believable sure. My point was that as things are right now, all signs point to the opposite. If it is a hidden thing bubbling beneath the surface then the story is going to have to address it asap because time is running out and so far no set up has really begun for it, besides her moment in the dothraki sea, which is still questionable as to how much more ruthless she'll become after those visions. It might not be deranged or bloodthirsty but it'll be something pretty damn close, shes pretty sane, rational and compassionate so for someone like that to do an act so evil, what would you say would need to be the driving factor(s) behind it? I'm open to hearing more reasoning because im not that much of a dany fan to where im in denial, if I can see the reasoning more clear then ill be into it, I trust Georges writing. I know George likes to say how his story is all grey and nobody is truly evil or good but his words dont match up so well with the actual story. Joffrey, ramsey, euron, maegor and so many others literally have zero redeeming qualities. In fact, the acts they commit are often far worse than what characters like sauron or voldemort have done. On the other hand, Jon, brienne, bran and some others have nothing but redeeming qualities. Their flaws are usually just things like being naive or too honorable or not cold hearted enough. Not the type of traits that would make someone a grey character. Just because his villains dont live in giant castles and look like Sauron (who is far more complex than people give him credit for), doesnt mean they arent 100% villainous. I think a lot of fans think asoiaf is much deeper than it actually is, it is a masterpiece of fiction dont get me wrong but like I said, its subversions usually boil down to just doing the opposite of a fantasy trope and its characters are more black and white than fans care to admit. I mean the story is literally leading up to a fight between all of westeros and the Others, a fight that could be argued as very reminiscent of a "good vs evil" trope. The others are definitely good though since like 95% of westerosi seem to be just outright despicable people. Turning the world into a frozen hellscape would be a mercy lol.

I wouldn't be opposed to Dany doing it on accident. But I think that if she does it on accident it should do something twisted. Like cause the people of Westeros to not accept her and accept Young Griff instead or something. I've always liked the idea that the Starks and Lannisters both wind up in kimd of terrible positions. For all their claims of not being distracted by Southern politics even the Starks ultimately committed to a war. They both sure do seem to be in fact distracted from the coming end of the world except John. Even then only sort of.

I think the "accident" theory also leads into Dani still dying in the end, as a way to fulfill the Azhor Ahai prophecy. It moves the battle with the others to after the King's Landing battle, and because she's so horrified by what she does that she willingly fulfills NissaNissa's role. However, I do think it's more likely that she goes full dark, and it makes more sense/isn't as abrupt in the books because we see her internality more than we did in the show. If we see her flambé a few POV characters instead of Sam's terrible dad and (narratively) useless brother, it will help underscore the darkness. Like if she has her babies murder Arianne or JonCon? That would be full horror show, and even if she can justify it in her narration, we *know* those characters.

I only mentioned the reverse because I think it’s the only way I’ve ever seen the “dany accidentally does a KL war crime” theory that makes any sense, but while I don’t think the show did right by the books I do think their order of events (Whitewalkers, then KL) is how things will play out.

GRRM likes smashing tropes, and we all expect Daenerys to more or less liberate Westeros and things to get better from either Cersei Lannister's mismanaged tyranny or Aegon's usurpation, when it might just be one more tyrannical/crazy conquest with Daenerys ruling over charred bones and ruins, if she does want to break the wheel as she says in the show, the same way in the books, then destroy King's Landing and everything in it that drives people mad for power. Or, to be a little more in line with the show. Cersei, Dany and Aegon all die in their attempts and leave Kings Landing in ruins for the survivors to elect Bran as king.

King Tyrion, a Greyjoy sibling, Queen Sansa, King Robin probably, King limpy-what’s- his-name in Highgarden, Queen Arianna probably or Prince Gerold (her husband), and probably a Baratheon kid Maya? or Arya’s fling or maybe Robin… making the Burnedman King of the Vale

Before I finish this video I will say she will end like that. Just look at what she's doing. Killing innocents yeah. But will consider this that dragon fire and fire plus wild fire isn't very safe. So it might just happen during battle.

The fandom needs to be better not falling into binary “either or” statments. “black or green”, “Nightking or Jon Snow”, “Selmy or Vic”, etc. GRRM isn’t using “Red herrings “, he’s using “Pink Salmons” clues. “Jojen paste is actually pink salmon a clue that there is a underground river from the sinkhole to Winterfell. Anyway for this, everyone is assuming Cercei or Jon Con or Daenerys will be “the one” who burns Kingslanding next chance, this is wrong for multiple reasons. For Jon Con, GRRM is first trolling with Jon Con wanting to be like Tywin; everyone thinks “Bells” and “ruthless“, but next “battle” Jon just gets invited in like Tywin at Robert’s Rebellion under gold banners. Aegon’s forces will switch to Targ banners and take the city as peacefully as possible. Gregor was sent to kill Bron and family (also Tyrion who isn’t actually there) and he won’t be there to protect Cercei nor keep the men loyal to Cercei. Cercei is left alive with Tommen in the tower, Tommen will jump after realizing why Aegon took over so peacefully around then, probably; (or later after Cercei blows the sept, see below). No explosions yet! When Daenerys arrives, she doesn’t attack but treat with Aegon. The “Slayer of Lies” fulfills the “Oedipus theme saga” and accuses Aegon of being false, despite warnings by Selmy and her other SERVANTS. Her servants and Aegon’s servants, who know each other, will validate Aegon’s identity (maybe reveal Daenerys’ bastard status, Aegon won’t care and recognizes her despite it) and Selmy and crew will flock to the “rightful” (it’s complicated…. Really complicated) king. Aegon, thanks to Tyrion’s chess game, will demand “his” dragons (the eggs belonged to him first but men can’t hatch eggs not even as babies in cribs, but regardless he’s king so… king wanty). Aegon go “fooosh”, like a slavemaster, as does most of Aegon’s retinue EXCEPT Jon Con, who goes down a well causing a plague. Minor explosions, probably the buildings that Tyrion thinks about burning. Vic and Selmy jump from a parapet into fire as the “brotherhood without bannisters “ trope, foreshadowing Sandor and Gregor. Kingslanding NOT burned to the ground, Sept fine. Daenerys leaves for the North, sometime later, leaving a Castilian; Cercei still in tower, Tommen might be alive but I doubt it. Fake Euron (long story, you won’t believe me but Euron died at Sam’s hands), Gregor, and Jon Con join forces to retake Kingslanding for Cercei. THIS is “the battle of the Bells” for Jon Con. This is also the burning of the Sept. (maybe Tommen’s reason for jumping). Lots of explosions, but Kingslanding still mostly okay, Sept toasted. Daenerys will die in childbirth and come back alive, as Lyanna did, with a bloodthirst for vengeance. Ayra dealt with the “Nightking”, (simplified, but it’s complicated) and Daenerys will go south after Cercei. “Foooosh” finally goes Kingslanding. Cercei jumps as Tommen did, Jaime does his best “Spiderman” but Cercei did her best “Gwen Stacy” (Tyrion is the “Green Goblin”, the Wyldfire bombs are “Pumpkin bombs”). “Girl of Ashes”, rules it until Jon Snow kills her. Drogon “doubletaps” Kingslanding, melting the throne. Bran rules until the seven kingdoms become seven Kingdoms (Queendoms).
