Just a comment about insurance. I moved here from Englewood Florida down south near the Gulf in September two days before hurricane Ian hit. I had renewed my policy in July and while very expensive it's saved me. Our area got hit and my house and barn needed extensive exterior repairs and minor interior repairs. Every single carport in the area was demolished. I only got my settlement this month, but because I was heavily insured it will cover all the money that I used to repair my property. Once I received the settlement amount I was so grateful that I had over insured. It still did not cover some of the cost of cleaning up the trees on the property. But I still felt blessed that I had what I had. When I moved up here I did buy flood and sinkhole insurance because of the changing conditions in the weather. I don't regret that either. True sinkholes occur next to the ponds and marshes in general and I am next to a pretty large marshy area. And even though I am up on a 10-foot retaining wall I have no regrets about buying insurance I may need

Good mention! I hope you will share other details about the costs of living in "Paradise". I am entertaining the thought of retiring in Fl; but on a fixed income, and single. I know the villages would be impossible for me to obtain....so, I'm looking and learning! Thank you.

@@Nick-kc9mz it's really apples and oranges. My property down south was 5 Acres with three buildings including an expensive Barn. My daughter live there and was a horse trainer. So we had insurance that was extensive because of the cost of the three buildings. My insurance cost down there with absolutely everything included including flood and hurricane was about $11,000 a year. My insurance up here in the villages on the other hand is still expensive for a 2000 square foot home at just over $6,000, but in comparison feels like a deal. Now I did add hurricane, flood and sinkhole insurance which is why the cost is higher. But after my experience down south I felt necessary

What a funny show! I can't wait to see that review of the e-trike!! Trikes like that, but not e ones, were all the rage in Florida retirement communities in the 70s when my grandparents retired to Deerfield Beach. We had fun riding them when we were teens. Linda, don' worry about referring to the police as "cops". When I was a lot younger a police captain told me that the word goes back to English bobbies & stands for 'Constable On Patrol'. Jerry, a prison guard was strolling past the cells on death row where a woman was to be executed the next morning. He asked her what she wanted for her last meal & she replied, "I don't know. What do you want to have?"

My nephew is a firefighter. Most fire depts are busier than you know and serving their community. I locked myself out of my second floor condo. Firefighters came on my deck, into my unit and opened my door. I live in a suburb of St. Louis. We have wonderful guys and gals serving. You might want to visit a Fire House. Firefighters love to share and prevent fires. In some places, they'll put a new fire alarm for you! Some provide alarms for seniors. I may be prejudiced about firefighters, but they are some of the nicest people I have met. They are public servants and heroes.

FYI - you are so right about the fire department who will come to help Villagers who fall and cannot get up ! My neighbr, across the street from me, has had to use them a lot, unfortunately. Her husband told me that it takes 3 firemen to get his wife up ! - one on each side of her to help lift her and then another fireman to stand in front of her with his feet and body blocking her feet so she won't just slide forward and not be able to be able to get balanced on her feet so that she can stand up !

Hi Jerry and Linda, I was fortunate enough last week to visit some friends in Juno/West Palm Beach area last week to enjoy some of those 80 degree days. As you were talking about your community with gates instead of a gated community and people being able to just push the button and drive through. I’ve been there, I remember. If there are any vagrants, bag lady’s or anyone in the Juno/ Palm Beach area, the police will pick them up and post there picture on a website. No place to park. No free loading. The residents pay a lot for their way of life. They also have the”poop bags” for your dog too.😂

On a serious note a friend of mine just told me she had to call the fire dept to help get her dad up after a fall. She tried and her mom was too frail. They came and picked him right up like he was a toddler she said. I had no idea you could call and ask for help for this. I told her although they didn't put out a fire that time, that must be such a good feeling to help someone in their capacity within the community. 💜💜

Jerry, speaking of flood insurance, the FL legislature recently passed a bill requiring ALL FL homeowners' insurance policies to include mandatory flood insurance, beginning 1/1/26 or 1/1/27. (Can't remember which of those years.) This will raise insurance premiums even more! And I'm in north FL and have never needed flood insurance in the 33 years I've lived in my house! Time to self-insure for me, I guess...

It is Tuesday @ 1145pm pacific time. I laughed so hard with your comedy skit with Jerry falling. Now that was funny. My feelings go up and down in trying to decide if I want to move from WA state to Florida. You guys seem to be enjoying retirement and meeting all the people who come to TV. But you guys are a couple and are always doing stuff with other couples. I am single and I know there is singles that live there. I want to get to meet people and enjoy all the activities that you can do at TV. But I am afraid that TV is better fit for couples than singles . I use to live on cumberland island ga and had business in st Mary’s. They began allowing golf carts. I always wondered about where that was headed. Any way to make a buck- tags etc. insurance also I suppose- you should see kids hanging off back and on roads with vehicles ,,,, safety issue . It would be a hit for your community, im sure. I can see where that would be a big selling point to be able to drive your golf cart.

Up until around 2004 you couldn’t drive your golf cart after dark.
