I feel badfor the couple also. I wish them better times. That sort of describes me also. I am a bit younger than the typical person who moves here and people say hi to me, but that’s it usually. I go to many activities and invite people out to coffee or iced tea but they always have a reason not to go usually such as they need to go home to their spouse or they’re busy. I am also a solo here at The Villages and that is unusual. Not looking for romance, but when you don’t have a spouse, they usually don’t want to get know you . Joined many activities, about to give up and feeling down at the villages. 😢

Are you on Facebook? Do you belong to any of the Villages Facebook groups? We have seen posts like yours many times. And if those people get on Facebook and make a post for instance, that says "I haven't made many friends here yet, I would like to play cards. Does anyone have an opening?" Or maybe you could say "I would like to find someone to get coffee with in the morning would anyone meet me at McDonald's?" I bet you would get some takers. There is nothing wrong with trying to help yourself.

@@JERRYANDLINDA yes I’m a member from Facebook groups and clubs and I did try to post but I’m not sure how to always do that properly I didn’t really get a reply that someone could meet. I gave up on the Facebook idea, I don’t see that people in the club check it is often or know how to use it to reply. Thanks for the idea. I have to think of something else.

Sorry to hear that... it's sad that people are so closed off ...and not willing to meet a range of new people... many have their "type" and don't veer from that... esp as they age... I also think some people think divorce is contagious and are afraid they'll catch it if they are around a divorced person...

Bob and Betty, this is our 2nd home in TV. Neither one had "Welcome etc etc" out front. That kinda burst my bubble but it wasn't a deal breaker. We also had the same experience with neighbors but then again, they were new and also moving in so everyone was kinda busy doing that. What you have to do is take the initiative and when you see them outside, go and introduce yourselves. Don't let that discourage you. Oh, Welcome to the Villages! 😊

Good evening Jerry , Linda and Gizmo. Had a crazy day from 7 this morning with the car in the shop for servicing ending in $415. Just home now at 9pm and finally relaxing to watch and enjoy. Keeping the comments short today. What a lovely SWEET comment. The SALTY 🤦‍♀️. Taken with a grain of salt 🧂. Yes. Need the bloopers 😂. Great question about the 29 yr old. I would think if the home is left to the 29yr old child; if he/she cannot stay re:age requirements that he/she would be allowed to sell. Agree it would be cheaper to eat at home. We love to eat out. After the car servicing we went to the diner and it was $56 with tax. You guys always encourage research. It’s nice to be told info but responsible to get it straight from the source. Sorry about the email from the new villager feeling unwelcomed. It only takes one bad apple. Nice of you to reach out to them so they can meet kind folks. Omg. Look at the cute 🪱. What do they eat? Always appreciate the pics and shout outs. Oh Gizmo. Rolex and Timex 😂. Captain and nestle crunch 😂. Have a great week and see you on Thursday 🤗

The Villages is so big and seems to be getting bigger every day. It's daunting to start anything new and moving to a new state is stressful. We're not Villagers; and I would call us introverts so I imagine that we would join a few clubs and attend some events but it's hard. I always say it's like we're back in the school yard or cafeteria hoping to get picked for a game or asked to join for lunch.

We had the same experience when we moved from Minnesota to Texas, our 2 fur babies did not want to walk on the grass, in Minnesota we pull out St Agustine grass because it is considered a weed, however our St Augustine yard is thick and beautiful here in Texas, it does well with the heat and requires watering once a week when it does not rain. I have discovered a "custom" mixed fertilizer from our local nursery mixed particularly for St. Augustine grass and a weed spray called "Image" that controls weeds, my neighbors and visitors always comment on our beautiful weed free yard. We use a lawn service so even with them mowing approximately 100 yards a week we never have a weed problem.

Love the show ❤. On the grass topic. The Bermuda is an evasive grass but it can take the heat better than most all the others and with a little work can almost look like a putting green. It can be cut down to about an inch and with a bare minimum of water thrive where others die. The yard will struggle against the Bermuda and eventually lose to it. About the only real way to fight it is to physically hand pull the Bermuda runners back to the root.

I bought in the Villages at 45, my name is the only one on the deed. There is an 80/20 rule. as long as 80% of the owners are 55 or older then 20% can be younger than 55. I know of someone who bought long before I did and was under 55. At the closing they they tried to tell him he couldn't buy the house. He knew the rule and said, "prove to me that less than 80% are younger than 55. He signed his papers a few minutes later. Now I did have to sign a couple of extra forms acknowledging it's a 55+ community. No one under 19 can live in The Villages etc etc. But I had no issues getting my name on the deed.

Vinegar is also good for your washing machine to eliminate the build up from detergents. It is especially good for dark colored fabrics. But overall the white vinegar is a perfect choice and does not make clothes smell. Fabric softeners can build up in the fabrics.

Morning all! Fun show! I get those same holes and I’ve concluded it’s from my shirt rubbing against the counter when I’m cooking, cleaning, doing dishes etc. another reason to “make reservations” for dinner😂😂😂 C’mon Jerry step it up and save Linda’s wardrobe 😉 Keep up the great work- look forward to seeing the videos and your adventures ❤

hey Jerry and Linda! I have some rentals in the Villages. have been renting houses for over 10 years now, and have seen quite a few changes. I have both pet friendly rentals , non pet friendly, rent one house for 12 mo at a time, others for at least a month at a time , an d yet others for just weeks at a time. it's a hot topic in the villages! happy to answer any of your viewer questions, including the pros (and cons) of renting directly from the owner vs going through a property manager or third party booking platform.

We did our research before buying plus we watched your earlier shows plus we had a friend here. We made sure all our research was compatible to out buying. You both always say you have had a good experience and you liked some things and dislike other things but ultimately it is up to the individuals. Thank you for this show I so enjoy it. I have a golfing friend and one day she told me she watches your show which sparked a fun conversation. She even bought the picture you have in your dinning room because she loved it so much.

I think the holes in the T shirts are from working in the kitchen if you are rubbing against the counter top. I used to get holes in them when I was working as a pharmacist before I retired. My good part of the day was reaching across the counter top. It hit right where the holes would show up 🤷‍♀️🤦‍♀️. I don’t spend a lot of time in my kitchen now, we eat out most of the time. I started wearing an bib apron when I do cook.

When we bought last year in the historic section. We loved the mature trees and the little bit bigger yard. We find that people are older here and already have their favorite things to do with their long-time friends. We've had several yard parties where we invited all of the neighbors and have had a great time. We are thinking of selling and maybe moving to a new area. Sacrificing the mature trees so that we can be on the same footing with other people who are new. Not sure that's the answer, but maybe it is..

😂 Linda it's funny that you brought up the holes on your shirts. I have the same thing happening to my shirts, I wear a belt so I thought that could be it and another explanation could be the friction from rubbing my tummy against the sink granite counter when I do dishes. Btw I enjoy watching your show and especially when you take us along on the cart rides throughout the various villages,

Just a note on St Augustine grass. It is NO saint, that is for sure. We live in Chitty Chatty and many here struggle with the grass situation. Do a drive around and you will see for yourself. Some have gone to great expense to totally replace their yards, some of us have taken the bull by the horns and our now doing our own yard work, with the great help of our new friends at Ace Hardware in Wildwood. It has cost us some $$$$ but we are finally feeling a bit better about our yard..

I stopped using laundry sheets in my dryer after I heard the "coating" they put on it causes serious allergies. Wow, probably true, so I stopped using them and my allergies went away. It took several months because almost everything in my home has been washed then dried with these dryer sheets. An 80-year old doctor told me this last year! As far as static is concerned, well, static is mostly caused by over-drying clothes.....!

Hi Jerry and Linda - I have been an avid viewer of yours from day one - I was offered early retirement and was able to move here earlier than expected. I was extremely fortunate to have secured a patio villa in Richmond (took 6 attempts, and I was #1 out of 20 in the lottery for my home). On closing day, I was so excited and couldn’t wait to meet my new neighbors, and potential new friends. Well, here’s the rub. In Richmond, most patio villas were snatched up by investors. On my small block of 6 homes, I am the only owner-resident - all the other homes are either air B&Bs, short term rentals, and one is being used for lifestyle visits. I literally have all new neighbors weekly on my block. This has been very disappointing for me, as a single guy, feeling kind of isolated on my street. I will need to make an effort and try and meet resident-owners on the other blocks here in Richmond - staying positive, but this is not what I envisioned.

Hey Jerry and Linda. I’ve been watching for 3 years. I’ll never move to TV, but still love to watch. Holes in shirt issue. You have always warned people to make their own investigation of living here. You only tell of your experiences, we have had the same experiences as you. We do not regret moving here, made great new friends and involved in activities. My allergies are worse here but bearable. Our first stay here before buying we ran into a man that yelled at us telling me how I was not allowed on a certain street, but, we had a hundred more stop by and help us. I think the ratio nice to not nice is 99/1. We less bugs here than Ohio but we had Scorpions come in our house in Vegas. LOL.

Hi Jerry and Linda - I have the answer to the holes in your shirts. I figured it out a few years ago ‘cause it was driving me crazy! When you wear jeans or any other garment that has a button and a zipper, and your shirt is not tucked in, you lean a bit on your kitchen counter edge when you’re cooking or cleaning at your kitchen sink, the button is right in line with the edge of the countertop and it takes no time at all to wear a hole in your shirt (I’m pretty short…5’). As soon as I became aware of this, I have never gotten another hole in my shirts. I simply role under the edge of my shirt until it’s clear of the countertop. I hope this works for you!

Sadly, this seems to be the case. As a Realtor in The Villages I am hearing from people I have sold a home to that they feel like are not welcome. When my Mom and Dad bought their house in The Villages in 2001, it seemed everyone went out of their way to welcome them. Now it seems like that isn't the case.

We r renting a home in the Hadley neighborhood for a month this summer. I had to call about the “passes”….what they cover, how to get them, who can get one, etc. The lady who answered the phone was very rude and her attitude towards me made me nervous. Then she made fun of me for being rattled and a bit confused. When I hung up with her, I almost cried. We have been so excited about our summer visit, but now I just don’t want to go. Stuck with a rental, because we’ve decided we aren’t moving there. We will make the best of it, but has definitely been a burst balloon moment.

I would call again tomorrow...you may get another person who is more friendly and willing to answer questions. If you get a rude person on the phone, ask for their name, then ask to be transferred to their supervisor. Or ask for the supervisor's email address, and send the supervisor an email detailing the employee's unprofessional attitude. I hope you encounter better treatment going forward and give your rental a chance.

For people considering a move to The Villages, put on your big boy and big girl pants and do a lot of due diligence...as Jerry & Linda recommended, ask your Villages sales rep or the MLS agent you are working with...can I put up my own fence or paint my homes' exterior red, white & blue? Better yet, get the phone # of the Architectural Review Committee and ask ARC what changes you are considering. Don't put your due diligence burden on to Jerry & Linda.

My opinion is that there should be two types of community gardens in The Villages - one for charity's sake such as the usual big one that was (or still is?) present and in use when I was a resident in The Villages. One should be a typical type for the use of the resident gardener.

It’s a bit gross using reclaimed water for edible food. I guess the villages expect you to just have shrubs and grass in the back, not a vegetable garden, because they think all villagers are too old to want to work in the garden. Relative of mine is still working on her vegetable garden garden and she’s around 80.

Regarding the lack of welcoming. My observation is that in the new home neighborhoods where everyone is new there is more welcoming rather than the older established ones where friendships have been established previously. I have not seen the window welcome, put on by Village realtors, lately. One should introduced oneself to the neighbors in either case. Pass out a personal info card and maybe have a driveway party and pass out flyers in your neighborhood.

I think that a lot of people are not only watching your show because you give information about The Villages, but also because of your personalities. You two are such very nice people with good hearts and it shows through your videos! When I saw you for the first time, I just knew you were the kind of people I would like to meet in person and have as Friends. That salty remark by "Jeef" was so rediculous that all you can do is laugh at it! I love your Blooper Break because you two are hilarious. Thank you for th information about leaving the house to a person under the age of 55. Linda's meals taste so good to you Jerry because her meals are made with love! ❤❤ Whoa........People need to think for themselves. They can't blame you for their decisions. You have the best intensions in your heart when you give your opinions or experiences. I'm so sorry that Bob and Betty have had a bad experience moving here and hope that things turn around for them as they join in with some of the many clubs and activities.
