I just bought a 6.5 that sat for 10 years. What I did is tapped into the fuel line disregarded the old lift pump added a cheap 12 volt pump ran fuel line into a 5 gallon can powered up the pump with some jumper wires and a battery pack. Next bled the fuel filter in the housing on the back of the motor once all air was confirmed out crank for 5 seconds repeated bleed process crank another 5 seconds. Then with a open end wrench jumped the glow plug relay held for 10 seconds cranked truck it started. Sometimes the t on the injection had to get cracked to relieve air. With doing this your elimination the oil pressure switch that cuts fuel to the original lift pump which is probably junk,, the junk lift pump itself and heating the glow plugs manually by jumping the relay it worked for me.

Exactly. I would of bypassed the FFM and jumped the glow plugs. He wasn't even getting smoke out the tail pipe so there was nothing going on in the engine.

Id give it one more go, with fresh glow plugs that work, fresh fuel off a electric lift pump to the IP. My 6.5 puts out a white haze of unburned fuel if not pre glowed cold. I dont see any in the video?

Did you ever put another engine in that old pickup? I have gotten three old diesel pickups running okay, but now I have 12 hours into firing up a buddy's just-acquired 6.5 work van (still need to pull the power steering pump to wiggle out the crankshaft sensor - the thing ALMOST clears). And I have to agree with you, a SBC is a lot easier to mess with than anything on a Detroit diesel engine (more labor, more expense, more waiting to order parts).

Did you do all of this for the views or were you actually trying to fix that 6.5? I own a 6.5 and the only issue I had with it was a blown fuse that went to the ignition. Those engines are hard af to kill.

I have a 1993 C3500 pickup with a 6.5. This March marks 20 years since I bought it. They are just a converted 396 Chevy V-8. They are not known for power just economy and longevity. In fact, there is very little you can do to tweak more power out of them compared to other engines.

I’m not trying to be rude buddy, but these are some of the most cringe worthy will it start videos I’ve ever watched. You really need to do a lot more research on diesel engines before you try to resurrect one I could’ve had that thing running within probably two hours.

Tell me all the steps you checked off before you tried to start it I see you have another truck that has a 6.5 did you ever think about switching the lift pump and the PDM off of that and putting it on that truck to see if it would work? Also, did you check the glow plugs? Did you check the glow plug wiring? Did you check the glow plug timer in the dash? Also, did you do a compression check?

@@TylerDuysen for one why is it restricted and not spinning fast enough and why are you resorting to calling somebody a drug addict because they are trying to help somebody become a better mechanic even if the engine was bad, you should be able to get it to pop off on at least one or two cylinders. Any good diesel mechanic knows that.
