Four years ago we had super high water early through September and October. Basically shutting down the river fishing Thousands more salmon who would have been killed or die from being stranded managed to spawn. Resulting in millions of more salmon fry being born. I think people underestimate the number of natural chinook that are produced in the north shore rivers. Plus the fact chinook salmon offspring leave the rivers after only six months in the streams meaning they are affected less by high river temps in the summer and predator loss. The ministry may have to lesson thier stocking numbers to offset the natural recruitment to protect the bait fish population Remember this recruitment is happening on all the lake Ontario streams, Very interesting to see the numbers this year.
