Growing up, we had a red 1963 Dodge Dart convertible that had a push button transmission. Passengers thought that was so strange 🙂. No power steering. All 4 of us girls drove it through high school and my youngest sister took it to U of Texas in the 80s. Dad replaced the original bench front seat with bucket seats which I think was a boneheaded move. One of my younger sisters has it and it still runs! Those things were made to last. A little skimpy on safety features, though.

The car cleaned up nicely. Some radio delete plates are quite valuable to car restorers since most cars came with radios, making them rather scarce. Motorcraft 10W-30 diesel oil is good for vintage cars since it contains zinc which is needed for the non-roller lifters. It's a good idea to cover the alternator with a plastic bag when washing an engine.

My top tip for polishing chrome is to use aluminium/aluminum foil, just wash the chrome down and then rub the foil on with a little water. I love that you call this a “little” car. When I learned to drive in 1967, we had a “little” 8 passenger Olds Vista Cruiser station wagon. We also had an old Rambler station wagon with a push button transmission that my father bought off of a fellow US Navy sailor when we were all living in Morocco. Later I had fun driving it on our ranch in California.

lol, this brings back such a great memory for me! My Dad had a car like this when I was quite young. This was pre- mandatory seat belt laws. One of the shift buttons on our old car would pop right off when you shifted into a higher gear, so it was the kid in front's job to crawl and grope around on the floor to find the button before you needed to shift down again. Good grief, it is a wonder we all survived that era.

You've done a great job on the old lady there, Alex. She looks beautiful! It's hard for me to imagine now, but back when I was sixteen I was able to crawl under my '64 New Yorker to change out the starter. 😁 I am amazed to learn how cheap the parts are for it even today. I wish I had the funds to be able to make an offer on your New Yorker from here in the US, but perhaps there is someone younger and nearer to your driveway who might consider driving around in a beautiful and artsy looking ride for the next several years. 😉
