L-29 was first aircraft in my life when I started flying in Air Force Academy. This machine forgets all student pilot or beginner mistakes in flight. Just incredible bird. Love your enthusiasm, just keep going and your updates will be greatly appreciated. My sub and respect

I'll never forget when I started motorcycling and a mentor said "do you want to ride, or do you want a hobby?".

Very nice airplane! imho I would strip it all down so that you get just the airframe together wings on and everything and go from there. Refit/modify for updated hydraulics, all new wiring harnesses, avionics, etc. Keep what you can though. I would send the engine out for inspection and rebuild. Be prepared to replace it lol i want to fly it when she's ready lol

Should talk to Jared with Gambit aviation at KARR he has a L29 he can instruct you in and also does aerobatics in.

As a rebuilder you should know that L-29 Delfín is a czechoslovak airplane produced by Aero Vodochody in Czechoslovakia. It's predecessor of L-39 Albatros. Almost 2/3 of the production was exported to USSR, that's maybe why there are a lot of them with red star.

I'm not sure if you're directing that at me, but at 2:16 in the video I mention that Aero built these, and at 10:57 I mention that the Czech's sold them to the Warsaw pact countries (Russia would be one of those). There are over 2,000 of them that went to Russia, and they are available for purchase. You just can't get them here. They've been abandoned and the bellies are full of water and motors full of rodent nests. 10 years ago, parts were much easier to come by. I never said that the Russians built L29's. This one and it's sister ship were Russian. N119AW and N120AW.

Delfín 🐬 Is our Czechoslovak, not Russian.

I also own an L29 (in the UK) and I know the details of the guy in the US who can make you canopy glass. Give me a call if you want to chat. I am about to do some deep maitenance on mine over the winter...

Did you finish your kit build project? I don’t recall hearing about it recently. Edit: Was that your kit in the short inset video? It seems like yours should be well past that as it was a year ago you got the final kit, right?

The canopy seals do not go bad and cause the water to get in. They inflate with nitrogen to seal them. The Russians retired them and pushed them outside uncovered and it ruined the aircraft from water intrusion and no intake or exhaust covers on engines. The L-29 must be covered with a waterproof cover if parked outside in rain or snow. Rats and birds got into the engines and their urine ruined the engines from corrosion. the water in the belly ruined the electrical equipment, wiring and hydraulic lines and causes corrosion of the airframe. Not worth fixing! This one has bad canopies. New glass costs 0ver $10,000 just for the plastic. So this is a parts plane. Romania sealed the canopies with caulk when they stored them, so those are ok. Hope someone parts this one out to keep other better L-29s going.

Don't do it. Old planes have complexity that isn't worth it. Rebuild rescue is forever restoring their 'free' airplane, it's just awful engineering, not worth touching. Military jets are also awfully heavy even though this one isn't the worst. It just drags everything down. Matt Guthmiller has flown an old jet a bit but they are so wasteful that just fuel is 1000$ an hour. So even with herculean effort, they are terrible planes. You are much better off making one from scratch in carbon fiber. Maybe even seek funding as a start up. Single piece teardrop shell like a glider/Risen/Piaggio/Celera, short stiff wings and for the first version whatever small less than perfect jet engine like a Williams F107 W19 which only weighs 30kg, might actually be a half decent engine. As an outboard engine. Integrating in fuselage is just a pain and private jets do pretty well without it. Easier to swap as well. First version wouldn't have to be pressurized but a teardrop fuselage is well suited for it. Patching an old bad design is futile.

Sell the jet. Gona cost you a hell if a lot of money.
