from a very old car guy that has done this for many years, drain the oil and fill it up with diesel and let it sit for a few days. it will cut all the grit and grime and some of the burned in crap loose. i use that because when you finish cleaning and get it started the diesel will burn off because it is a fuel, unlike most of the other oil products that most use for a stuck or old engine.

I almost bought one of those years ago until I found a Bug engine in it. If it had a Porsche flat 6 and 5 speed yah but that Beetle engine is about as exciting as a Briggs and Stratton

You can got 200hp out of a bug motor. Even more with a turbo. Subaru swap is a great alternative!!

I just saw one of these for sale the other day, and I cannot stop looking at it. Its sitting on a 911 chassis but doesn't have an engine or transmission sadly. And needs a lot of work. They are sexy cars, I don't care what anyone else says haha.

Did you put oil / ATF / WD40 etc. in the cylinders before you worked them back & forth? It's not good to rub metal on metal that's been sitting for years

I forgot about that Hardcastle and McCormick show that was cool and I love this car I also have wanted a kit car since I was a kid my first cars were Volkswagens and then at 17 I got a hold of a 1970 cutlass with a 455 and immediately sold my Volkswagens following driving that car, haven’t owned one since don’t really like them but they are one of those you can keep them running forever kind of cars and the only way I would own another one is this kind of example it’s even got steering brakes that is so dope

My uncle and I built one of those in 1972. It was light blue. We put an air conditioner in ours. I don't remember the engine being that exposed. Are you missing some parts?

Years ago i fooled myself with a joke used Watercooled VW i bought with a BlownHeadGasket that allowed water and Coolant into the Cylinders and contaminate the Oil in the Pan i did drain that old Oil ,Put a new HeadGasket on the engine and new Oil & Filters and got the car running to find out after 1000 miles the Pisto; Rings were so Corroded and bunked up that they seized the motor and wound up Spinning the MainBearings on the Crank i was however capable of having the Block and Crank saved by a localMachine Shop and a New set Of Pistons Rings Bearings , and of course Gaskets However I did find out that when the engine Seized the sensors got such whacky Signals the Bosch Arlectronic FuelInjection and the Brain ,Computer shorted itself out FYI the dcarea was a 1981 Rabbit and at that time very few people or Shops had the Equipment or Knowledge toCorrect the Computef under the Passenger Seat so the car never really ran correctly under my Ownership and i wound up giving it away
