Just when I think everything is sorted, the Coupe throws up one last problem and fails to start. Unperturbed and with the help of you the viewers, I diagnose and fix the problem.

I remember the days of timing lights and tuning, surprised you hadn't got the timing light on it to set it up spot-on, but it's great to hear it running and off to a show it been quite a journey .

@@garageofdad Might be easier to try and borrow one from an old boy locally its only the old stuff that needs one these days, but the audio has made it and is running 😃

@@du7ch384 My friend says he has one and will borrow at the weekend 👍 Will also check the flywheel timing mark which I completely forgot about as per comment below.

O have a mk1 Golf with identical ignition set up. Essential that you have a timing light with and old school distributor car.

@@batesy536 I bought a new Idle Valve from Germany and turned out, It wasn't working. Thankfully Rob at Nentsport had a working secondhand valve which he put on.

Excellent detective work there. I think you may be right about the trigger wheel slipping round and causing the issue. So probably worth keeping the old hall sender as a spare. With the tappet noise, mine (B2 coupe) improved a lot after putting in 20w-50 Comma classic oil which is recommended for 60s-80s cars. Not sure if it is appropriate for yours being a later car, but worth looking into maybe.

Thanks. I kept the old one just in case but they are still readily available from abroad (like many parts) Still not sure about the oil as I've not run it enough yet. But may be a good call as it will sit for long periods.

@@garageofdad K-Jetronic doesn't like sitting around unused for long periods, especially the fuel distributor and warm up regulator as the tiny orifices and screens in them get gummed up easily. If you can, try to run the car up to temperature at least once every couple of weeks. If that's not possible, the place you got it fixed at might have some advice - possibly running it with fuel injection cleaner in the tank before storing it. Good luck!

What oil are you running? These old 5 pots like good thick oil. I run 10w50 Fuchs in my S2. Should sort your tapping tappets. Also, there should be a static timing mark on the dizzy under the plastic cap. Should line up when at tdc. I use the timing mark on the fly wheel to set. It's more reliable than the one on the crank pulley. Keep em coming.

Was 10W40 Mannol but I'm going tom change it again. Thanks for reminding me about the mark on the flywheel, completely overlooked it! Going to check it all over again. Thanks

I’ve just bought myself a 1989 coupe and I’m having some trouble getting the exhaust manifold off, have you ever had the manifold off? If so how did you do it?

Ah yes I did, rounded off the nuts. I used my IRWIN bolt extractors to grip them and get them off.
