It works for me. When I was in the Army, I dropped my helmet on my big toe and split it. This was over 20 years ago. I used an acrylic overlay to allow the nail to grow back together, and then for years, I tried every kind of topical I could think of. I went to a podiatrist to get internal treatment, and she recommended that I try Vicks first. She said that under my toenails needed to be completely dried, and to put vaporub under and around my toenails. Even with wearing polish, it has worked in just a few weeks, and instead of a completely black toenail, I have one remaining dark spot in the middle. I use it twice daily.

just a note; the Vicks cream (white) won't work because it doesn't have the ingredients normal Vicks has. if you're going to do this, use regular Vicks!

It’s working for me and I had a bad case. The worse toenails were very thickened and brown. I used an electric nail file to file them down, they were too thick for a normal nail file. The worse nail did crumble and looked really dark. Ive have been using Vicks every morning and every night for 5 weeks. The improvement is massive. After two years of hiding my feet ,5 weeks has flown by. This is the only thing I’ve found yet that works- and I’ve tried everything except the oral medication. The side effects are a little concerning. This is a brown, brittle, nail infection, no white spots like you were talking about and the Vicks is definitely working.

Vics vapo rub is working for me. I just rubbed a bit into the base and side of the toe nail. It took weeks to see any result as the nail needs time to grow out all the grot.

@@tonyvalle2310 Normally, once first thing in the morning, after my shower. I rub it well into the nail bed. I only use a tiny, tiny bit, just a small dab on my finger. If I have been for a run later in the day, I'll apply a bit after my shower.

The Mentholatum formula is said to be All Natural ingredients so if natural Camphor is antifungal and synthetic isn't just think of the Antifungal powerhouse the Mentholatum formula is. Plus the doses are a smidge stronger. Tiger Balm only has Camphor and Menthol but some say that is more effective.

My son hit his thumb nail with a hammer at work. This happened over 12 months ago. The nail turned black initially, but it looked greenish as well and it looked as if the nail had become infected as well. The GP recommended a solution which he applied every week, but it has not cleared up the infection entirely. The new nail seems to be growing up to a certain point, about halfways up the nailbed, then it becomes loose again and has to be filed back again to its original point of growth. Should he continue with the treatment? We are thinking that the nail might have to be removed.

I had an older jar of vicks salve and the ingredients reads Camphor 4% Eucalyptus oil 1.2% Menthol 2.6% The new jar I just bought has same ingredients , except Camphor (SYNTHETIC) 4.8% Could this be the reason it's not working for some ? I think I will use the older jar, and what about essential oils?

I use V.Vapo rub, Pure Tea Tree oil and Ciclopirox 8% Solution, which is by Rx only. I use them in tandem or separately every 12 to 18 hours. Each and every day. Once you start any treatment you cannot just give up. To the gal-- i gave after 2 weeks.. you have to work this and treat this for many months not weeks. Minimum of at least 1 to 2 years. I have been fighting T. Nail F. for five years. you cannot give up, if you neglect it [treatment] it will never ever go away. I passed on getting Laser treatments. far too $$$$ for me. If you use Vicks at night put socks on to sleep. Keep your feet dry and change shoes often. Keep nails as short as possible. I could write a book. I have 2 doctors. Peace 2 all. JLo

I do this, and get epsom salts in a bucket of warm water and Dettol and clean your toes with a tooth brush twice a day and soke for 20 minutes. Trim back any loose nail tissue files your nails. Apply surgical wipes after. Your toes will start to look acceptable fairly quickly. Do this for a year at least

50% bleach + 50% water solution. File the top surface of the nail and apply with cotton bud twice daily after shower. Try to also apply to the top tip of the nail so it can also soak in underneath the nail. Obvious results in a few days or weeks depending on severity. It will take time for new nail to grown in but keep applying to nail bed even after nail comes off to ensure full healing. Wash all socks in bleach water solution. Spray inside shoes with disinfectant spray and leave in full sun for a day (tongues out).

I read last night that some nail problems are caused by bacteria and not fungus. Most recommendations are for fungus treatment. I came across a poster that claimed he solved his problem with Neosporin. I started today with the triple antibiotic. I acquired this toenail problem last January. I happened to be on Fluconazole twice this year and used Prescription Clotrimazole too. I tried Tee Tree, Oregano, foot soak vinegar, etc. It hasn't progressed but a little bit to other nails. However, I can tell that it is not going to get better with these treatments. I also read about success with clear Iodine. I will try it in a bit after I used Neosporin for a while. I may even alternate from one day to the next between the two treatments. Can anyone verify success or deny success with either of these two treatments I mentioned here. I wish someone reading this would try one of the Triple Antibiotic products along with me and we could chat about any success over time. You can contact me here on Facebook. I would even be willing to share my email with a serious person who has been dealing with this problem for at least a year too.

Seemed to work for my fingernail infection put some on and waited another couple of hours , then put some more on and an hour later noticed a pool of white liquid on finger nail so I cleaned it off and gave the inflamed area a gentle squeeze and more white fluid came out so I'm calling it good

Perhaps you don't have a fungus. I read that bacteria will act the same way on toenails and fungus meds won't cure that. I'm trying Neosporin starting today as a bacteria fighter. I've had this for a year and tried everything including prescription Fluconazole and Clotrimazole and it won't go away.
