I've just watched this only two days on from your publishing of it.... I'm in Bondi Beach and I also remember the guy with the shop in Paddington.... It was actually further down Oxford Street towards, but on the opposite side to, the Town Hall and near Folkways Records.... I'll clarify more on that later.... His name was something like George Wanneke and he was also a Woollahra Councillor .... However, when you got to the lady making strange jewelry I really took an interest.... I've never met her myself or even seen a photo of her, but I knew who she'd be.... I have a couple of old local friends and I believe that she's the mother of the fellow and when you got to the photo the family resemblance is there.... She now lives in Leura in the Blue Mountains and sells at the local market there.... I've just sent them a message.... I've just discovered your channel yesterday and I've already enjoyed several of your videos... Good Work! Thanks!

Hi David, the shop definitely wasn't that far down, it was right near the top near the Light Brigade Hotel, and on the same side. There's no way that that woman could be the mother of the guy who owned the shop, as he was much older than her. Thanks for your kind feedback :)

Hi @@ObsoleteOddity A couple of crossed wires.... There was a largish second hand furniture shop more or less across the road from the Markets and various second hand book and record shops, but down next to Folkways Records was George Warneke's shop and he was also a Woollahra Alderman.... I have a good memory and I'd remembered both his name and the Councillor bit and just after I wrote my comment I contacted a friend who is a friend of Warren Fahey who started Folkways Records and George was in the shop next door to him.... I have image links here which I'll share in a minute.... The shop was actually rarely open and on occasion if I was passing on the bus on my way back to Bondi and I'd see it open I'd get off the bus early and go back.... Mostly he'd tell you that things weren't for sale, but one occasion I managed to actually buy something.... Separate topic only connected by your reminiscence.... A couple who used to share my local cafe on the Bondi/Tamarama border talked about his mother once and she was the jeweler at the Paddington Market.... You just started talking about her and I remembered the mother and then you scrolled to her photo and there is a family resemblance with her son.... Link for George.... www.google.com/search?q=alderman+george+warnecke&tbm=isch&source=iu&ictx=1&fir=_e5cyCtJ8-N4jM%253A%252CPfz02lJzmlQAAM%252C_&vet=1&usg=AI4_-kS855THVbIDFJKLw9foCEGAb5MBjQ&sa=X&ved=2ahUKEwigpPe4qoLkAhVBfX0KHVzuA6gQ9QEwAHoECAkQBg#imgrc=7AjDAKTViIUCWM:&vet=1 Link for Cindy.... That's amazing! Thanks for sharing the link to the photo!! That's him, lol - incredible to see after all these years. I somehow got confused as to the position of the shop, don't know why I thought it was further up; perhaps there was another similar shop - but that is definitely the bloke. It's like a stroll memory lane. I hope he's having a look down and chuckling. Kudos to you that he actually sold you something. lol - here's what the Getty blog says: *Junk Shop owner Alderman George Warnecke inside and out of his shop in Oxford St **Paddington.George** Warnecke...a real Paddo boy who has become attached to his wares."I get attached to them . . . don't like selling them much," he said.George's shop Is a hoarder's delight. Four floors of junk stacked floor to ceiling, cheek by jowl, with a narrow jungle track of a passageway down the middle, illuminated only by bare light **bulbs. In** fact, part of the reason George keeps his shop going is to maintain the "real" Paddington, not the Paddington taken over by malls, closed streets, trees and people who can afford to buy $150,000 terraces. January 30, 1981.* I'll pin your comment. Surely Cindy Smith can't be his mother, they must have been of a similar age? In fact she looks younger than him in the photo I showed.

I also enjoy vintage shops to dream in...those antique glass Victorian ceiling fixtures (chandeliers) there were 2 or 3 I would of bought them..very elegantly made. I also feel so sad about those young women as nuns..my mother's parents came from eastern europe and she mentioned to me that some of those women were either forced into the convent from their parents if they were becoming a burden or status or did not find a husband or unfortunate. They must of accepted their fate .I'm sure as you said thought about a family life and what it would be like to be loved..so sad. Thankyou again for your interesting perspective on details .Safe travels Oddie and Odette.

Ah Oddie, another feast for the eyes. So much to see!! Love these little tours. There were some nice finds again in this video. Yes, I noticed the clocks. The grandfather style one at the door I got only a glance at but the rest were nice to see. The stately grandfather clocks are my favorites. Quite a few chandelier styled lighting arrays there too. Lovely. Luckily I wasn't there too. You would have never finished the tour, as I like to poke into all the corners and mull over the finds. Always love the layout of the towns you visit, as they have so much character. That is slowly disappearing from my town. When a child I remember cobble bricked streets in parts of my town that still had trolly rails in them from the early history of my town. We still have some beautiful houses of the old stately order that are being preserved, but even they are fading. Ah, but time must pass I guess. Nice that you got a response on your request for info on the shop in Paddington. Great !! Love the pictures and always the blah blah!! Another addition to your list of fine presentations, Oddie. Looking forward to the next.

That shop! Wonderful! I could get in such trouble in there. I could really use some of those ceiling lights. We have some beautiful chandeliers that fit nicely in the large in 1907 house but aren’t quite right for the much smaller 1904 house that I downsized to about 3 1/2 years ago. If you go back in there please tell the lady that the downstairs was wonderful, as was the upstairs. My daughter makes and sells jewelry online. She also does beaded flowers in the 15th century Hungarian tradition. I will be telling her about the lady who makes the eyeball jewelry. She could be out there sometimes but I don’t know if she’ll go for that. Lissa was the first true Goth at the high school she attended where I taught. Good memories. Keep blahing...it’s wonderful! Thank you for sharing.

Not gonna lie: I'd probably buy that house if I could affiord it and was anywhere near Europe. I'd be down to live in most historical buildings, actually. Places that are too new feel empty and strange to me.

You should most definitely buy the alpine lamp. It's such an unique find! I would buy the lovely nun photo...she would be happy to be featured on one of your mugs. I simply adore these outings. Thank you.

I would try to out bid you on the nun- so touching, isn't the portrait? her apparent sorrow, she needs some one to say good morning and good night too, doesn't she? I have a habit of (if they aren't too dear) purchasing spur of moment unknown folk becuz there they are in a box in a musty shop, alone, forgotten, and if there is something that lives on, what does "it" think?

@@MSYNGWIE12 I understand. What is left behind, and beyond, is worthy of our kind attention and respectful intent. She shouldn't be made lonesome anymore.

Oddie! Your videos are NEVER boring, and this one was exceptionally fascinating! You know, whenever I see old photographs, I too always wonder about the subject's life, what they thought, and whether they were happy, sad, feeling hopeless, or helplessly bored, whatever. I particularly loved the clocks; I have a thing about old clocks. lol. Incredible amount of paintings, love seeing those too. Thank you for sharing this wonderful outing. :)

This was lovely Oddie. I love those old European towns. I still desperately want to don a respirator and gloves...and then go through that old gentleman’s hoard. I love your story of slowly hooking the other man into letting you in the door at least. We have one like him just a few blocks from me. Those are great photos from Sydney, you must have been such a charmer, cozying up to all the dealers. I had a period when I was setting taxidermy eyes as gems in jewelry, probably back around that time. Lovely to kick around with you...please give your lovely lady hugs from Richard and I...and save some for yourself. PS: nice job on that poor clock. 🖤🇨🇦

Glad you enjoyed it Tamarra :) The last time we went to visit him was not long after the fire, and he gave us all flashlights to explore. lol (electricity was out) ...which made it even more exciting :) That's interesting that you were doing similar jewellery at that time. Was it trending then? Or did you and that lady somehow manage to scoop the idea from the universal consciousness? Amazing. Many thanks for all the hugs, and gratefully returned :) Hope the weather is being kind! xx

wimple covered by veil - 11 years at a Catholic School imparts some useless trivia. Nice repair and nice video. Paddington markets were awesome. Still have my favourite belt buckel with belt - Mimi belt - aboriginal myths. I remember that shop. Would pass it in the buss or car depending who I went with to shop. Bought a great deco lamp at the markets, my miniatures frame, and I am sure I still have some the clothes I got there. Plus an awesome vintage clothes store in Oxford Street - still have the great 60s dress, 40 jacket. Gads I keep remembering bits of stuff I bought at Paddington. Little miniature landscape painting brooch. Getting spooking on how many of these things I still have to came all the way to Austria with me. I can't help thinking of the old guys shop and a friend told me the same thing about it that you did. I would have liked to get into it. I loved the antique market under cover and in booths I think at Randwick. Went there with an ex for Sunday coffee and a read of the news paper. I have an idea I have stuff from there still. Then Balmain markets was another worthy place to wander. Yep I had the same Paddington experiences

I love your travel thru the market videos! It reminds of my own love of wandering thru the shops and antique stores and swap meets, as they call them here. A lot are commercialized sadly and just aren’t the same anymore. Too many “new” items that mostly aren’t that interesting being manufactured instead of handmade. Always love your animations of photos and pictures even though some don’t turn out quite right, great non the less! You fixed the clock to where you can’t even tell it was broken.......you are amazing! Thank you! ♥️♥️♥️

Facinating 😃 I thought the very same about the nun in the picture. She has a natural beauty and yes! She does look forlorn. Definitely a story to be told from that picture 😕 I did have to chuckle when you explained about your cat and the clock. Cats their gorgeous little terrors who wreak havoc 😼 but, for some reason we can't help forgiving them 😸
