I have not been able to stop thinking about the final line, "It's lonely out here, Socrates". The obvious line of reasoning is linking it to the discussion of Plato and Socrates' Allegory of the Cave, but it's also something so much more for Will specifically. A final goodbye to his pet, a wish they were there but made as a bookend. It's so simple and yet so profound. Fuck, Will's writing is always stupendous. Rest in peace, Will's little buddy, Algernon Socrates Boy.

Sometimes I wonder how people can be so hyper fixated on Miracle Musical when it's really just a slice of the Tally Hall pie. It's a side project.

Because hawaii pt2 is whimsical and mysterious. It turns the goofy band aestetic of tally hall into an actual heart wrenching story, a mystery needing to be solved. At least for me I know I hyperfixated on every line in the album trying to tie a story together.

this may or may not be intentional, but i find it interesting that multiple parts of this song follow the same tune as the main character (e.g. "and i guess we just evolved disgust..." - " so god forbid i'm seen..." and "oh, my friend, you've got a friend in me" - "her majesty says, 'the royal we'..." i wish i had some analysis on, if this is intentional, why that may be, but currently i can't think of anything. still, it's intruiging! edit: also, as at least one other person has pointed out, the ending is like tomcat disposables, which makes sense as both songs are at least somewhat to do with rats!

I never noticed the connection to The Main Character! There is a third song that uses this motif. There is a section near the end of Suburbia Overture (from The Normal Album) with the same motif, shown below: (bold text share the leitmotif) *Well Lot he had his lot in life* *Job his job and I guess you too and die* The Lord looked down said "hey, you're only moral" *Giveth and taketh away* *Till things come out a certain way* *Leave you wondering when they might come back to normal* *Leave you wondering why they can't have just been normal*

This is the first time I've ugly cried in a while, I don’t know if anyone else feels this way but upon learning that this song is based on a horror movie I want to never learn anything more about said move let alone actually watch it. This is kinda dumb but why this song is emotionally affecting to me is that I've always been held back from getting people by my social anxiety, to go watch this songs source material and to see that it's just another piece of media telling me about how my failure to connect with people actually makes me scary and inhuman would really hurt how I feel about this song and I don't what that It's awful out here, Socrates

for what it's worth, willard isn't necessarily even the main villain of the film, nor is he what makes it "scary"- that would be the swarm of maneating rats. plus he only kills capitalists. seems like a stand-up guy to me the BOOK'S version of him though. he's on some red pill shit so avoid that one for sure

I know this is based on a movie but this is just my view and interpretation. Sorry if this gets really personal, it's not every day I get to express my thoughts on something like this. I find this song oddly relatable, it dives into my wants and needs that I didn't even know I wished for, you see, I've been relatively lonely besides my parents and of course, my online friends, but the lack of human intervention and outside experiences makes my imagination spiral far from what's presented to me. I often wonder about animals and the links back to humans, It always ends on a note of me wishing to see through their eyes and be similar to their lifestyle. I see how spacious the imagination could be compared to reality itself and mourn over that fact though looking at animals it's like they're built off of their instincts and what they're supposed to be rather than humans, who, in my opinion, broke from the branches of nature and built off their mind instead of their bodies, though instincts from thousands of years ago still remain it's like every day that goes by it's morphed into a mutated unrecognizable version of itself, so blurred by everyday inventions that it's practically just wasted mind space. I find myself picking at animals around me trying to understand what makes us so different, looking closely at their wings, analyzing the textures of their fur, and making notes of their ears, but no matter how much I pick and pull I never understand what barrier separates us, the overwhelming amount of sympathy for creatures that at one point were brutally eaten raw by our own hands. Yet, we hold them close enough to have a more significant connection than to others of our own species, I'd kill the world if I ever saw a drop of blood coming out of my bird but would stand and stare daggers if one like me was dying by my feet, I'll never understand my thoughts and I'll never understand what's presented in front of me, and I never wish to do. I'm happy for the life given but I have a few suggestions for God. :3
