I think it is poking fun at the way that technical criteria get argued about when debating what goth music is, and what is "goth adjacent" or "popular with goths but not actually goth". Given that some people argue about his music being goth or not. Minor keys are among the characteristics of goth music but some universally agreed goth music canon are not in a minor key. Like all the commonly agreed upon criteria, it gets selectively dropped when such an overwhelming percentage of goths like a sound that it becomes untenable to call it merely "popular with goths but not goth". Then with the Friday line there is the reference to a famous non-goth hit song by the most beloved goth band ever, The Cure, who have made more pop songs than goth songs and have several albums that people argue about being technically goth or just dark but not meeting the strict technical criteria. So I think that neverending internal subculture negotiation over what goth canon is and how to define the requirements, is what the song is really about, but I am not sure exactly what comment he is making on it, except that it is being delivered with humour as usual.

Hey, question. My favorite song from Will Wood since discovering him a few months back is Laplace's Angel -- I've been playing it on loop for hours and hours and I absolutely never get tired of it. The moment I heard this song I noticed the similarities between this and Laplace's Angel (same key, same type of chorus/chord progression type stuff) except Laplace's Angel is loud and chaotic where this song is quiet and sincere. Genuis Lyrics also says that this song references his older songs a bit (it's about how his old singing persona is dead, but you can visit it in those older songs if you like) so do you guys think that the correlation with Laplace's Angel is intentional or just a similarity that happened because of how he tends to write music and I'm reading into it too much? (As a songwriter myself I know what it means to write two songs and unintentionally make them mirror each other in a lot of ways, so if it's the latter that would make sense too.)
