Something I truly miss from WoW was the character class quests as you leveled up in the old days. I was playing a Shaman and I absolutely loved the quests to unlock and learn more totems by gaining the blessings of the spirits and proving my worth to them to have their aid. It made me far more invested in him. He also could solo relatively easily because my totem buffs could power up my weapons, the earth totem skills, so I could use crappier weapons longer because good weapons were hard to come by. Now, I can barely play at all because I have no intention of buying my way, or using the free token, to get to max level and have the end-game stuff. There are literally hundreds of hours that could be a lot of fun playing which are not. I want WoW classic because I want that satisfaction of leveling feeling worth it again.

I just recently found this channel and I've been watching MadSeason's videos for quite a few nights back to back now, and I have to say, I have enjoyed each one so far. Presentation, informative, etc etc. It's a blast to listen to and just watch. That said for this video it's crazy to think about this: I dropped WoW hard early-early on in BFA. I hated everything about it. I felt like it was broken promise upon broken promise and a shell of what they gave in Legion (which I thoroughly liked Legion) when they announced Classic, I took it as a joke "WE HAVE TO GO BACK!" type joke. (At this time I was well into Final Fantasy 14, which I personally think it's the best MMO on the market at this moment, my opinion haha) But as things slowed down for me in FFXIV, I kinda just stopped playing it. I loaded up my Battle.net and saw Classic and said "What the hell..." Subbed for a month and have ONLY played Classic for a few weeks. I picked Warrior (low and behold I was foolish to think I could conquer Classic as a Solo Dual Wield Fury Warrior... It's truly a rough world out there....) But I made more friends in the couple weeks playing Classic then I have in what feels like 4+ years in retail.... The community is amazing. I had people running up to me while I was questing in Darkshore saying "Here! Have this!" and they'd give me a green for no cost at all. It was amazing. (I never really got to play vanilla due to it being out/around when I was younger so it's an experience.) Classic has made me believe that there is passion to be had left with WoW. Honestly, I am not sure if I could go back to Retail. I tried - logged in to my Rogue and promptly logged out and back to my Classic Warrior. haha. I am enjoying this game no matter how much I want to pull my hair out with frustration. XD The meaningful journey. Cheers friends!

In BfA...ALL ITEMS, ALWAYS, have a titanforging chance...and EXPECIALLY after max lvl, everyone is playing the titanforging casino. Now, I could see it being close to heirloom (but not quite as fast), and it would be alright, but there’s still not the kind of character customization that we used to have. I find myself starting new toons all the time in retail, or just switching to classic for a while since I get tired of BfA so quick. Later it drew away from the story due to blizzard responding to the larger population of consumers who didn't care about the story by doing what was most economical at the time and working more on solely expanding and modifying the game itself.

I know what ya mean about the whole hyper balance thing. With classes being so similar and the fantasies being largely in the form of visual effects, I can barely bring myself to maintain more than one character at a time. I eventually settled on a Kul Tiran Druid, and honestly see little reason to play anything else. My first character is one I still play now and then, mostly so that I can still have at least one Horde and one Alliance character at max level, but my heart just isn't in it anymore. It's not just that every class has an answer for everything, has emergency cooldowns for every situation, has a DPS cooldown or three, and so on. They also play roughly the same. Casters are all turrets, melee are all spammy resource builder/spenders, healers all use the same resource the same way, tanks are basically only different in terms of speed which is why DH and Monks are most often considered the funnest... I just miss having legitimate reasons to want to try out another class. I remember as a young Orc Warrior, I saw a Demonology Warlock with his Felguard and I thought to myself "Wow! Warlocks basically get a Warrior for a pet! That's so cool!" I remember finishing up a dungeon group, and the Mage teleported to a city where some quest turn ins were and I thought "Ugh, I'll have to slog it on foot". Along with having reasons to try other classes, there were also reasons to master one. I also remember when I first hit level four and learned Charge, my world changed forever. Someone in trade chat was trying to get a BRD run together, and was advertising that the Warrior in the group crit for 1k with Mortal Strike. Knowing when Battle or Berserker stance would be best, judging whether or not to switch at any given moment, and saving the group from a potential wipe by going into Defensive stance long enough for the other DPS to kill the boss, all made playing a Warrior engaging and rewarding. Dare I say, it was even fun. In defense of the current game, I will say this; at least the raids are fun the first few times.

Regarding the fixing of Azurite gear. I've been unsubbed since just before BoDA was released. But the one thing i know is that the new traits you get in the neck instead of the gear are so busted. They are all role based instead of spec based. so one trait that is bad for one spec in the game can be totally broken. Like "Blood of the Enemy" an 1.5min dps cooldown. Just activating it deal some minor damage but then all those you hit, you'll have 25% increased crit on those targets. AND your crits deal 35% more damage. For 15 seconds..." Imagine a class and spec like Fire Mage or Destro Warlock. Chaos Bolt for instance, Chaos Bolt always crits. So your critchance increases the damage of the spell instead of making it able to crit like normal spells. Stack that with the Blood of the Enemy and you have multiple stacking damage increases(25% more Crit chance which turns into straight up damage, then 35% more crit DAMAGE which increases the damage even futher). Making Chaos Bolt which is already scaling good and is the majority of Destruction's damage, it scales exponentially with this buff and you can just make ludicrous amounts of damage if you play well... BFA is a total shitshow. A bunch of bad decisions, neatly put into a single package.

simon7109 Unfortunately you’re right. But Blizzard was under no real obligation to do everything the players wanted. When my 5 year old wants to eat candy 3 meals a day and exclusively drink soda, I laugh and give her some broccoli and milk. Sometimes the experts do know what is best. Sometimes, “you think you do, but you don’t.”

I'm not in the Classic beta so I can only go off of private server experience but I 100% agree about that one quest in the orc castle in Redridge. I acted as a makeshift healer as a Paladin for our group who I joined to kill gnolls just a few moments before, but we decided to try our luck at that castle. We slowly and carefully made our way into and up the castle and killed the boss with no deaths, but a lot of healing on my part. This was like 2015 or whenever Nost was still relatively new yet I still remember it pretty clearly. On the flipside I can't recall a single memorable moment I've had on retail in YEARS...well I guess there's one memory, but it's more of a painful one. Waiting in line to get that Garn Nighthowl mount that dropped from an elite in Frostridge Mountains during WoD since we all thought the loot table was gonna change in the upcoming patch (it didn't if I recall correctly), I waited for HOURS for that mount.

Wow, the story of how you came to WoW is almost just like mine! I was also hardcore playing SWG (Bloodfin server) before WoW! I also held on to that game while nearly everybody else in the guild slowly dropped out because it was such a bug-filled, beta quality game. I was sole hold-out in my guild, mostly because of the insane time/effort I had put into the "force sensitive" jedi grind (the one where you had to master each of the classes/professions, one by one). WoW came out in November 2004, and I got sucked into it, away from my padawan's jedi trials (to become a knight). After reaching level 60 on 3-4 characters in WoW, I burnt out and briefly came back to SWG intermittently in March 2005 to complete those jedi trials. The system was still draconian with respect to jedi character deaths: you'd get skillboxes removed, which was a significant penalty. The WoW analogy would be something like getting knocked back to level 110, then 100, then 90, then 85, etc. all the way from level 120 in WoW after dying enough times. You had to worry about dying to NPC rancors, and player character bounty hunters who would come hunting for you. At least it wasn't the original death penalty for jedi characters: permadeath. I completed those jedi trials and became a jedi knight, the night before servers shutdown to implement the infamous Combat Upgrade patch (CU - not to be confused with the even worse NGE that came later). I must have been one of the last characters to reach jedi knight in the old system, before the jedi system was revamped. I got to wear the long robe issued only to light/dark jedi knights, for only a few hours (padawans only had the short coat to wear) before servers were shutdown for maintenance. When NGE came out later that year, I stuck around, but the game was irreversibly changed - jedi was now a starting class in this new system (with no silly death penalty), and reportedly, SOE lost a huge majority of subscriptions. But I still stayed on a bit after NGE was released! I think through until late 2005. I was drawn back to WoW, and was there for the Ahn'Qiraj event, and stayed permanently after that. I started doing high end raids (at the time) like AQ40 and the original Naxx. Since vanilla WoW was sucking up all my focus, I didn't hear about the cancellation of SWG. I wasn't there the night the SWG servers were shutdown for good, and can only experience it through various KZbin videos. So that's my own SWG to WoW story.

Coming from someone who started playing WoW in Legion, I'm so excited for classic release. When I hit max level, I want it to feel rewarding. Everything currently feels too easy, everything is mindless clicking, even mythic+. (I'm not a hardcore raider but have cleared heroic in a few raids in the past so I cant speak for those at the top end.) I have said to a bunch of friends, and a lot of people in the guild I'm in, " if blizzard add a couple more ease of use things into the game, we're basically playing a glorified mobile game." I don't think anyone should want that. If you missed an entire patch, too bad, play through it and catch up. It's not a good game if you give everyone everything they need, even to get to end game content. No Challenge, No Fun.

I dig your passion and I feel ya. I played from release until this last expansion. I always loved the community of WoW (back then). You earned a reputation and you'd have people whisper you as soon as you log in if you were good at your role. A good DPS was judged more about CC (for five man's) and aggro management and not for DPS charts. I'm excited to return to the beginning. The journey was rough but we loved it for that. I hope new people enjoy it but they definitely will have a surprise about how much you have to RUN around. Edit: It's still amazing how Blizzard said - you think you want Classic WoW but you don't.
