I recall seeing this film at the Odeon cinema in Tunbridge Wells with a girl (a Dutch au pair) so far out of my league it wasn’t funny. I was a penniless teenage wannabe rock musician and needless to say our relationship lasted about as long as the film. Always loved this song so much as it seemed to sum up my angst the excruciating hopelessness of my doomed infatuation with this blonde beauty. Thanks so much for the enduring memories Wes.

@@lexicrane Hello Wesley, probably1985. Sadly the museum closed down over 20 years ago and as for the donation box I suspect it would see us all out it was that well made. Having had the pleasure of lugging it away many a night filled with the copper change from shop sales. Your dad was a character and I especially fondly recall when something annoyed Bob he would rumble away in his made- in- Scotland accent. He was a skilled man and that clearly runs in the family, it was clear he was quite rightly proud of your achievements. I have been putting together a playlist of music with lots of saxophone based tracks when I thought of you. Best wishes mate.

This has to be by far the most monumental sax music score of the 80’s , the technical arrangement and phrases that make up this piece excel far beyond any other pop sax solo that I can remember with the exception of the iconic sax soundtrack One step beyond by Madness. Absolutely blinding skills from Mr Mcgoogan.

Such a heart rending retort . We listened to this along with La Folie by The Stranglers among others , Phil Collins Face Value alas on sturdy cassette as we chugged our way towards The Falklands Conflict 1982 . Hi Wesley this is my favourite sax solo of all time. I play alto and try my best to emulate your playing. There is one thing that I am curious about, it’s all to do with developing a lush tone. I was taught to play the clarinet with my bottom lip rolled back over my bottom teeth and this is also how I play the saxophone. I think my tone is big and nice to my ears and the reed is free to vibrate because I minimise the pressure to allow this to happen. However these days it is generally accepted that pushing the bottom lip out away from being rolled over the bottom teeth gives the best tone improvement and should be the desired method to follow. So the question is really what was your bottom lip position to achieve such a great tone on this recording. Many thanks David
@lexicrane4 жыл бұрын
I have tried both ways over the years and I continued to use the clarinet type embouchure with bottom lip over the teeth. A lot of old tenor players from 1940's used lip out. See Paul Desmond lip in Brubeck's Take Five. Best of luck.
@davidmenary69094 жыл бұрын
@@lexicrane Thank you for this information. I am happier to do the same as I do not feel as secure with lip out for the altissimo notes. Others would have you believe a great tone is not possible this way but your solo on Will You tells it all. Kind regards David
