Amateur Accordion Restoration Part I - Keys

I found this Hohner Verdi III Accordion in unplayable state, this project series documents my amateur restoration in every detail from tuning and reed servicing to setting rhinestones.
In this video I clean and repair the cracks in the keyboard section, repaint, clean and even machine a decorative brass axle rod.

Great to watch, especially the brazing and lamination repairs etc. It was cathartic and inspiring to get an inside glimpse of another vintage classic Hohner being brought back to playability.

I am having the same dificulty to remove the axle of the keys. The point of the axle is short, and does not allow me to put in a bench vise. Not sure what to do. :(

Thanks, yeah I suppose it would be okay to spray the keys if the surface is well prepared and sealed, it would probably be much more durable just to polish up the original material though.
