Ensidia being stripped of WF for the bombs is still such a load of crap. They didn't do it intentionally, they even came out and explained it afterwards. The Saronite Bombs were a part of everyone's rotation who was an engineer at the time and they even stated they were pretty sure the platform wasn't supposed to be rebuilding itself, but they didn't know why. Given how buggy the rest of the raids in WotLK were at launch and that this well before every ability and mechanic encounter was spelled out in the Dungeon Journal, it was really bad faith on Blizzard's part to punish them for this "exploit". If you release bugged and broken encounters, you should expect bugged and broken kills. End of story.

Very fun video! Really brings back the memories! One minor thing though - @11:10 you say that Black Temple was the first time there was a PTR for raiding. That's not exactly true... I remember the Patch 1.11 PTR (Naxx 40) coming out and you were encouraged to try the new raid. That PTR was the first time you were able to get premade characters (not just your own character copied over), fully equippped with AQ40 gear, to allow people to test Naxx out. I wish I still had my screenshots from those days, but I do also recall a Naxx attunement NPC (it might have been Captain Placeholder) that let you skip the attunement quests. But you're right that BT was the first PTR where there were large scale efforts to learn the raid before release.

I loved raiding so much in wrath. The idea behind raiding is the most difficult content in the game after you get pre raid gear from dungeons or maybe quests I didn’t get to raid in TBC because the MMO part of the game was doing BT and sunwell. I was stuck doing quests alone with no social experience Once I played in wrath I got into dungeons and met so many people while I was leveling I had an extreme social experience. It helped me get to the end of the game quickly as well where the mmo player base was. I then did the ICC heroics they were somewhat difficult but it made it easier when the group talked it out to learn the fight. My guild told me once I get the pre raid gear I could do ICC 10 man normal. I got raid gear and also did 25 man normal with pugs, later defeated the live king and did a few bosses on heroic. I was a really crappy dps ret pally btw I was in at least full T9 and I at most did 3k dps. My guild helped my get to 6k dps. I don’t think I would of had this amazing social experience if it wasn’t for the LFD queue system. Sadly BOA items and LFR pushed the game into the ground.

Playing Vanilla, TBC and WotLK in vanilla days, and replaying them in well scripted server again was all I needed. Think TBC was still my favorite of all. The Raids theme contrasts(Karazhan still one of my favorite of all time), the raw and horrible class balancing plus a slightly refined (whatever they could have squeezed out and did nothing more) was just there for you to struggle, rack your brain to make things work and pray to the RNG to be on your side whilst minimizing human errors. Trading tokens for gear because you had bad roll streak vs your guildmates didn't stump you for weeks. Best part, no loot council anymore, was A+. The zones were different sights to behold(I remember I wowed when I first entered Nagrand) and the quests were just more lively and fun with your friends. Arena was new and PvP was starting to be more fun because you make friends with people who pvp with you all the time in arena so the synergy make things more of a blast. If I were to choose any of them to play for a third time, it would have to be TBC.

Was a little sad not to have my guild mentioned during the MC stuff since we had 1st Golemagg and Domo, but at least we got a shout out during the C'Thun talk. Afterlife is/was such a great guild to be apart of. Thott, the guild leader, was well known in the EQ days for his write ups on boss strategies and the like. As you might have guessed from his name... he was the creator of Thottbot and a fun side note, he also is responsible for the creation for DKP. Though DKP got twisted and butchered a ton as different guilds adopted it over time and made their own changes.

This takes me back to my newby self spending WAAAY too much dkp trying to complete my 8 piece T1 priest set instead of focusing on the newly released BWL T2 I later learnt that the other priests in guild new i was a bit of a completionist and intentional drove up the bids on the T1 to empty my reserves. Its a good system when everyones on a level playing field in terms of knowledge and not actively trying to manipulate the system but not long after (when one of the priests decided to share with me screenshots of the collusion) I left that guild and went on to join a guild that used LC and to this day I believe its the best system when its done with transparency and good officers PPS my og toon still has that complete T1 in the bank could never bring myself to de it

Something I loved about the old ones where the trial by fire, and you wounded up with guilds finding their own unique way with dealing with the problems. There weren’t any mods that would explain anything to you or hint, nor nothing. Purely organic community drivin’ .. my Raidleader would contact others, do analysis and make an hour long speech about each single boss. It’s the community that drives me in a massively multiplayer online role playing game.

This video clarely shows how the game has changed. I miss so much the days when a group of friends / good players could band together, have to figure out tactics by themselves and compete with other guilds for glory. Now it's all about practicing on the PTR, knowing all the mechanics beforehand, e-sports, big organizations, streaming... the whole shebang. Raiding has become less of a game and more of a spectacle, while losing most of it's magic and fun in the process.
@Label072 жыл бұрын
People expect you to know exactly how everything works prior to ever fighting a boss. Applies to most games. Scares off a lot of people that could turn out to be assets because of the toxic "this isn't a prog run" people.

@@Xcitng1988 Duh.. Of course you can choose to do whatever you want to do. I can pick a regular guild and raid like I always did. That's not the point of my comment. Spine was where 3 different guilds that I raided heroic DS with got stuck on. I ran blood dk, holy pally and was a fill for a friends guild on my destro lock. The first boss was so much fun as destro with that split and being able to chaos bolt both of them the entire fight. Came in undergeared yet keeping up with the heroic geared group because of this one neat trick. I also forced the zon'ozz heroic achievement on the group after someone accidentally added an unintended bounce. I knew I had every healing cooldown available, boss was deep into execute range and holy pally was so strong on that boss. I simply couldn't pass it up. Man I really enjoyed that tier. Not sure if it's because of the raid or just because it was the peak of my raiding career. I also farmed normal on a priest that I desperately wanted to try healing heroic on but my guild wouldn't let me. They wanted EZ mode as much as the group I regularly did normal with that refused to do any bosses at all on heroic difficulty.

So WoD almost had only two raid tiers - big ooof. BRF was the most recent raid I did before quitting retail raiding - it was fun, but the rest of the game sucked the joy out of the game. And guild drama didn't help - I had no reason to carry on.

I enjoy this video it’s awesome, great work as always. I care about this but nobody I played with or trade chat ever talked about or cared about world first raiding. Maybe my old server Garosh was the reason or smaller other servers I played. Not until Cataclysm. That was when it was known about on a wider scale. People have tried arguing with me otherwise but the average player doesn’t care about world first races. Most players care about their own experiences and if something if fun. Something Blizzard slowly started to struggle with after Wrath (yes even Legion had dumb systems).
