Have you ever seen or had this water pouring into a boat? This 82 year old man was pretty calm he was traveling with his wife! A friend of ours needed work so we referred this job to him since we were pretty booked when it happened!
@SkypowerwithKarl7 ай бұрын
Yeah, a friend was out at the club island when his high water alarm went off. He called me in a panic because his bilge pump wasn’t keeping up. I was about 20 minutes away and told him to stay put. I got there and the water was almost up to the spark plugs. I closed the raw water intakes and pulled the hoses off, started the engine and ran them at high idle. The water came down to the point where I could see that the port dripless was a freaking flood. I keep a flood response kit in my boat that has a large strip of inner tube that I used to wrap around the shaft lock. I used a pipe wrench on the shaft to mobilize the shaft from windmilling till he got it hauled out. Put the hoses back on and opened the valves but pulled the shift cable pin on the port in case he forgot not to use it. He gave me the best steak dinner ever!

@@SkypowerwithKarlsounds like you saved the day! Matt recently saved a customer & his boat while the boat was taking on water. First Matt made him call to get rescued then had the guy call him back once TowBoat was notified. He then talked the guy thru all the steps to slow the water down. Speaking very calmly.

@WillFixThat10 ай бұрын
A good teacher definitely helps and it’s also the experience! All those certificates are good but it’s not real world experience and that is what you need!
@johnnyb86293 ай бұрын
well, what is typically done in air to air systems is we use the units compressor to evacuate the gauge manifold. This is done by closing the high side valve on the hose and removing it and then opening the valves on the gauge manifold while the compressor is running so it pulled the gauges down to evaporator pressure and that is negligible enough to discharge into atmosphere. Im not familiar with marine ac units but they look like water cooled condenser units we see in high rise apartments or water source heat pumps. All refrigerants are bad for the atmosphere, 400 series blends are all greenhouse gases even if they are not ozone depleting.
@WillFixThat2 ай бұрын
They use salt water to cool the condenser coil. It’s really problematic as u can imagine. Lots of marine growth that need cleaned out regularly and well saltwater and metal. What more do I need to say. Thanks for watching.

At some point would you please show what to do in different case scenarios when you have a shift seal issue or other running gear that could sink your boat? How do you stop and why do you stop shaft from spinning when towing, should you do both if you have two shafts, and how do stop them without ruining things? Love all the videos, great stuff always, especially technical stuff!

We had a diver use rope to tie the prop off. We don’t want the prop and shafts windmilling, because it can cause further damage to the seal, and make the leak worse.

In our biz if you have an emergency call tow boat or the fire department if we didn’t work on your boat! If it’s our customer then Matt & I go right away … which has happened a few times! Full disclosure Not due to any of our work - a customers boat caught fire & last year the 72 that started sinking! Matt was on vacation for the sinking so I met the client on my own and called in 2 guys to help me. In an emergency we just respond with integrity until all the dust settles to see what really caused the mishap! That’s the best we can do!

Based on fluid dynamics taking into account the displacement of the boat figuring half full fuel tamks and using an average barometric pressure of 30.1 as well as considering the water temperature and salinity my completely amature guess is 6.3 GPM.

Sometimes in the boat repair business you just have to call time out. You have to preserve your health first....mental and physical. I could work 24/7 if I hadn't figured out how to say no a long time ago. Customers that can't understand that can just go worry somebody else. They are the same ones that want to whine about your bill usually anyway. There is not enough qualified people in this business and it's just the way it is. So many of those "emergencies" were issues you identified at a previous service interval but the customer chose to ignore it and fate finally caught up with them. I couldn't let the man's boat sink either. You just get a feel for what legitimately deserves your time after while.
