Rumi was a devout Muslim and this is what he was talking about in his poetry. The word Islam means something like willful submission (to God) and comes from the root word salam meaning peace The oneness of God - or tawhid - is the central tenet of Islam Hanafi is a school of thought in Islamic law (Shariah/fiqh) and Sufism is the mystical dimension of Islam For Muslims, the key to happiness in this life and the next is to intentionally surrender to the will of God.
