Thank you for posting this interview with one of my heroes William Gaines - Mad Magazine was liberating, it freed your mind, it encouraged you to think outside of the box, it inspired many - when our son turned 9 years old I introduced him to Mad Magazine almost like a right of passage that was important in his development - I was at a Heisman Trophy Award Dinner, a back tie affair - I brought along my camera and a copy of Mad hoping to get a photo of my brother with a celebrity - and I did - I then sent the photo to Mad Magazine and it was chosen for CELEBRITY SNAPS - one day I was at a bookstore with my wife and son, I was off in another area browsing when I heard my son yelling "Dad, Dad!!!" - he came running towards me holding the latest edition of Mad saying "look, look" and there was my brother standing next to Rebecca Lobo WNBA superstar, she towering over my brother! He was an accountant and proudly displayed that photo and issue in his office for his clients to see. Mad Magazine - brought families together! RIP Elliot and William Gaines.

Thank you for this wonderful interview. I loved Mad when I was younger, and now that I am an adult, I appreciate the art and the writing so much more.

His biography was awesome - a great Management style - pull together all the best talent you can, provide an environment they can thrive, and step back and DON'T INTERFERE!!!! Wow, what a concept - it worked well for him because he didn't have a massive, selfish ego and wasn't threatened by the talented writers he hired...Love MAD to this day, it's not the way it was when he lived because of the forces of Political Correctness and "Woke" theories that have tempered the true satire - lifetime subscriber here :-)

Mad magazine is a huge part of my childhood. I still love the cornballness of it. It would never fly politically, racially today. But I miss the old days. (No disrespect to anyone) Im now buying the old magazines online, I have a huge stack of them. I still read them, and treasure them 👍🏼

I’m glad Bob also covered the EC Comics here, William Gaines was one of the greats and it’s really wonderful to see him opening up here.

Long before SNL & late night (lame) talk shows there was MAD. I couldn't wait for each issue to hit the stands.

sigh, last issue of Mad Magazine was April of 2018. The senate footage was wonderful, and going into EC comics was great. But yeah, being cheap is interesting, makes me wonder if he had a hard time trying to get the printers to print Magenta for skin tones? Fun interview.

Bill always printed the magazine the cheapest way possible.

Remember happy days?Joanie's first date with Fonzie's nephew Spike. When Marianne has the "talk " with Joanie, on her bedroom wall is a poster of Alfred E. Just thought I'd mention it.
