+Nonthing2Loose011 I was going to say the same thing to that guy. It's funny how people see somone on TV and thinks they stay that way until they die or they are really like that in real life.

he was a young teen, of course. Had he had his brothers confidence and not injured his knee he probably would have had a higher chance of making it to the show(nba).

his sons went to my school in River Forest, Illinonis, His younger son Jalen could touch the rim at 5'7 or 8, and his older son William gates Jr. helped us go the state championship for our basketball team

Wrong black does matter, because life for us is different compared to Whites no matter what anyone says, especially growing up in these inner cites. There's all sorts of trappings you have to be concerned about along with the street thugs, and the cops who are supposed to be community protectors when instead they will kill a black person just has fast as these street hoods, and sometimes for no reason at all.

I just finished watching Hoop Dreams with William Gates and Arthur McGee and I cried with them, I celebrated with them and I laughed with them as if it were taking place in the year of 2013. The players have changed but the game remains the same. Education is, was and will always be the gateway out of the getto. The getto is still killing our youth. I believe that everyone has a story....it was nice to follow theirs.

It's awesome that the guy was a good basketball player, but even MORE awesome that he finished college and is a good daddy to his kids. That makes him a bigger hero than a lot of pro athletes to me.

I'll tell you one thing, For whatever the reason, (maybe it was youth, or something else) William Gates and Arthur Agee may not have made it to the NBA, but both these guys eventually developed a hell of a good head on their shoulders. Both are level headed and knowledgeable about life and the game.

his brother curtis gates was a beast back in 1979, he was also dunking as an 8th grader at that point. Look up his articles from colby community college where they interview him. player of the decade 24.5 ppg, 9.2 rpg 3 spg but it does not mention his assists, which I believe he probably did not average that many cause his favorite move was coming down the middle and dunking over everyone...the guy was more explosive than russell westbrook and was barely 6 foot....

TRUTH BE TOLD; When William Gates say educated, he's not just talking about a college degree. In fact, book smart doesn't automatically translate to common sense. A person needs to educate themselves about all aspects of their career. This means that you should thoroughly familiarize yourself with aspects of your career in which you are not directly involved with. This is important so that no one can ever "pull the wool over your eyes", or tell you something that's not true.

In my opinion both suffered from the inner city. Arthur was under educated and really only cared about basketball. William cared a little about school, a lot about basketball and also had a family to raise. Both need a strong father figure to guide them through highschool and life. William could have been pro or over seas player if not for injury. Did you see the offers he had IU, Mich.....

I hope he can give his son positive vibes, no jealousy, support, and clap all his efforts. Just unfortunate his brother couldn't, even though he made out he was. I'm certain his brother in law was a better influence. Good docu. But, too much pressure from the coaches, not sure they had the kids welfare at heart, I understand it's big biz, but emphasis on development, too many..invested interests.

Look at the difference...William Gates went to Marquette and has become a successful adult. Arthur Agee went to some shoddy community college in Southern Missouri and still doesn't have a job. That's a difference that an education makes, and so many kids don't even get a chance...
