So that there is no confusion: McKinley's final speech was Sep, 5, 1901 (as the caption in the video reads during the footage). He was assassinated the following day, Sep. 6, while greeting well-wishers at the Temple of Music.

Interesting, McKinley is a part of the same Scottish clan as me. (So essentially a really large extended family.

my great x4 uncle was Leon, the assasinator. I obviously don't agree with his actions, I just wanted to learn more about the assasination.

The Anarchist threat and its "Propaganda of the Deed" was not confined to the US, but assassinations and bombings of prominent leaders were a world-wide phenomenon in these years. The McKinley assassination was just one of many, which began in earnest with the killing of Tsar Alexander II in 1881. While the US public saw the death of Lincoln as an unfortunate part of the Civil War, and the Garfield assassination as a strange one-off exploit by a crazy person, this one woke up America to the fact that Presidents were targets, and needed dedicated, professional protection. Also, you could make your students aware of the differences between the anarchist movements of the past, which were incredibly varied, and the modern sense of anarchist, but I understand that this would take a lot of time. Czolgosz was a lone wolf, an admirer of Emma Goldman, who was implicated in the attempted assassination of industrialist Henry Clay Frick.

Love what you're doing...amazing bro...I hate to be the guy to correct cha... But Czolgosz was pronounced "Chol Gosh"... you're doing the Lord's work by teaching the kids history...mad props yo! :-)

Funny story. I showed a clip about this for years in class from a documentary, and the professor in the documentary refers to him the way I pronounced it in the video. I assumed he knew what he was saying, being featured on a widely released video, which is why I always went with that pronunciation. I have since heard others say it far more in the pronunciation you describe.

In 1896 Garrett Hobart was McKinley's VP. Teddy Roosevelt wanted to be the 1900 VP candidate. Hobart refused to step aside then died in November 1899, age 55. TR and McKinley were elected and inaugurated March, 1901. McKinley was assassinated September, 1901 and TR became president. McKinley's campaign manager, Senator Mark Hanna, wanted to challenge TR in GOP presidential primaries in 1904. Hanna died February, 1904. TR wins reelection in November, 1904.

William McKinley: I was assassinated, but I wasn't Lincoln and there wasn't anything for conspiracy theorists to latch on so people forgot Theodore Roosevelt: I thought it was because I overshadowed you in every way William McKinley: Screw you Teddy, that's why my ghost told that guy to shoot you Theodore Roosevelt: *you what?!*

Czolgosz suffered a horrible execution via electric chair. One of the executioners was heard to exclaim, "Give him another poke," after the initial surges of electricity failed to stop his heart. He was literally cooked alive by the time he died.

Actually it was called the Pan-American Exposition and our Historical Museaum is the only building still left from the original expo as all the other buildings were temporary.

You say sweat rag, but I've heard it was medical bandages and the shorter actually shot him with a partially crippled hand, and was motivated due to government safety regulations issues at hand, as it was a machine accident at a factory that gave it to him.

Anarchy isn't exactly "no government, at all". I'd say a better definition would be that government is set up as a horizontal hierarchy, as opposed to our current vertical hierarchy. The no government thing is more of a stereotype (one which I also believed until I looked into it, so, no fault on the presenter) Great channel!

How come Leon doesn't get a middle name?
@A.Marq.
@A.Marq. Ай бұрын
He went by Leon F. Czolgosz. According to Leon's father, the "F" did not stand for anything and that it was there because he "liked the extra initial". So the theme of a middle named assassin still keeps up lol although this one is a strange one.. "F"

Open borders, huge giveaways to corrupt govts, crazy inflation and prices, loss of our respect from all world leaders, buying foreign oil while shutting down our production, shameful dealings for family members, more concern for the earth than man…. Failing faith in our creator…. What day has been worse than when the bumbler supreme took office? Maybe a couple, but I Can’t think of too many others myself…
